Mike Shannahan v. Jon Gruden




I think Gruden has more fire while Shannahan gets more respect.
Its like a parent that yells all the time just gets tuned out, but when Daddy who seldom goes off gives correction it sticks. So imo its Mike Shannahan.

Honestly, I think it depends on what you want. I would prefer Shannahan to Gruden. I worry that he would get confused on what to do at the QB position and we'll end up with 5 on the roster.

Jason is showing alot down the stretch, enough to make a decent offer
but nothing that makes him a top 15 paid QB. Whatever no. 16 makes
we should offer.

I don't like the fact that Shanahan wants to wait and consider his options... what are we chop liver? We're probably offering 10 mil a yr and he's playing hard to get?

If we ever got a running game like Denver had we might just compete in our division for a change.

What if we win these last 3 games? All the Zorn/Campbell progress is down the tubes?

Not sure what the last sentence means. If we win the last three - that will be Zorn/Campbell showing progress. Well, more-so Campbell showing progress.

As for MS being our coach, he's currently making $7m to be unemployed. Of course he's not going to take less to be a HC and have to work. I would think that we would make an offer but he's a smart guy - or his Agent is smart. They are going to use leverage against Dan to get paid the most.

I don't know why anyone on here would really care what a coach get's paid in all reality. Also, coaches know that they can be out of here really quick so they better make sure their contract is favorable. It's not like we're a desirable job at this point. Dan Snyder is going to fire a coach b/c he couldn't get it done in 2 years. We've become a revolving door for coaches since he purchased the team and until he learns that it takes time to uninstall the old regime and build a program, he's never going to be a winner.

I have a similar feeling about Houston. Kubiak is a really good coach and he has a really good team. They play in a very tough division and until they get all their pieces lined up, they'll struggle. But if they played in a lot of other AFC divisions, they would be a frontrunner.

Shannahon, from what I understand is pretty conservative so maybe he would prefer to live and work in Texas rather than the more liberal East Coast. Or, maybe that does not matter in the least.

I would say Gruden, he did more will less in Tampa. He had no QB at all while he was there, some may say that was his choice. But it came straight from Ownership.

Shanahan didn't win anything without Elway so you have to take that into consideration as well.

George Allen was the better coach. You can look it up!

I vote Gruden. He's younger, has tons of passion, and could go toe-to-toe with the various egos in DC. Chuckie! Chuckie! Chuckie!!

Agree with this 100 percent

I still like Zorn. I have never seen a lossing team that has nothing to play for, play so hard and so good, as the Redskins have in the last few weeks. Lets be honaest, it takes more then a year and half to get everthing working. We change Head Coaches more then I change underwear. When was the last time this team has put up 30 plus points in two games in a row. Zorn deserves one more year. Shannahan is to old and wont stay longer then four years. Lets give Zorn a chance...

I wish that we could give Zorn another year. I think that barring injuries, we would be a playoff team next year. But, I also understand the risk involved. There are a lot of really good coaches out there that want to coach. They are only here this year and if we miss out on them, and stink it up next year, what do we do? Well, that's my thought on the whole thing. I do wish Zorn all the best and feel very confident that he'll land a job somewhere after next season. He's going to get paid from the Skins.

A decision has been made. Zorn is not coming back. Everybody is playing their part because it is in the best interest of their careers to do so ... even Zorn.

I guess when the changes at the top (that this franchise has intimated are ongoing) are completed, we'll have a better idea but I would be very, very surprised if Zorn is here even if we win these next 3 games - I think that Snyder has burnt that bridge and all the supports around it


First things first - we need to get the FO properly set up with a clear indication of who has what reponsibilities AND that Snyder has given those guys the authority to do what they need to do to make this franchise consistently competitive again - I assume (or hope) we'll have a President to go along with the GM and they will then bring in the coaching staff

I doubt that Zorn is a part of this franchise in any capacity except he'll most likely be getting a nice paycheck

I know the topic is who is the better coach and I don't know. Off topic then I will say I hope we get Chuckie. Love his fire.

not that it was addressed to me but IMO it's not a matter of whether he's good or not - I think Cerrato & Snyder tried to force him out and he wouldn't let them - he's not a man who is going to back down and I think he will be fired no matter what - I would be really surprised if he resigned as it would cost him a lot of money but, it would really show Snyder up, big time

for what it's worth - I think Gruden would be the better coach but Shanahan would be a better fit for this franchise
