Now that we have a real GM....

Ok guys, now that we have a new "Real" GM, what's next?

My thinking is that over the next week, Bruce Allen meets with all the front office personnel people to see where they are at. Review what they've done and not done that's lead to the current state of this franchise. Speak with other NFL minds to see who within the organization should stick around.

At the end of the season, use the same approach for the current coaching staff. It may be a good idea to keep things in place for a year to see this thing out. If there is going to be a coaching change, let's get it over with as soon as the season is over. I want to be a major front runner for all the interested candidates and not give other teams opportunities to get the cream of the crop. I don't think we need one of the big name guys and personally, I think a few of them are going to take their name out of the hat because they will not have full control.

But that's just my take. Now give me your's.

Allen will evaluate the entire football program. He will fire Zorn the first week of January and allow the newly hired coach to keep or reject Zorn's current coaching staff. The Skins will bring in another person to assist with the pro/college personnel department and then hire a head coach. Blanche and Gray will interview for the head coaching position (fulfill Rooney Rule) and eventually the team will talk with Shanahan and hire him as the head coach with extensive control over player personnel authority (i.e.-Belchick role). He will bring his son Kyle Shanahan (OC-Texans) and Jeremy Bates (ex OC Broncos current OC USC) aboard to help him run the offense. He might even make Kyle Shanahan assistant head coach/WR coach and Bates OC. He will hire his longtime DC Bob Slowik and will consider keeping Greg Blanche as DC (Snyder's one suggestion). The organization gets a complete facelift, tummy tuck, and liposuction!

Dang - good write up. Well thought out. Are you a closet Bronco's fan? Sure know a lot about Shanny.

at this point it,s all evaluation and to see who stays and who gets the axe from the front office to the football field.
from coaches to players to player personnel they all will be looked at.
and that tummy tuck will hopefully take shape.

No not at all can't stand the Donkeys. In the AFC my team is the Raiders so I'm a glutton for punishment rooting for the Redskins and Raiders, but last week I was Redskins first over the Raiders. I think Snyder wants Shanahan and Gruden will stay in broadcasting another year. My personal choice would be Tony Dungy who has connections to Bruce Allen but he is a longshot to ever get back into coaching.

There is such a huge span between getting a GM and SuperBowl. This offseason will really show how good of a choice our GM/coach is.

Can you explain this?

I understand from reports that Allen's strength is as an administrator and a cap expert - we also heard that Snyder is trying to make this FO be a lot more effective and that there will be more additions at the very top - is Allen in charge here now and will he be the person that selects the new HC and brings him in for Snyder's approval or is this franchise still being managed by Snyder with Allen?

I think that Shanahan might be more suitable than Gruden because he will want to have some say in things and if he and Allen are managing things then this franchise will move forward

If Snyder is still making the decisions then little has changed, VERY little - all we did was lose Cerrato but Snyder's a huge problem in getting this franchise back on track

btw - the only person that I think will not be given any consideration is Zorn - I think that is definetly over - I do not mind if Blache stays but if he's the one responsible for playing guys out of position OR for the lack of discipline OR for the defense not being as effective in the 4th quarter, I hope he's sent packing and very quickly - this defense is only good on the stats sheet - we are 4-9, we need a lot of guys to lose their jobs here

We are known to win the SuperBowl every off season. Then, the season starts, and we win the SubParBowl. sigh...

 Too true! I also say it every year because that's what I hope, dare I say if we get the package deal with Shanahan we may have a chance? Let me just say real quick no matter who the Skins get for HC, I just want to be in the playoffs and the cows OUT 8)

we can only hope - one thing for sure right now is ttiT is not looking at all like getting over their issues with either playing well OR winning any games in December or January

Well then, my friend, I think you are going to like this GM. He has an understanding of the history of the Redskins... and his Dad was the real architect of the literal hatred the 71/72 Redskins had towards Dallas... Using the emotion of DT Diron Talbert, the rivalry was fanned white hot, as a means of motivating the team to achieve, not a team, but a brotherhood. The Over the Hill Gang.

This guy understands that history... and, I hope, will honor that as no team leader has since George Allen first donned his R cap.

I'm kind of over the euphoria of the fact that Cerrato is no longer a part of the scene - but, just where are we?

We have a GM now BUT Snyder is still in charge - an upgrade but ....

We hear that Shanahan or Gruden could be the new HC - if Snyder is still managing things like coaches and players, is there any difference than before - Snyder brought in Spurrier and Zorn too ...... oh my!

I'm all for Bruce Allen and whomever the new HC is but not if we still are under Snyder's control - we need a "Real" GM and we got Bruce Allen, but who's actually running things here?

I would rather we had a GM that makes the HC choice - we don't need to find the sexiest coach out there - we don't need Snyder making any decisions anymore - Snyder is all about glitz and cache - we need to get a team together here

I'm not sure that it's as great as some are thinking it is - what's the real difference?

Some people cannot be happy. Give it a chance before condemning it. The season's not even over yet, let alone a chance to dabble in FA and the draft.

I'm not condemning anything - I just am asking if Snyder is going to let the GM make ALL the decisions - otherwise, all we've really done is just lost Cerrato - and that's a great thing

I think you're reading too much into this - I would say that I'm cautiously optimistic about our future - last week I mentioned that if we could get rid of Cerrato (despite many here thinking he was staying) we would still have a problem if Snyder just brought in someone to replace him and tthen went on to bring in a new HC - Snyder needs to remove himself from the on-field part and he still might

I am hoping for the best here but I am only pointing out that our future if based on our past is not all that great no matter which great coach or how many fantastic players Snyder brings in here - we need a GM who makes the decisions not a GM that is managing the team in title only

I guess some here want to try and feel like we are going to have a chance at having a consistently competitive team with Snyder continuing to magage this franchise

as I have said before - if Snyder does not remove himself from selecting any coaches or players then next year we will have a "Suckers for Snyder List" - just for the record of course

hopefully after the season Snyder will turn over control of this franchise to others otherwise we are still looking at another mediocre season

I'm not pessimistic about this franchise at all - I'm just fatalistic about any possibility of Snyder turning things around

I'm with Jock on this one - it's great news that Cerrato has gone, but Allen won't be any more successful unless Snyder stays out of team management. I'm in "wait and see mode" right now.

And the "news" that Gray has been interviewed for the head coaching job is a worrying sign that things may be set to continue in the same dysfunctional manner as before. Maybe the "interview" was just an informal chat to satisfy the requirements of the Rooney rule, but if things were truly about to change, I can't help thinking that we should set about firing our current head coach before talking to anybody else.

not at all - that's what happens here a lot - people twist what you say to mean something else

Bruce Allen is a huge upgrade over Cerrato - I personally am glad Cerrato is not here - I just hope that Snyder gives the guys in charge here the sole authority to select the HC, ALL of the assistant coaches and the players for this franchise - BUT, it sounds like snyder is still a part of that and we need him to let go

I am cautiously optimistic on one side BUT I am just not sure that Snyder is able to let these guys manage this team - If Snyder is involved, all we have done is gotten rid of Cerrato - we shall see

Snyder is the main reason we are in this mess

for Blache to interview was a big stab in the back to Zorn - Snyder is showing himself to be classless as well as ignorant
