Looks like Goodell will be trying to cash in on this overseas market.

What is your opinion about games being played overseas? I honestly don't care for it. Doesn't one team lose a home game because of this?

I don't want to comment on the pros and cons of playing a game overseas right now, but it's clear that there is still a huge appetite for the NFL in this country. I was at the game, and Wembley Stadium really was full. Unfortunately, it never was going to be a competitive match, and when the Patriots scored on an interception return on the third play of the game, then the Bucs fate was well and truly sealed.

But the whole game was fairly forgettable. About the only thing that left a lasting impression on me was the sheer size of Vince Wolfork - he might be the largest moving object I've ever seen.

I would prefer the NFL stay, at a minimum on the North American continent. Selling out 1 game a year in London seems doable but not 8 regular season plus 2 preseason. The time difference seems too great as well.

Didn't they do away with NFL Europe?

I thought that was a mistake. If nothing else it made for a good "developmental" league, even if it never became as popular as the NFL in America.

Agreed.. and then to turn around and say.. "we need to expand over the ocean".. to me is just.. DUMB!!!! I'm wondering if Goodell and DS are related somehow?

And long before they did away with NFL Europe as a whole they did away with first the London Monarchs, who were never well supported, and then, finally, the Scottish Claymores. There is NO WAY a UK franchise would work - the London game had fans comming from all over the country for this one-off. No way that happens if the UK got an actual team.

I agree, and I'm sure it was a painful decision for the NFL. Maybe the $$ didn't work out. I bet they were also disappointed that what started as a European league quickly became an essentially German league. (Then again, what's wrong with that, if the support is there?)

SSIII posted some numbers when the league closed down. The better teams were drawing attendance numbers that rivaled some of the worse NFL teams. It's too bad they had to close it down.

I know the Scottish team were pulling around 15,000 (I was at those games) and I think the English team were pulling about 9,000. Part of the problem was that were playing in 60,000 seat stadia.... I know the German teams were hitting about 30 - 40,000. I can't syaawhat the Dutch or Spanish team were pulling though. Probably around the same as the Claymores
