Today’s Storyline
Deep D – The Capitals’ defense corps figures to be an incredibly difficult unit to crack, as evidenced by the assignment of talented first-round draft pick John Carlson to Hershey on Tuesday. Ten blueliners remain in camp, all of whom played at least 15 games (regular-season and playoffs) for the Capitals last season. That experience has paid off in the preseason, with Washington allowing just two goals per game, which makes it that much tougher for vice president and general manager George McPhee and his staff to determine the group of seven or eight who will be with the Capitals when the regular season opens a week from tonight in Boston.
