Snyder Discussed Shannahan in Front of Zorn

As the momentum continues to build between the Redskins and Mike Shanahan, Jay Glazer of FOX reports that owner Daniel Snyder initially offered the job to Shanahan during the 2009 offseason.
In response, Shanahan told Snyder that he needs to give coach Jim Zorn more than one year on the job.
The news meshes with rumors that have been circulating for months regarding offseason meetings and communications between Snyder and Shanahan, and regarding the belief that the Redskins tried to get quarterback Jay Cutler from the Broncos in anticipation that Shanahan would be the head coach.
And who knows? Maybe Shanahan would have decided to take the offer for 2009 if Cutler was going to be the guy.
Glazer also reports that, at the league meetings in March, Snyder asked former Broncos safety John Lynch to share everything he knows about Shanahan -- in the presence of Zorn.
All that said, Glazer says that Shanahan's top choice is the Cowboys. If so, it looks like Shanahan possibly has been using the Redskins in order to get Dallas owner Jerry Jones to bite.

I agree...I don't want Shanahan. That will be Danny's pick. I'd rather he take the Cowboys job and then Allen is more involved in the HC pick.
Man I hate how Danny runs this team.
The bad news is -- he's younger than me so I'll probably have to put up with this guy until the day I die!!!

I have come to the realization that, sans a miracle, Snyder will own the team for the rest of my life.
Not an especially happy thought, but, it is what it is.

worry not - I have been told in various ways, by many here, that Snyder is not a part of the decision process anymore - Bruce Allen is now the GM and Snyder has decided to let him have full control

i heard that today as well and i took it with a grain of salt like all these other talks,rumors etc. i,m not going to worry what all these media outlets put into their papers for us to read.let alone get us all bend out of shape and beside we have 3 more games to play in our season and what happens in the offseason happens in the offseason.
i just hope it,s some more good news and some decisions that make sense for the franchise.

There will not be any resolution of any of this until several weeks after the regular season. I don't get any of the speculation... especially the wild guesses disguised as inside info...
Let's just see some football.

That's funny. I've heard from certain people here that Allen is a "yes man" and that Snyder still controls the team directly. All based on
concrete facts, of course.
Oh and by the way, the owner of an NFL franchise will always be involved in hiring the head coach. They have to trust the guy the GM selects to run their team, after all, and the owner is the one paying the guy millions.
2 Rooneys were on the 3 man search committee conducting the interviews to replace Cowher, for example. And, they're not exactly known as meddling owners...

Guys be patient, we have waited so long for Vinny to go. We got one big wish.
I am sure Allen will make an informed decision based on his football knowledge.
Remember there will be many more rumors to come until a hire is made. So just take it with a grain of salt.
Snyders reputation is why the media can spin any piece of information. The public will most likely believe any rumor about Snyder.
I am confident a good hire will be made. Whether that is Shanahan or Gruden. Maybe even Cowher? Until a hire is made we wont know for sure.

That's just Glazer's pro-cowpie opinion that MS' top choice is ttit. MS wants to come to Washington that's why he told Snyder to get Allen.
I think it's been a one-horse race (with the exception of Buffalo) for Shanahan. He's coming here and he's gonna straighten some stuff out when he gets here. Bruce Allen will be firing and re-negotiating while Shanny scouts players and learns personnel. We are going to have an NFL quality Head Coach finally.

When I heard Glazer say that what Shanahan really wants is the Dallas job, I threw up a little bit in my mouth. If he's just using the Skins as leverage then I definetly do not want him coaching the B&G, I don't care how many Superbowl rings he has.

If true...... it's High Class that Shanahan told Danny to give Zorn another year at Head Coach. He wasn't trying to snake a job from someone else. He wanted to give a newbie like Zorn a true shot at being a Head Coach.
Let the bidding wars begin..........

I do notthink that a bidding war may exist at all. Either the deal is done or it is not. I already see a new Front Office man in place as part of that deal. So, it would be very difficult for me to think that the remainder part of that deal will not be fulfilled.
I suspect that Mike Shannahan will be here in a role similar to the one Joe Gibbs had, with the advatange for Shanahan of having Bruce allen instead of Vinny Cerrato.

Just to gauge your opinios a little bit: Why must Snyder try to emulate other team's past success?
Shannahan WAS very good, for a very certain amount of time, in Denver.
I understand that after the Zorn experiment he wants someone who is experienced. But why go after someone who clearly will be taking the position for the money and little else?
I'm a professional, just like you guys, I get paid for my work and enjoy it quite a bit. But I also know that money IS NOT everything. It's very important, but not everything.
Has Snyder forgotten that there are other factors besides money that determine overall happiness in an office environment?

Shanahan would be a fool to take the Cowboys job because he won't have control of the roster in Dallas. Jerry Jones runs the whole enchilada and he always wants the credit.

Man it's a good thing that Cutler deal didn't go down. A first rounder for a QB who won't be in the league in a couple years...

Wasn't it 2 first rounders and a 3rd?
Seems like a total waste; however, he apparently has a good shot of setting a Bears record this year. For most INTs in a season.
