Assistants - future will be determined by the next head coach
Going to be aggressive in finding a new head coach. Looking for a winner that's passionate about the Redskins and football.
No timeline for finding a new HC
Last place is not Redskins football
Today they are starting to build a foundation
Looking for a HC that can be a leader
Players are hungry and unsatisfied
Have to change the way that we've been doing business
Allen and Zorn talked in Zorn's office when they returned from San Diego
Allen on offensive line: "I think with the team at 4-12 right now, you really can't be that specific."
Continues to stress that it is important to find a HC that can lead the players
Zorn wasnt as worried about his future as he was the San Diego game
Zorn was surprised and dissappointed when told but professional
Doesnt think that JC has played his best football yet
Going to make sure that status quo is gone
Focus is on finding a winning HC
We're 4-12 as an organization. Everybody's 4-12. ... I think we can do better. I think these players can do better.
I think that these players can do better
It's about teamwork and talent. That creates success.
Thinks this team has some talent and leaders that are willing to step up into new roles.

Sounds like Shanahan.

I like the fact that he was very direct and precise in his responses. It seems like he's ready to drop the hammer on guys who have personal agenda's only. I like the fact that he's going try to re-establish the pride that this organization.
One thing that stood out is that he kept saying the Dan Snyder has entrusted them in making the decisions on this team. That's not an exact quote but basically what he said.

Well done Bruce so refreshing to hear a "real" GM speak...way to get this thing on the right track...even if you have already hired Shanahan this is the way to do it!

You know the thing I love most about Bruce Allen is that his name isn't Vinny Cerrato. Excellent job, sir.
btw Did anybody read the comments from Rock Cartwright?
In his eight seasons in Washington, Cartwright has gone through three coaches already. The level of discipline, he said, was different under Joe Gibbs than it was under Zorn. He wouldn't name any names, but Cartwright said to the chagrin of many in the locker room, some players received preferential treatment around Redskins Park.
"Just some things that some guys got away with that some other guys - we have 'rules guys' and we have 'guideline guys,'" Cartwright said. "Rules guys have to stick to the rules. Guideline guys, you go by your own guidelines and do what you want to do. When you got a team sport, everybody has to be rules guys and be on the same page."
Cartwright said players also noticed that some guys had a direct line with team management and bypassed Zorn when they had concerns.
"When you've got guys that feel like they have that power, then of course that's a bad apple in the bunch," Cartwright said.

How is that any different than under Gibbs? CP pretty much had his own rules then too. Star players being held to a different standard is a part of the game, whether people like it or not.

CP might have gotten preferential treatment then too, but Gibbs had more clout than Zorn. I don't think any player was going to go over Gibbs head with management, do you? Can you see Snyder telling Joe Gibbs how to run the team?
Anyway just thought it was a funny quote from Cartwright. He must feel he's on his way out and getting it off his chest.

I certainly think Rock is out. I like him but he really is not that good.

This may be a new era in the Redskins' relations with the media. I was talking about this with my wife over the weekend, and one of the things I noted was how terribly uncomfortable Vinny looked whenever talking to the media. Even in his brief appearances on Redskins Nation.
I never listened to his radio show.
Allen seems to be real good in front of mics and cameras. Maybe we'll see some real work on the Redskins PR

BEST quote yet from Allen: "The best way to improve a team is by addition rather than subtraction"
Wow, how profound....but I wouldn't mind swinging the AXE on some players.......

I doubt that Clinton Portis got away with as much under Gibbs. Star players will always look for easy ways out of things and preferential treatment. But the question is
how much they are able to attain. Rock is speaking about a large difference in degree, which isn't too hard to imagine. Gibbs did maintain a good deal of control that Zorn was never able to achieve.

IF Allen is running things here, why did he send the plane to pick up Shanahan so quickly - that plane had to have left before the press conference - why did he not say "by the way we are bringing in Shanahan and the plane is on the way to him right now"
this smells like another Snyder mistake to me
I just want to know that Snyder is NOT involved with the players or the coaches - how come this guy is still doing things like this?

I'm going to wait and see...I have no problem with ALLEN starting the process today...we all remember the mess from two years ago.

DEHog - I'm hopeful too but this is not going down very well - we all want Snyder to not be involved but some of these things just look like he's still doing things his way
I'll try to let things happen but I really do not trust Snyder - he's a scumb*g

Understood he's given us no reason to trust...I just wish he'd at least give the appearance that he's stepped away...does he have anyone advising him??

that's all I'm saying - oh well, we shall see soon enough
just step away from the vehicle, Mr Snyder, please

GM should make it clear to Danny that he was hired to perform all functions at the top level. In other words Bruce, say to Synder, "Danny, step aside....this is MY show now."

Looks like Shannahan is in the house:
The Washington Redskins moved quickly in their pursuit of Mike Shanahan on Monday, flying in the former Denver Broncos coach on the same day they fired Jim Zorn.
Shanahan landed at Dulles International Airport near Redskins Park in mid-afternoon and was driven away in a limousine to meet with team owner Dan Snyder and general manager Bruce Allen.
Shanahan's arrival was just one dramatic movement in a fast-moving day as the Redskins sought a new direction after finishing a 4-12 season. It started when Zorn was dismissed as coach in the pre-dawn hours after Sunday's 23-20 loss at San Diego.

we have been led to believe that the
only way that Allen agreed to come here was that he and whoever he brought in would be running things - now that was 2.5 weeks ago - a few things lately look a lot like Snyder's doing not Allen's

We don't know the full scoop. Allen may have been "present" all along when decisions were being made...
I remain the OPTIMIST........ HAIL

Allen is hanging onto his football life by his fingernails. He's probably the least qualified/experienced GM in the league, his primary asset being that Danny could sell him to the public. Thinking he'll take charge is a joke. He's an executive type with no real talent in relation to evaluating football talent. Too many guys on this board think he's his father. He's not. I guarantee he had no voice in picking a new coach.

Damn, the post-season isn't even over yet, we haven't even hired a new HC, and you're already beaten?
