This Sunday you will win a football game, ending your seemingly endless losing streak.
I will probably get destroyed by some other posters of this great web site, but I can't harbor any positive expectations about my team after watching the end of last season and the first two games of 2009.
Listen: I've been a fan of the Redskins for 30 years. I try to remember the glory years over the Petitbon, Norv, and Spurrier eras. And I know when things are going downhill. This is one of those moments. We have not scored 30 points in a game since forever, have a fruity loopy coach and a QB who cannot make a big play downfield. Our O-line is suspect. Oh, and last time I checked, this game was won by most points scored, so even our competent Defense will sooner or latter have a bad game because of the ineptitude of our Offense. I won't even mention my FO out of shame.
My team is about to implode and I am afraid your team, the Lions, will be the catalyst of this situation.
We were actually favored by 9 points coming into week two against one of the worst teams of the NFL. We barely beat them. We beat you guys at home last year, when we were on our winning streak, but not by a lot. This year, I honestly do not know how we will eek out a victory. I can only HOPE for one, because I am a Redskins fan and forever will be.
It took a 0-16 season for you guys to actually shake things up. The record sucks but you actually accepted afterwards it was time for change. Why does my team prefer to wallow in mediocrity? Can you give us any pointers on how to build institutionally with some kind of order, structure and logic?
Your truly,
El Mex.

Bravo! I too have a horrible feeling about the game.
But maybe if the fans are booing at home and we lose to the Lions on the road Danny and Vinnie will lear...oh nevermind.

Oh my God, Oh my God, The world is ending!!!! {running around in circles grabbing my head like my hair is on fire} Panic! Hysteria! Primal s-c-r-e-a-m!!!! Ohhh My God....it's over!!! AAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!
These posts get more stupid every time. I'm from Michigan, I know what it's like being a Lions fan. You have no freaking idea what you're talking about comparing the Skins to that train wreck.

That "train wreck" was 1 or 2 plays (long pass to santana, a RARE one I might add) to beating our model franchise last year. So... i wouldnt count anything out. Im actually going to try to find someone so that i can bet on the lions to win.

Go north to Philly or NY maybe west to Dallas they'd gladly take your money

Im not sure Id be the one paying up... we'll see sunday. Honestly betting against the skins is the best thing for me. I will GLADLY pay $20-50 bucks for a W, and when they lose, i get a little cash to buy some more beer in which to wallow in. Its a win-win.

Please don't lump Richie Petitibon into the same sentence as Norv and Spurrier. He was a great defensive coordinator and got left a shambles of a team for one year. He was never given a fair shot! A fan of 30 years would know that and show some respect.

Sorry, but we played absolutely terrible when he became coach.
In fact, it's hard to argue that his tenure does not mark the end the glory days of this team. He left the team, at that moment, with the worst mark of the last 30 years.

As good as the D-line played against two above-average offensive lines, I really don't think Detroit and a rookie QB that threw 2 picks last week has much of a chance. Hopefully they can run the ball a little better against a pretty crappy defense. Throwing def won't be an issue. Their secondary is laughable at best.

Without Petitbon, there wouldn't be 3 Super Bowl trophies at Redskins Park. He was Gibbs choice as successor not JCK's and even tho he inherited an aging/declining team, was yanked after only one year in favor of Norvless (who got 7 years- almost - why he got that kind of leash I will never know). Petitbon was never in Cooke's plans, but in my book he deserved one more year.
Spurrier isn't worth mentioning.

The Skins, namely Campbell have played against some awful secondaries...I don't recall him ever lighting it up.

Somehow, it's Campbell's fault even though not a single snap has been playe.....never mind. You're convinced. You know the future.

Campbell could play one of the worst games of his career and they would probably still win. Besides Calvin Johnson, a few LB's, and maybe Stafford, they have nobody on their team that is even remotely scary.

That's exactly what I'm pointing out.
Even though we should be a "better" team than most, we have tremendous problems against what are, in paper, inferior teams.
Detroit sucks. So do we.
I'm a fan and I'll root for my team every second of the game, but I'm also a realist. And reality is about to smash this team with a 10 ton brick.

Have you any argument against that opinion, Vet?
An argument based in reality? Not potential or paper?
That's what I thought so.

You want to put out an intelligent, debatable point, then maybe I'll have something to reply to. Detroit sucks, so do we is not intelligent or supported by anything but a pessimistic 'fan.'

Your argument is based on a feeling of dread, and you call him on that? You want an argument based in reality? Try looking at the Skins' record against the Lions the past, say 40 years or so.

I don't think we are Detroit bad...but to Vet point in another thread were is are MoJo when we face these team...It was a close game there last year and they smell blood in the water this week...Maybe the bad game vs. the Rams help us this week.

...any given Sunday always applies, but I don't think we're that inept. Our defense is pretty damn good and I think our offense can handle what the defense puts on 'em to win.

And yet this is so completely irrelevant to my point in every possible way. I'm talking about being the fan of a lifetime losing organization where the owner is a member of the Ford family who does this for a hobby and doesn't want to win because he'd have to pay players more and you're talking about "1 or 2 plays." I'm talking about a team that drafted a wide receiver in the top 10 picks 30 years in a row and you're talking about "1 or 2 plays." I'm talking about a team that had Matt Freaking Millen as GM and wouldn't fire him no matter how many stupid decisions he made or how many games he lost, a team that hasn't won in the last 18 games and had the first 0-16 season in the history of the NFL and you're talking about "1 or 2 plays." Had they made the "1 or 2 plays" and won that particular game, the train wreck that goes with being a fan of the team run by the Lions organization wouldn't amount to a fly inside a scratch inside a dent.

Yeah! just go back and look at what we did against the stupid secondary that the giants had to play because of injuries against our incredible passing offense in game 1
and, for further proof of what the lions are up against - check out how to defend this Redskins' passing offense in the red zone against the Rams last weekend
have we got your attention now - I'll just bet that the oddsmakers must have us at 11 to 14 point favs after what we showed the last 2 games

Right now we are a 6 point fav...let see which way that goes by the ed of the wwek.
