After being the first to announce that Jim Fassel would be the Redskins' new head coach in 2008, the Washington Post was making sure they didn't prematurely announce anything this go-round.

So, when the Denver Post made the announcement, including the specifics of the deal, the Washington Post reported (through the Redskins' Insider on Washingtonpost.com) that those reports "may be premature" as they were unable to verify it through their sources.

So later in the evening, when ESPN and ComcastSportsNet began to report the hiring of Shanahan and mentioned that a photo had been taken and that Shanahan, Allen and Snyder were heading out for a celebratory dinner, the Washington Post amended their report saying now that "multiple sources" were reporting that Shanahan had been hired, but still stuck to their guns saying the reports may be inaccurate as they had not been able to verify anything through their sources.

It wasn't until late in the evening, after everyone else had reported the hiring, and local news channels had interviewed Shanahan while out at dinner, that the Washington Post finally released the headline that Shanahan appeared to be the next head coach of the Redskins.

You'd think WASHINGTON post since they are in WASHINGTON would of had this story right after the Denver paper did. Good grief WP, nice job on that one.
