Lose out
Don't let on that your throwing it...
But throw the season and finish 3-13
In all probability the Redskins would recieve the #1 Overall draft pick
That in an of itself can help our offense more than any 09' win streak

They won't get the #1 -- the Rams or Detroit will.
And if you were to lose out, you would be accepting the fact that we have a bunch of LOSERS on this team ---- every single one of them.
If they actually EVEN CONSIDERED doing this, we would need 53 draft picks to fill out a new team. I hope there are still some people with the desire to win. If these guys are competitors they will try hard to win.
But don't worry, there is only one game that is winnable the rest of the year (without some type of miracle win coming).

This is the worst idea since the last thread that said the same thing. Does anyone really think that losing every game on purpose and turning this team into a complete joke will help us win next year?
If you want to know whether it's easy or difficult to turn around an entire culture of losing in an organization, ask the Lions, the Saints, or the Cardinals. They all have spent, or are still spending, years and years at the bottom of the barrel.

I'm not agreeing with the orginial poster at all, but winning next year should not even be close to being a consideration. The front office needs to realize that they need to rebuild, even if it means losing for the next couple of years. This team needs a top-down makeover, from the front office to a lot of the players. It's going to take at least 2 to 3 years, if they do things the right way, to turn this team around.

I don't think any professional athlete cares about the draft position for the next year. They will try to win; however, I do think the organization should look at the situation--the Skins may not have a chance to win more than one more game this year--and start playing some of the young guys to see what they have for next year. In the NFL, teams can turn it around in one year, but it will take some deft planning, something the Skins have not done well in a very long time.

I agree in that a 2-3 year solid makeover is what it will take to make us one of the top teams in the league. However, a playoff spot and being a contender the year after isn't out of the question. All of that, of course, assumes that the FO will play things right.

You never "throw" a game let alone a season. Right now as far as I'm concerned these guys should be fighting for their jobs.
I hate to bring this thread back up any higher with my comment but "C'mon man!"

I don't want an early pick, they get paid wayyyyy too much and aren't always worth it.

Assuming we beat only Oakland, we're still enitrely likely to be fifth to draft anyone, maybe a great OL. KC still has Cleveland to play and KC beat us, so KC will pick after we do. If we lose to Oakland, of course, we'll pick ahead of both KC and Oakland and therefore should get a prize pick, the Ot of our dreams. Do I have this right? Further, if we beat Oakland and knock off either the cowboys, giants, or eagles, we won't have an OL to pick who is a legitimate first rounder. Is this also correct?
I'm not suggesting we try to lose a game, even one, but I did want to see if my saying the about would shake the football morals of anyone. Ironically, if we finish as expected, we could wind up with a top QB, according to projections that I've seen.

IF the Majority Owner of the Washington Redskins (MOWR from now on) wants a winning team:
- fire Cerrato now; replace him with just about anyone as interim-GM
- hire a real GM as soon as legally possible. I suggest whoever is assistant GM of the Giants, because the Men of Mara are pretty well run; I've also heard persuasive suggestions that Bill Polian's son, now an AGM, wants to run a team. Also good.
- Let the real GM hire a coach. For that matter, leave Zorn and the current staff. Right now, Zorn looks like a learning head coach, and his biggest fault is that he is not Joe Gibbs: able to hold down Snyder/Cerrato with one hand and coach with the other.
- Draft OL and more OL.
- Find some decent players in the 4th round (Dexter Manley sound familiar?) and the 5th (remember Charles Mann?)
- Rebuild for depth. Don't pretend that one star can carry the team to the SB.
- Ignore the TV entertainment talk about the "franchise QB". Campbell is good enough. Just for fun, consider the great QB Class of '83: Marino, Boomer, Young, Everett, Elway, Kelley. Before the salary cap and free agency evened the conferences, none of the AFC's '83 brand QBs won a SB, and Elway lost three years running, while Kelley lost four years (? did he start the last one, or was it Frank Reich?). Point is, Bart Starr was mediocre until Lomardi put that team together.

The point still remains - that effort today is a good indication of what can happen when a bunch of guys play together - yes we were a little lucky that the Saints were banged up but our team played very well for the most part and almost won a game we should not have
