Shaun Suisham has been let go for Graham Gano of Florida State (Zorn Show on ESPN 980).

Love/hate this move...glad that Suisham is cut, but as a Canes fan I want Gano to fall flat on his face and fail miserably.

Is this guy any good, or does it just guarantee that we have no kicker going in to next year?

do you really think that players from certain schools are better suited to the NFL - have you looked at the diversity of backgrounds and players that are in the NFL


absolutely agree and predicted on Monday that Suisham would not be a part of this team this week

Well there has to be some accountability and he has failed the team in clutch situations. The 50 yd kick he missed a few weeks back I can understand, but the chip shots are inexcusable.

Back in high school, I played 3 positions in football - WR (my favorite but slow and only 6'1 isn't going to draw any attention but CB's), Punter and Kicker. I was being recruited to play for several D1 schools but after 2 ACL surgeries, it didn't happen. With that background out of the way, as a kicker, these kicks have to be automatic. You practice them, I hope 50-100 times a day from that distance and less from farther out. It's really tough, psycologically to handle the pressure because you really are singled out. I would say it's similar to being a pro golfer or basketball player with no time left and on the free throw line. Most people would crumble under that kind of pressure.

I wish him the best of luck. I'm sure he'll find a job in the NFL possibly this season or next.

My concern is that the new kicker is from FSU. They are known to have kickers that miss big kicks especially against their rival teams like Miami, UF or even NC State .

Sounds crazy, but as a Maryland alum, I hope all Duke Basketball players fail miserably in the NBA. It's nothing personal, they're just idiots for choosing to play at Duke. I understand your position completely...

maybe Frank and Canes need a hug - this guy sounds promising

you know, if nothing else, I hope that this kid takes this chance and becomes a huge success as a kicker in the NFL despite the fact that he's from a school that some think cannot possibly produce anyone that can play in the NFL and others think has a terrible record of kicking field goals

as a little extra tease for Canes (and any others who hope that this kid will not be great) - I will be very surprised if he EVER misses a FG under 30 yards with the game on the line

we can and do - the fact that some players are trying very hard and helping the team right now shows me that someone should already have been looking at other players here OR utilising players differently OR adjusting the offensive and defensive strategy to suit the players and not hoping the players can execute the scheme OR all of the above

FWIW - I talked to a friend of mine who is an FSU fan. He said this guy was verygood, and he was suprised he did not make an NFL opending day roster.

... back in the day. Given the opportunity he would let the team down. It really wasn't even a pressure FG attempt since they had a touchdown lead at the time late in the 4th. Good move, an easy move. He had to go if the organization is serious about sending a message. The rest of them will have to wait until season-end to get the boot.

Didn't he make 86% of his FG's this year? Now I'm not nominating him for the HOF and I was PISSED when he missed that FG, he's a pro kicker and the game was on the line and please. And it followed a couple other games where he hurt us. I got the issue. But man, going to the waiver wire now? It seems like another bad, finger pointing decision by Snyder. What about having a pick off ripped out of your arms and run back for a touchdown? What about JC's OT pass? Those hurt us as much as the missed FG.

Suisham has been on the bubble for a while, though. And considering how (un)reliable he's become, finding an equivalent for his replacement isn't too hard.

Gano has a big foot

They should have booted Kareem Moore. He handed the Saints a
touchdown. That was the dumbass play of the year. The Redskins would have surely driven the field in the last few minutes of the half and at least scored a field goal. 20 to 10 or 24 to 10 at half time instead of 17 to 17.

Well, I think cutting him is an overreaction based on his stats this year and again I'm not arguing we shouldn't try in the off-season. But we well know through the last 15 years how hard it is to get someone to come in mid season and not suck worse.

Then again opposing him is like Capital Punishment. Even though I oppose it I think they deserve it and you'd never catch me at a rally to ban it. But my feeling is Danny wanted this because he was pissed and wanted a scapegoat and the odds are our kicking is about to get worse and not better, at least in the immediate future.

Scapegoat? Really? The guy misses crucial kicks all the time. I will never forgive him for missing that kick during the playoffs that would have really put the pressure on the Seahawks. These last two misses are just two more reasons to boot him. Seriously, I can forgive a lot about a kicker. But a guy who has no nerves when the game is on the line is not somebody you want on the field....when the game's on the line.

we are in week 13 of a 3-9 season and cutting the kicker is the anwser???

I would say the play where we turned the interception back over to the saints for a TD was more damning then that FG miss. If you are going to try and advance an interception , make sure you dont lose it at the end.
