Who knew that when he punched Stephen Davis (back in the day) that he was practicing for his true career? I'm tripping out. Westbrook looks mighty good and seems to be an accomplished MMA fighter.
Martial arts Westbrook practiced martial arts during his football playing career, and entered Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu after retirement from the NFL in 2002. He has won national and Pan-American events as a blue and purple belt. In 2008 he won the IBJJF World Championship at purple belt.
Westbrook said of jiu-jitsu, "This is a lot easier and a lot more fun. I don't have to worry about coaches and it's not nearly as dangerous. I don't have to worry about pleasing the public and the announcers. Or getting eggs thrown at my door because I dropped a ball. I don't have to worry about any of that."[4] Having previously trained at MASH GYM in Redford, Michigan with Former "King Of The Cage" Light Heavyweight Champion James Lee, Westbook now trains at AZ Combat Sports in Tempe, Arizona.
Westbrook has also competed as a heavyweight (over 205 pounds) in mixed martial arts, defeating Jarrod Bunch in his first match in 2005.[4] In his second, and only other, professional MMA bout, Westbrook lost to Travis Browne in a February 2009 King of the Cage event in San Bernardino, California. Westbrook also fought on episode 2 of MTV's Bully Beatdown. On that episode, it was stated that Westbrook owns a black belt in taekwondo and has reached brown-belt status in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Gustavo Dantas.

That not withstanding, at the time this happened, Davis was an aspiring second year player who was not guaranteed a spot on the team, and was doing everything he could to enhance his chances... including volunteering to play as a fullback, blocking for Terry Allen, knowing that this would not only add to his skills, but to his understanding of how to be a better power back.
Stephen Davis was everything that Michael Westbrook was not. Motivated... team oriented... self-sacrificing... willing to do the dirty jobs... whatever it took to make the team.
I miss Stephen Davis.

Seriously, Michael Westbrook may have been a better player if not for that fight. People grew to hate him in the way that happens in this town, and he wasn't man enough to take it and not let it affect his play. At least that's the way I saw it.

At that time Davis was the offense. I believe he was amongst the lead leaders in rushing yards as well. I still remember the first year Spurrier came in Davis out. I always thought it was more a Spurrier move to let Davis go then it was our front office. I had heard Spurrier did not think he needed a good running back. I could be wrong but that is what I remember from those years. My memory is a little weary with those years anyhow. Just filled with anger really. The Spurrier years were just a terrible time for this franchise.

Oh yeah. One play to decide the game. That always hurts. You play good the whole game and in one play victory is taken away. Wow! Still Colorado has not really done anything since.

I agree. The way he assaulted Westbrook was just disturbing. Westbrook had no remorse. I really really always disliked Westbrook. Just his attitude and demeanor. I dont wish him any harm but really do not care for the guy.

That was the word, but I never really bought that excuse. Stephen was a salary cap casualty. If he would have taken the money here that he wound up taking in Carolina, he would have retired a Redskin.
