Denver Post and Chris Mortenson believe its only a matter of time and they are just working through agreements. I didnt know him and Allen were so tight that Shannahan would tell potential suitors that they are a package deal. I think us signing him is a strong indication that Shanny is the next guy. This looks great I was worried about one of these big name recycles, if hired, would be power hungry and having a GM/Vp of football operations puts me much more at ease! Also he runs a version of the WC offense so the leftovers next year wont have to much of a learning curve. Its what we have clamoring for, for 10 years...lets pray this works!!!
"Mort believes that Dan Snyder and Bruce Allen will hire Mike Shanahan to be the Skins' next head coach. Mort's not ready to report that yet, but he said he was sharing that opinion "with great certainty."
He also thinks Cowboys owner Jerry Jones may have missed his window to have any chance at Shanahan.
"If things don't go well with the Cowboys, I think Jerry will have missed a great opportunity with Mike Shanahan," said Mortensen. "
Lovin that we might JJ to sweat a little

Mike Shanahan told the Bills that he and Bruce Allen were a package deal in Buffalo... I think it's pretty much bankable that Shanny's the next HC (with a big say in personnel matters.)
Maybe Gary Kubiak as OC? Kyle Shanahan as QB coach (if Kubiak goes his whole staff will be re-done) and between Allen, Kubiak and Shanahan there's a lot of connections for a good staff.
Campell has been playing very well lately, and it may save his Redskins career... then again, it may just make him a valuable trade commodity. Cutler is completely untradeable so he's not coming here, but Shanahan will probably want to draft a QB anyway.
Collins will be gone next season and the team will need a backup QB familiar with the system. Patrick Ramsey, Matt Schaub, Sage Rosenfels, David Carr... those are just a few guys who know Shanahan's system. It'll be interesting to see what happens

As I told you two days ago, LaVar was on The Sports Junkies acting like he had a scoop and he was pretty confident that something was going down and that Shanahan would be the new HC and the entire defensive staff would come back in place. Either it was a lucky statement by LaVar, or he really does have some inside information.

Not so fast... this is from NFL agent Ralph Cindrich's Facebook page:

Reports on Shanahan to Redskins. Not so fast Tonto. Redskins are 3rd his list but he'll make it close for millions of reasons.

Is he Shanahan's agent? Not that it matters with all the technicalities with the Rooney rule, you're going to get a lot of people in official positions trying to shoot down the rumors. I think there is too much smoke now not to have a fire especially with this team. The other thing is, Shanahan would be smart to keep everyone on ice and start a bidding war but knowing the Snyder will match JJ dollar-for-dollar in the end I am sure he would rather work for his good friend then JJ, but i dont want to jinx it so Ill just say everyone says its extremely likely since his boy is the GM now and Danny never puts away the check book when its needed...Im crossing mt fingers that this comes true...

I would love to see Shanahan or Gruden here and really think it might come down to one or the other
I am really pleased that we got rid of Cerrato but as Boss Hog and others have indicated, that is only half of the reason we are a bad team at present - we still have not had confirmation that Allen is not only the GM, but is also in charge of selecting the coach, the assistants and the players here - we are not going to be getting very far at all if all that happened is that Cerrato is gone and Snyder is selecting the HC and is still involved with anything to do with what happens on the field
Snyder is as big a reason we are so bad if not more than Cerrato was

At this point it's not about money it's about control and who'll give him the most.

I think it will eventually be Shanahan but I hope Snyder considers talking with Tony Dungy. He has worked with Bruce Allen at Tampa Bay. His style, demeanor, and character would be a tremendous addition to the Redskins.

Dungy is not interested in returning to coaching.

I suspect that they have already spoken with Dungy, not only about the GM job, but also the HC job... (Dungy, last week, stated that he had spoken with a team about a HC position, and that he declined, because he is not interested in coaching again). I suspect they have gotten all of the Rooney Rule requirements out of the way, and are now focusing on closing the deal, if it has not already been closed.

There are several serious considerations if Shanahan is hired:
1) If Shanahan is hired,
will he also be an Assistant GM like he was in Denver? As such, he made more bad draft/free agent moves than good ones and put Denver in Salary Cap hell.
2) If Shanahan is hired soon,
it will put the Redskins in good position to go after the best assistant coaches right away.
3) If Shanahan is hired,
will we keep Blache as DC? You would think the answer would be an obvious YES. But when the Bills were talking to Shanahan, he told them he already had his DC lined up. Bob Slowik, who runs a 3-4, was his DC in Denver. (and not nearly as successful as Blache)
4) If Shanahan is hired,
will we look around the league for the best OC available? Or will Jeremy Bates be on the first flight from L.A.? I'm not strictly opposed to Bates, but would like the Skins to do a complete search.
5) If Shanahan is hired,
will he try to either sign or trade for all of the Cleveland Brown defensive lineman again?
6) If Shanahan is hired,
will he have a weekly revolving door at RB again?
7) Will Bruce Allen/Snyder even attempt to talk to
Cowher, Holmgren etc? Personally
I would want to interview Russ Grimm, Todd Bowles and Hue Jackson before hiring one of the old guard coaches who have probably already seen their best coaching days pass.
8.) Probably not even a question, that if Shanahan is hired,
Portis is gone. For one, there is the bad blood from the trade. Second, Shanahan is probably salivating over the the complex RBBC he can create with the likes of Betts, Rock, Ganther and Mason. Add another retread free agent like Buckhalter, Mike Bell, Tatum Bell or Pittman and Shanahan will be exstatic!

If you're basing this information off of a report by Chris Mortensen, I wouldn't put too much stock in it. Mort is terrible in terms of his "rumors" actually being correct.

I'm curious how Snyder is complying with the Rooney rule in all of this.

The following quote is all over the news, and can be found referred to on at least 4 THN threads that I know of...
Leaders of the Fritz Pollard Alliance, the group formed to promote diversity in hiring at all levels of the NFL, said they're satisfied that the Washington Redskins complied with the provisions of the league's minority interviewing requirement before Thursday's hiring of Bruce Allen as their general manager, Mark Maske writes.
"We're very satisfied," John Wooten, the chairman of the Fritz Pollard Alliance, said in a telephone interview. "They fulfilled it over 10 days ago."
Wooten declined to identify the minority candidate or candidates interviewed by the Redskins.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a written online discussion on the league's Web site: "The Redskins have been in contact with our office throughout the process and have followed the proper procedures of the Rooney Rule."

There is one huge problem I see with this going down...and that is Dallas. He's my reasons:
1. Shann loves a QB given a choice between Romo and JC he's gonna choose Romo. He and Romo are both QB's from N. Illionis....they share a friendship.
2. Shann and Jerra are also close friends. Dallas is also much closer to Denver than DC, where Shann still resides.
3. High tax rates in VA and MD. No state tax in Texas.
4. Offensively, Dallas has more talent than Washington. This hurt to type but it's true. Compare Olines, Qb's, RB's and WR's...I think WR's are a tie (including TE's) but other than that Dallas wins.
I hope Shann winds up here and would be interested to see video of him and Dan Synder in the same room (do they make rooms big enough to fit both of those egos in?) but I am not confident that we will land him.

i will worry about this after the season comes to a close but for now i,m with bruce allen jim zorn is currently our head coach for the next 3 weeks.
at seasons end then we,ll see who comes to the forefront for the head coaching vacancy but until then i,m not going to get bent out of shape over rumors and speculation cause the first step has been done..

you can listen to them online. I listen to 106.7 the fan everyday on their online stream. It's good stuff. Mike Wise follows the Sports Junkies and then after that is Lavar and Chad Dukes show.
BTW - is this Chad Dukes the Chaddukes who used to and occasionally chats on this site?

I'd MUCH rather have Gruden than Shannahan, but I'm happy with either one.
