2010 Draft

We need Oline most, I understand that.
We could use a franchise QB but I don't think there is one.
Yet still there is something I believe we should do;
The fans of this franchise were robbed of seeing an all-time greatest
pairing of Safeties, left with broken hearts and a broken secondary
Drafting Eric Berry out of my hometown Tennessee would effectively
give us a great combo at safety. Last year I begged for us to draft Percy Harvin (check the posts) I created at least 5 threads; this year it's Eric Berry, he's a playmaker, he's physical, and he would allow Landry to bulk up even more and play around the line the way he was intended to when we drafted him.
Can we fix the Oline and QB situations after we address the loss of
Area 51. Teams have been throwing on us, and Landry is a natural blitzing safety who never gets to blitz.

No. We must go after the o line. that is the main area of need for this team plain and simple.

For real... Horton is doing fine... I think its the DEF COR and his scheme..Linemen are VITAL to both sides of the ball...OLINE is first... Then DBs...
if we have a good Linemen then we can almost put anyone back there to throw and hand off...

Linemen, Linemen and more Linemen. We need starters and depth. You can never have enough.

Safety??? Pure luxury. Not happening.

that would be a classic Snyderatto move. Neglecting your O Line to get a big time safety to sell jerseys. That would not suprise me all.....I bet they would fine some "solid" undrafted lineman to groom though

As far as I'm concerned every offensive player we have including Portis is trade bait with the possible exception of

It will depend upon who we hire as coach. If Shanahan is hired he will want one of the young guns coming out for the draft (i.e.-Bradford, Locker, McCoy, Clausen, Tebow, etc.). We might be advisable to move south in round one to pick up some additional picks. We could then take a QB and two OL with our first three picks.

Without a QB, our Oline is useless. I want a first round QB that's not named Tebow.

No way. You take oline in the early rounds and then get a qb later. I admit that regardless who's running the team, you've got to develop a QB unless you think Colt is the answer - which I don't.

If there is a franchise QB there you have to take him. He would be more of an impact than any OL, but that being said the rest of the draft needs to be spent on OL!

Has to be O-line first. Montana, Unitas or Elway wouldn't succeed behind this team's line.

No way. You have to take a O lineman. Look at what Bill Parcels did in Miami. They took a LT Jake Long with a top 3 pick. They took Chad Henne later in the draft I think last year and what a great pick that Long has been. Henne - along with the rest of the o line gave up 0 sacks last night to the JETS.

Is Henne serviceable or is he a franchise QB. I want a franchise QB. When's the last time we had one of those? 30 years ago? 40?

i have been saying for 2 years to get taylor mays (or berry) and have been blasted for that...but that is for a different thread (btw i agree with LL30 out of position)
but this team should take the top 5 pick it WILL get and trade OUT and collect picks...***REMEMBER WE LOST A PICK FOR THE SUP PICK THIS YEAR***
there are SOOOOOO many holes on this team on the O side. we need atleast:
2 Olineman
1 QB
1 Rb (cp26 is getting old and we need more speed back there)
i would say a WR but i would give the two stiffs we drafted last year 1 more year

If you have a chance for a "CAN'T MISS" lineman, you've got to take him. Could you imagine if we could get a 2nd coming of Chris Samuels and put him at RT? Man that would be nice.

OK, let me rephrase, if there is a LT there of the quality of Long and no franchise QB, then you take the LT. If you have a chance to get a franchise QB you always take him. It would all depend on how you think the draft will play out, but if the choice is between two evenly graded players for their position and one is a franchise QB and one is a franchise LT you have to take the QB.
When the Colts drafted Peyton, their OL was a mess. Would it have been better for them to take OL? How about when NY and San Diego took Rivers and Manning or when P-Burge took Big Ben.
Cleveland put a lot of effort a few years ago in drafting and signing OL and they got some great players. They whiffed on their franchise QB so they still stink. We whiffed on our franchise QB, when we got Campbell and we stink. Oakland drafted a franchise LT and QB and whiffed on both and they still stink. We hit on Chris Samuals and John Jansen we still stunk because we had no QB.
Every time this franchise has had good QB play it has resulted in a trip to the playoffs.
You just can't pass up a franchise QB when one is there! The last great QB this team drafted was Sammy Baugh. Norm Snead got us Sonny, but that has been it for franchise QBs in the Burgundy and Gold.
Our OL is a mess and desperately needs fixing, but not at the expense of not taking a QB that could change the fate of the franchise.
There won't be any FA QBs that will be available and I hope they address a couple of the OL whole during free agency. We can't go into the draft needing to fix 3 or 4 spots on the OL AND still needing a QB.
We won't be able to fix the QB spot until the draft, unless Denver doesn't resign Orton and then that is only a marginal upgrade over Campbell. This team needs rebuilding and OL won't fix everything. If you are going to rebuild you might as well start with the most important position.

Both Henne and Sanchez looked better than any QB we've had in a long time

The x-factor is the staff. Without a good staff, it doesn't matter WHO we draft, we're going to come up short regardless. I believe we have decent talent at most (o line is shaky) positions. Enough to be over .500, but without the staff to get the most from what we have, we're falling short. Get rid of Zorn, bring in interim HC and let that guy plan for next year. That way he can eval current roster and go from there. Don't fire Zorn and promote and interim that won't be here next year.

I don't what the concern is all about... we can draft one player to fill two holes... Draft a great QB/athlete and let him play O-line with CP in the wildcat on 1st and 2nd down, then he can play QB on passing situations and let CP pass block... problem solved... we don't need multiple draft picks...

You can't hope for tto much better than Samuels and Jansen in back to back season. We are 68 and 81 with Samuels as our starting LT. The year before we drafted Samuals we had Andy "who the" Heck playing LT and we won the division and a playoff game because we got good QB play from BJ.
In 05 we got good QB play from Brunell and we went to the playoffs and won a playoff game. In 2007 we got good QB play at he end of the season from TC and we went to the playoffs.
Yes, we desperately need OL help, but a good QB can cover up a lot of problems on a team. A great QB can down right take a bad OL to the SB, just like Warner and Big Ben did last year.
You stick Soup on the 91 Skins team and they don't even make the playoffs!

Unless there is a rookie wage scale, unlikely, then no one will want to trade into the top 5. The salaries are too big for those players. Anyone drafted in the top 5 is likely to get one of the biggest contracts ever for a player at their position.
I agree on the Oline. A top Oline can mask deficiencies in other players. Remember Timmy Smith?

There isn't a Jake Long in the draft this year. In fact, it is going to be a down year as far as offensive linemen are concerned. This year's draft is deep on the defensive line and at qb. There are four or five qb's that could go in the first round assuming they all come out (Bradford, McCoy, Claussen, Locker). Defensive line is deep with Suh, McCoy, Dunlap, Cody, etc.
Given what is available this year, I think that we will most likely go with a qb in the first and then follow up with the oline.

There isn't one of those this year. There might not be an offensive lineman taken in the top 10 at all in the upcoming draft.
