Anyone still not sold on Devin Thomas?

Anyone watching has to have noticed Devin Thomas' playmaking ability lately. We've always known he had 4.3 speed and great size for a WR, but on that 27 yard catch he looked like a huge Barry Sanders. I can only hope this makes the playcalling target him more often. I've always felt that if we brought in a true #1 Santana Moss would become a Wes Welker type of producer. Not necessarily from the slot but in the fact that without teams covering him couldn't cover him on two sides and a safety over the top. Same with

ey.
Devin Thomas made at least four separate tacklers miss and it was such a blur you almost forgot it was a laterally thrown, naked screen pass. The truth about WR's in this league is, as in the case of Marques Colston, they don't become #1's until teams go to them as #1's. Can anyone remember Thomas' last dropped ball?(I'm not going to accept Campbell's pass behind him in the endzone) This team needs a dangerous Devin Thomas, for the sake of Santana,

ey, the Running game and the Pass Pro.
They always talk about his shortcomings as the reason he isn't getting the playing time he wants. If for some reason he still has the problem of not running the correct routes then we need to do at least three screen passes to Devin per game to keep defenses aware of him. We saw Kelley pick up a nice gain yesterday and Fred Davis led all recievers in yards and catches. With decent running and enough threats on the field, this offense can be very difficult to load up on. I'm also in favor of keeping everyone in to block with only two WR's going out. Getting Defenses tired can only help the Oline run and pass better.
We need to start forcing the use of our offensive threats until teams have to adjust. There is real talent on this roster, just not on the O-line. Help them play better by spreading it around.

It's definitely good improvement. Consistency will be an even more encouraging sign that we made the right choice.

I think a lot of us are hoping that Thomas, Kelly and Davis can be a part of this franchise for a long while - I have a strong feeling that we also have a number of other young players on both offense and defense that have yet to be utilized to their potential - Fact is we have a lot of very talented players here, the secret is to have a GM that can continue to provide players that suit what the coaches want to do - the next thing is to provide the coaches with quality depth and to have a balance of experience and youth
we have a bunch of talented NFL players that were not assembled to not only be able to contribute but also to make the other players around them better
We need an NFL GM with full authority to ensure that we have a good coaching staff and the players that suit what that staff wants to do both offensively and defensively

yea, i'm not sold, besides running he has no discernable talent. He's like a bigger Santana Moss.

I just counted, and it was 5 potential tacklers and if he hadn't run over the last tackler who was laying face down, he might have found the endzone. He doesn't have a case of the drops, he gets a great jump at the snap. Get him involved now, when he's 22 or 23 and he'll have the respect of DB's for 10 years. I'm sold because I'm watching

At some point, I would love to see a Thomas, Kelly and Mitchell set as receivers on the field at the same time. It would be an interesting situation. Granted, it is not likely to happen anytime soon, but it would be interesting.

We don't have the means(any other NFC East team's O-line) to get him the ball consistently, that's why all you see is the running. A GM is personally accountable for chaos in the pocket in the way Cerrato thinks he's technically not(see playoff talent comment).

I'm just sayin he has no real route running talent and he DOES drop a ton of passes. I think he should be involved because he doesn't have much competition, but he won't be in there all the time because he's not a complete player. He's basically like Moss, he can't catch, he usually only gets open if he runs in a straight line. He probably doesn't get jammed at the line as bad as Moss does. He's alright but Kelly and especially Marko deserve to be in just as much as he does.

I've noticed Marco in the games a bit more over the last few weeks. Marco had a great downfield block on one of Betts' longer runs and so did Kelly. I think that these WR's need to show they are willing to do what it takes to get on the field on any play like blocking on run plays and then they will get opportunities. We know these guys have all the physical tools. That's not the problem but I think that they have to be mentally ready. We don't know much of what goes on but I do know that some WR's have a route option if they see certain coverage. Randel El is really good at identifying coverages and it's shown that when they play zone on him, he finds the void and sits right in there. Some of the younger guys should watch and learn. If they apply that knowledge with their talent, then watch out. They are the only thing standing in their way.
And on the one play that Devin made, clearly he wanted more than the defenders did. There's something to say about drive and he had it. Now lets see more of it, more often.

I completely disagree, and if he is just like Moss, isn't that what we're looking for? Only Bigger? How many recievers on the planet are better than Moss?

Its kind of crazy to ask if people are "sold" on Devin Thomas after he had one decent game. Let's not get carried away.
But Redskins fans have to be happy to see him doing something. I think the one good thing that could happen in this soul crushing season would be if some of these younger guys get a chance to take the field and develop.
It seems like in the past, they put Thomas or Kelly (or even freaking Rinehart) out there for a game and the guy makes a mistake or doesn't produce then he's back on the bench.

I agree Riggo - they need to let these guys work through their mistakes. But the issue is we don't have the other cast of players who can step up either - except for 1.5 games from Betts. I have to say though that Seller's looked darn good on Sunday too. They used him a lot as a FB going in motion to the TE spot to seal the edge. I think this was a huge move to help open holes for Betts.

yea lets not get crazy here i think he only that one catch in the game. And compared to the other recievers that we taken in that draft (in particular royal and jackson) he is still way behinde the curve. its nice to see that he can make plays but so could brandon lloyd when he was with the niners, lets see consistancy first

None of our recievers drop a ton of passes! Through week seven we had the fewest drops of any team in the NFL!!!
A through like the one JC made to DT in the endzone doesn't count as a drop, since that be was incomplete do to a bad pass. Just because a reciever touches a ball doesn't mean he "dropped" it.
Certain position have their week spots. Like typically it isn't a good idea to through a RB a pass that is over his shoulders. They just don't catch many. Same thing for TE and below the knees. Noe there are very good RB and TE that can catch everthing you throw at them, like

ey, he is consistantly has one of the highest catch pecentages in the NFL.

We need to get DT the ball with space to work with. WR screen? I think he could be a dangerous open field guy with the way runs.

There are players like

ey, who catch most of the passes thrown their way, and there are a lot of them. We just don't realize it because nobody else on our team can catch a cold. Watch 2/3 of starting wide receivers in the league. They all catch better than any one starter the skins put out there.

Yup, let's compare the part time #2 2nd year receiver to all the #1s on the league(I know not all, but it's fun to exaggerate, isn't it?)

How many times has Moss been streaking down the field, open, and the "quarterback" doesn't get him the ball? If S. Moss had Peyton Manning throwing him the ball, I believe his numbers would look quite a bit better.

I'll be sold on Thomas when he has a good season, not when he makes one good play. In reality, Thomas had two catches and 37 yards against the Broncos. He has 9 catches and 108 yards, which is a good game for a top receiver.
