A well expected development ...

An official announcement will follow soon ...

The new staff will be announced most likely Tuesday at the latest

Zorn, some Redskins aides expect to be fired by mid-day Monday

Washington Redskins coach Jim Zorn and many of his assistants fully expect to have their contracts terminated by Monday, and they could be notified of their departure by Sunday night as the team returns from San Diego, according to team sources.

Team employees also are preparing for an announcement of the move by Monday afternoon.

Zorn's relationship with Redskins owner Daniel Snyder has been fractured for much of the season, and during several occasions, the coach was stripped of authority, moves that several on staff perceived as urging him to resign. Snyder's interest in Mike Shanahan is no secret, and several league sources are convinced that the former Denver Broncos coach will replace Zorn as early as Tuesday.

The Redskins already interviewed one in-house candidate, secondary coach Jerry Gray, for Zorn's job in-season and have made efforts to comply with the Rooney Rule, which requires team to interview a minority candidate. Gray is African-American.

Shanahan already has been diligently working to secure a staff, likely to include son Kyle as offensive coordinator, Bob Slowik as a defensive coach, and Jim and Jeff Goodman in personnel capacities. Shanahan also is interested in Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, according to sources. Zimmer's contract expires at season's end.

Contrary to earlier predictions, No Blache and no Gray ... apparently.

Mike Zimmer

Bob Slowik

I'm not a big Shanahan guy, but it sounds like if this is true, that this will be a total house cleaning, which I'm all for. None of the current coaches should keep their jobs.

If the owner is 100% out of the way - I'm all for it. That's what we need.

We have a owner that wants to win!!!! He spends money to win and if you get all these guys and no winning what is he suppose to do??? I think he needs to get a GM that has won before. I think we got that in Allen. Second we need to get a coach that has won before. We are waiting on that one!!!!!

Welcome to the site.

I agree that Snyder wants to win. So badly that if he doesn't agree with something, he's too cocky to get out of the way and let it work itself out.

One of Dan Snyder's biggest issue is that he spends money in all the wrong places. To bring in a guy who wasn't really a need was crazy and showed that it wasn't going to bring any more wins. If he would have used that money on fortifying the o line, one could just imagine.

We are going to do this all over again over the next few months and we'll see how and who is running things really quickly. If you scratch your head - it's Dan. If it makes sense, it's not.

This would explain why my buddy (Shannahan's agent) has not returned my call in three weeks. I'm sure I will hear from him tomorrow night.

I'd like to see all of these coaches gone also and I think it will happen. If Snyder finally takes a step back and lets BA do his job, I think at the very minimum we're gonna see Shanahan(or whoever they hire) bring in a whole new staff of coaches and personell.

well Stephenie, while i agree that Zorn deserves to be fired, he should NEVER have been appointed Head Coach in the first place!! It was an unbelievable and ridiculous appointment and it has played out the way it was always going to. For an owner who wants to win so badly, and for the fans, it was a dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb decision and its cost us 2 years of wasted time during which the team has degenerated into close to a laughing stock. I can't contemplate a coach with similar lack of experience ever being made Head Coach of a premium Premier League team .... now thats not to say that we dont get our share of dumb appointments too but on this scale? Nah!

that is the ONLY concern that I have also - I'm probably a glass half full kind of guy but I think the ONLY chance for this franchise going forward is to NOT have Snyder involved at all and for this franchise to have a big culture change here - we need the players and coaches to be fully accountable - for too long here, Snyder and Cerrato tried the "best players and best coaches available" approach and the results were obvious

Hopefully Snyder will assemble a great FO and give them the opportunity to do their job - he can support them and should, but he needs to stay away from the players and coaches and try and behave like an owner should

this franchise has some talented players - with proper management, better coaching and some luck in locating a few good draft picks and free agents, we can see this franchise turn around in short time

So, what is new?

Is this not always the case with Dan Snyder?
