Allen/Shanahan, Do we blindly follow?

I have to say , just like everyone else, the transition of the hierarchy in the Redskins front office and Coaching staff has been euphoric! We have been clamoring for such changes and so far there is nothing to complain about what so ever. I even wanted a new HD board and were finally getting that! Anyways I have a question for all of you....If we draft Bradford or go after a big name FA will you have the "here we go again" mentality? I personally will not. I really dont want Sam Bradford this year, nothing against him, but as a lot of us believe O-Line or even Safety. Qb seems to be the least of the worries. But I believe with Shanahan and Allen if they go Bradford it is okay with me. The fact that there will not be Snyderrato running the show with a wimpy coach is a huuge relief. Shanahan ,from everything I have heard, studied almost every offense and defense in the league last year and prepared himself 100% to come back this year and also not to make the same mistakes he made in Denver with his defense. If he wants Bradford maybe some high priced FA that is okay with me...so what do you guys think?

I put definitely.. only because I definitely trust every coach who comes in here (we've had a couple).. not saying they worked out but I trusted them just cause they were here

They're clearly better than what was there before, so I'm a definitely (till they convince me otherwise!)

Following is only blind when there aren't good reasons to suspect that those leading will do the right thing. We have men in these roles that I believe can be trusted. So I do trust them to make the right call, and my "following" them isn't blind, either.

I did not get the chance to vote but I am taking a wait and see attitude. We have been through so much, had so many promises made, have thrilled at FA signings that turned out to be a bust that it is hard to accept that everything is OK now. We, the fans, have heard that every year for the last 10 and look where we are. I am still a die hard Redskins fan but I am now in the "show me" mode.

I'm on board. I don't understand how people could blindly follow Zorn yet have issues following Shanny.

I'm on board too. Zorn was an "all in" bet... and we went home penniless. Shanahan and Allen are a 3 Jacks kind of bet. Really solid, not "the nuts", but I'm having trouble keeping my poker face (to totally belabor the texas hold 'em analogy). Guess what I've been doing a lot of lately?

They've got a pedigree of success that is current (not Gibbs) and proven (not Spurrier or Zorn...more like Schottenheimer). I'm excited.

I'm encouraged by having Shanahan and Allen running things and I'm cautiously optimistic that Snyder will let them do their thing - they need to show progress but that should not be too hard considering how badly this franchise has been managed

I'm hopefull that they will make some progress soon but I also think it will be at least 2 seasons before we are looking at possibly contending for the playoffs again and seeing a consistently competitive product on the field

The poll idea is fine, but what a stupid way to phrase it. Am I optimistic? Sure. Do I give them lots of latitude to turn around a sink hole situation? You betcha. Do I "blindly follow?" Do I trust 100%? Um...no. You have to ignore the question to say yes no matter how optimistic you are.

I think that Shanahan is an excellent coach in many areas but he has not distinguished himself in regard to finding and recognizing talent. That Danny picked Allen is suspicious. Allen's more an executive type than a nuts and bolt football man, so I can't help thinking he's a straw man for Danny. I'd like to be wrong about both in regard to negative, so I've adopted a "wait and see" attitude. I think Shanahan will take Bradford at #4, which I think is wrong (I want Okung), so much of what I think is dependent on how well Bradford plays. I also think it's wrong to attempt the 3-4 defensive switch at a time when we don't have the personnel for it, which will force us to shift resources to the defensive side, which is bound to effect the attempted rebuilding of the offense.
Excuse me for dark thoughts, but I think that we are again putting the rebuilding of the offensive line on hold. I also think we will ignore the need to replace Moss. In short, I'm afraid we might be headed for another offensive debacle. If that happens, of course, people without a clue will again blame Campbell.

totally agree. The title of this and the poll did not match up. I definitely trust them, but will not follow them blindly

I have never seen this board blindly follow anybody!

When Joe Gibbs snatched the players together and got them to the playoffs, some people complained. When he did it after Sean Taylor was killed and Jason Campbell was hurt, people still complained.

If we had had this board after SB 17, I expect some would have complained that the Redskins let the Dolphins hang close -- on the scoreboard -- for most of the game.

As Oxon Hill Dave once put it, people don't understand what a lousy team we had most years after Sammy Baugh retired and before George Allen took over.

Shanahan and young Allen look like an improvement over Cerrato and Zorn.

It's sort of shocking how professional they sound in a press conference.

Shocking in that we should expect professionalism, and instead, we got used to the unprofessional tag-team of Zorn and Cerrato...

Just happy. Been burned before by the Danny undermining the efforts of some good (and some not so good) men beneath him.

So, just happy and hopeful but ... the proof is on the record. Anythig else is good wishes and/or speculation.

Gladys Knight and the Pips would have been an improvement over those guys.

It's gonna come down to the draft. Everything does in the NFL. They catch a break because they can cut some people and restructure some contracts without the cap, but as long as a cap comes back at some point, free agency won't win us anything unfortunately. If they take Bradford and he can't throw because he's had two throwing arm injuries in the last year, that would cause me to stop following.

That's going to be a situation like Detroit and Mike Williams or Denver and Maurice Clarett. McGahee kinda came back from his injury but not to a first round pick level. Even Minnesota taking Peterson was extremely stupid. They had Chester Taylor and Peterson was as injury prone as anyone I've ever seen. They got extremely lucky up to this point on that one.

Basically, wasting draft picks the same way the previous regime did will cause me to stop following. Not that the last regime was that bad at drafting (at lease before round 4, which any idiot could probably do anyway) They did avoid Mike Williams (the receiver), Kellen Winslow, etc. But they just gave away too many picks to overcome their lack of prowess with late selections.

And before this turns into a Carlos Rogers discussion, while he did look bad at times last year, he was the second least targeted CB in the league behind Asomugha. Keep that in mind. Statistically we had a good secondary last year. The league has just gotten to a point where its hard to have a secondary look great. Except the Jets. And I blame Blache for a lot of it anyway, you didn't see that kind of bush play when Williams was here.

I am not sold on the fact that Danny is still not running the show -- regardless of what has been said.

As long as Danny has any part of the decision making process, I am not blindly following.

If it can be shown that Shanny and Allen are behind the decisions, with no input from Danny, then we may have something. But for me to come to that conclusion, it is a wait and see.
