Would you trade Landry?

Simple Question here......
Personally, I would try to package him and a 1st rounder for McNeil in SD. Dudes a FA next yr and one of the best YOUNG (25 y/o) LTs in the NFL
( 2 pro bowls)
Thats a pretty solid trade for SD one would think.

He's a good player, I think his expectations were set high from ST. To answer the question though, no. Look at Ryan Clark...

I'd trade him but first, I would switch him to a different position.

i don't think you would get much for him at this point

I would trade him for a 1st rounder. I think we should amass as many picks as we can next year. It's gonna be a big draft next season, and we need to start building thru the draft.

How are you going to trade him? Nobody is going to give you a 25 yo Stud Tackle for a broke safety who can't make a tackle and is just worried about making a big hit and ending up on Sportscenter. And here's a shock to you, there's not many GMs in the league who are saying to themselves "boy, I wish we had Landry on our team".
Our "Safety" -- a position named for the last guy back on defense to stop would-be ball carriers from scoring -- is atrocious at making open field tackles and takes some of the worst angles at stopping ball carriers.
Landry is the NFL version of Pitcher Jose Mesa. During home games with the Indians, Mesa would throw a pitch and look at the scoreboard to see how fast he threw it. Pretty soon he didn't care if he was throwing strikes anymore just how fast he threw the ball. It got to the point at home the Indians wouldn't show the speed of the pitch as it was too much of a distraction to Mesa. Landry doesn't care about making tackles anymore, Dirty 30 just wants to make the hit.
Yet another Skin worried about themselves rather than the team...it's sad.

I seriously think there are many more positions to address before looking too far into Landry.

Man is he costing us though. I had such high expectations of him and as soon as he got run over by Jacobs last year, the guy has sucked

I would trade him, but at this point in time I doubt that many teams will be lining up to take him away from us.

I mentioned this before, and people just blew it off. The guy can't even show up on time at the OTA's and people thought he was the next best thing to sliced bread.

Yeah, Landry is far from a star... first of all he needs to be lining up in the box. (Imagine if Orakpo was playing end and Landry was SS!) Still, the guy is barely adequate out there. He's got a lot of talent, but it's not like he's a hot property. I doubt there's even one GM who would give us a second rounder for him.

Well, since Mike Ditka is no longer coaching, that's not very likely...

So you are saying that you knew he would struggle this much this year? What made you think so?

As part of any trade involving Landry, I attach Carlos. "You can't have Laron unless you take Carlos with him"
2 problem solved.

Put Moore at FS and move LL to SS I want to see him there before I make a decision on him

No. I don't believe that he could be such an upgrade that he would warrant sitting either Doughty or Horton, whom both have worked their tails off, and both of whom actually make plays (unlike a certain first round primadonna). He should sit, and earn his right back in. In the meantime, Moore, whom is a legit FS, should play.

No.... Just coach him and try to find someone who is half ST so Laron could go back to what he was when ST was here....

I'm with DEHOG on this, LL was drafted to be a SS and that is where he should be playing. This is just more of the Skins' staff playing people out of position (Orakpo) but nobody has said as much because we feel we don't have a better option at FS. Go find one, this is more an issue of Vinny not finding someone to fill in for Sean Taylor at FS and instead moving someone out of position as a fix! LL is not a FS and until we see how he is at his natural position I would not trade him.

No trade, but surely would bench him until he earns his spot back.
That being said, until we have a winning coaching philosophy which focuses on execution and attention to detail, we will continue to see sloppy play from ALL these guys.

We're playing LL out of position, put Kareem in. Horton won't go to waste, run the Cobra package that worked so well last year. Doughty, may be the odd man out of maybe Horton.
We're playing Orakpo out of position cus for some reason we didn't wanna get a LB.
Jarmon needs to be on the field more. Chris Wilson needs to be on the field more. There's a SLEW of players I could name that aren't getting enough game time right now....

We couldn't get a 1st for him right now, but if we moved him to his natural position for the rest of the year and he showed better, we might by next year. I'd take a 2nd for him if nothing else and I think we could pull that right now.
Point is, he's probably going to decline in value, and we are in full rebuild mode, so he needs to be shipped. Just like most of our skill players do. We are in a rare position of actually being one of the worst teams in the league while still having some very tradeable players. We need to take advantage of it.

Out of position? He's playing Safety! Sure he's better suited for SS than FS, but he's not a linebacker... There's no excuse for these missed tackles and attitude... dude is celebrating a tackle on 3rd down like he just won the game... meanwhile he whiffs 2 or 3 times a game... I'm done with him, Hall, Rogers, Smoot, and Moss and his dropped passes for that matter... so much for their "veteran" leadership...

I understand the question and we have many needs but I just don't think we'll get what this player is worth - as some of you know, I think Landry is a better player than we are seeing and I think his level of play this year has stemmed from 2 things - he's a better strong safety than free safety and the defensive scheme and play calling has been suspect
I would be all for trading any player but only if we receive fair value - that will not happen IMO if we trade Landry, considering how he has been used and from what the NFL has seen from how he has played in this defense this season - I still think that Landry is one of the better strong safeties in the NFL

thank you Chris - this defense is looking pretty good statistically but in my opinion that is misleading - we should be seeing an even better performance from this defense and why there are so many talented guys on defense not getting opportunities OR being played out of position is beyond me

Defense
- Until we stop playing soft, we won't get any better in the TO ratio or the passing defense. We're lucky we're as good as we are.
- Good God, put Daniels in rotation at DT and put Orakpo's hand down. I realize that a theory could be we're waiting for Phillip to retire so we don't sit him in the bench, but I watched Orakpo power thru two defenders for a sack. HE'S A FREAKIN DEFENSIVE END!!!!
- As huge of a supporter as I am of Landry, he needs to be benched until he can prove he's worthy of starting. His angles aren't getting any better and neither is his judgment. Put Moore in as FS and and rotate Landry in at SS if he earns it.- Hall can sit right beside Landry. He won't tackle, he won't play. I don't care how much money he is given. Landry and Hall need to return to basics.
- Rocky got his first pick, and it was a good pick. He went up after it. He's still one of the only guys I won't complain about.

I said this in the post-game thread...see highlighted.
