I feel better about our offense, including Campbell. He did over throw a couple sure touchdowns and his completion percentage wasn't that good but all in all he did much better. Wonder if Brennan did well enough to keep his job? That was a really great save by Tryon. Maybe he has actually improved as the coaches say.
Special teams needs much more work!!!
Glad there were no injuries.

Well the end of that game proves that preseason is an overhyped practice session. Zorn didn't even call time outs to try to win. But I was impressed with the way they played tonight. Defense looked solid. The offence was actually moving the ball against the Pats #1 D. So all in all a pretty good game.

If our offense looks anything like they did on the first drive tonight - watch out NFC east.

It wasn't so much the lack of timeouts that bothered me. It was calling three straight running plays and punting the ball away when there was still more that two minutes left to play.
For one thing, obviously Brennan is trying to win a job here and I think he deserved the chance to make a play to win (or lose) the game.
Even more to the point, Zorn reportedly chastised his team after the Baltimore game for not playing with a sense of urgency. So what message does it send when the coach throws in the towel instead of trying to win?
Maybe I'm nitpicking, but I was under the impression the idea behind the preseason was to rehearse winning?

They are trying to decide if they are going to use one of these 53 slots for a RB. They know they are going to keep Colt. And next week, they plan on playing a lot of Chase and Colt so that's not a problem. Let them see what they have in the RB's and go from there. I think that's the mindset.

You do realize that they won last week, right?
The difference between the Baltimore game and tonight's game is night and day.

we need to find a way to keep Marko mitchell. JC looked good, he was a lot crisper and a bit faster on the reads, the ball fake he did to get the TD was beautiful. Still though, is he trying to get Santana killed? Did 'tana do something wrong, I mean most of the passes thrown to him was high and to catch it means he's going to get hit pretty hard. Aside from rifling every pass short or long JC looked pretty good, also I think Colt did enough to earn the job. Daniels might be better (we don't know yet) but Colt's got 1 year under this system already.
all 3 RB's behind Rock looked good.
The D, wow, I mean wow. I really thought we were better than what we showed (maybe by design). Our DB's are suspect right now, maybe they are sandbagging. Dline looked average in the beginning, then the switch flipped and we were able to hold them. The Spec Teamers need work.

Why was Mason playing with the first team spelling Portis? Was Betts hurt or did they just want to see Mason play agaisnt a first team D?

Marcus Mason needs to be on this team. He looks to be the kind of guy who can lower his shoulders and get us touchdowns on the goal line.
Marko Mitchell also needs to be on this team. He can actually catch a jump ball by putting himself into position to do so.
It was good to see JC making some plays against a good defense. I just wishey could have scored on that 73yd pass play.
Colt is in serious trouble of losing his 3rd string QB position. If he gets outplayed next week, he will not make the team.
Last but not least.....It was an actual exciting game! We actually had an entertaining game. WOW. I hope they keep that up, but come out on top during the regular season.

Yeah, I agree, and they basically said that after the game. Nevertheless, Brady and Moss are arguably the best QB/WR combo in the league, so it's really not surprising that they made some plays in preseason when the team was playing vanilla. Here's what they said about that last night after the game...
"DeAngelo, has any receiver ever worn you out the way Randy was doing in the first quarter tonight?" came the question from a beat reporter Friday evening.
DeAngelo Hall smiled, and turned around to find Carlos Rogers.
"Did you hear this question?" he asked Rogers. "Listen to this."
"Has any receiver ever worn you out like Randy did early tonight?" the beat guy asked again. "We're not used to seeing you give up plays."
Hall laughed. And laughed. And laughed.
"You know, it's football," he finally said. "It's football. You know, guys get paid to throw the ball and catch it just like we get paid to stop them. The touchdown was just a double move, Tom threw a great ball inside, I couldn't get around Randy's body to break it up. But guys get paid to catch balls."
That was the party line from the secondary after they spent around a quarter getting worked over by Brady, Moss and the Pats. After 15 minutes and one play, Brady had 122 passing yards, Moss had 90 receiving yards and two scores, and the Patriots were up 14-7. Washington's secondary, though, didn't seem cowed, and the Patriots got just 55 more passing yards on the night. Much of it, to be fair, came against Kevin O'Connell, but after the second touchdown, Brady was 3-for-7 for 28 yards before leaving with a shoulder injury.
"When we started showing different looks, and he didn't know who was blitzing or how to call out the protections, that's when we started scrambling them a little bit," safety LaRon Landry said.
"We kind of changed calls a little bit, tried to get Tom a little bit of different looks, and we kind of got to him late in the first quarter early in the second quarter by switching looks up, kind of changing some things," Hall agreed. "When you go out there and just play stagnant football, I think Tom and that team is smart enough to know what's going on, so they were kind of able to expose us a little bit from that standpoint. But we came back on the sidelines, making adjustments, were were able to mix it up a little bit. And that's kind of how we were able to get off the field on some third downs and ultimately get that turnover in the third quarter."
"We didn't really bring out all our tricks, either," Fred Smoot added. "We was real vanilla with them, too, and I think we got out there and got what we wanted accomplished. We played, we competed, and we left pretty much healthy, and that's what we wanted."

After the 1st quarter, I thought Blache did a very good job adjusting the defense. It was evident. Could they have shut them down for an entire game? Who knows, it is the Patriots, Brady and Moss we're talking about. But they did make good adjustments and did shut them down a few times after those adjustments.

I don't think - I know that the defense they played in the 1st QTR was just man on man and zone d. I think the defensive coaches wanted to see how guys would react. We know that the Pat's would make plays but it was going to be who would make plays for us. I think Smoot came up big last night in the 1st half.

JC was much improved, but 90% of his passes were still high. I hope that was the humidity on the football like they kept saying. That fade on the sideline gave me chills, and if that's the JC-Moss connection we're gonna have, I'm excited.
Smoot played well. I only saw 1 or 2 plays he got burnt on, but hitting a 2 yd hitch and him having to race up to cover, I'm not really THAT concerned.
I think our secondary still needs to knock the rust off. It looked like to me that Hall gave the inside up on Moss's first TD b/c he thought he has safety help. I think with Rogers back and Smoot/Hall playin nickel, we'll be okay. I hope Landry steps up, because short of that INT, he really hasn't flashed much.
D line wasn't as impressive as I had hoped, but it is still be a work in progress. Especially our depth guys; they were getting run all over.
Last and what I'm most concerned about, WHERE THE HELL IS OUR RUN BLOCKING? Portis was snubbed. We had ZERO holes open up with the first team. I surely hope that it's there and we're focusing on catching up the pass blocking.

I'm with you - the running game with Portis was non-existent. Obviously they're playing one of the best teams in the league, but 6 carries for 8 yards is not encouraging. When healthy, they've never had problems with running, so I'm not too worried yet.
It's amazing the Campbell played as well as he did when they essentially got nothing from the running game. I don't think he was throwing too high - as I saw Moss say, he came out of college with a 40" verticle, just go up and get it. On that first deep ball, the defender grabbed Campbells shoulder - couldn't tell if that affected the throw. Moss had two drops I think...hopefully that's rust. It's really good to see guys running wide open down the field.
ey is fantastic, but I didn't think he had the speed to get 70 yards without being caught from behind. Wow. And the receivers blocking downfield.
The more I see of Colt, the less sure I am he has a strong enough arm to be effective. He and Daniel both will get lots of time next week, but I won't be shocked if Colt gets cut.
What was with all the penalties? I thought Norv had secretly returned to coach the team.
All in all, a pretty good effort. Playing even against the Patriots starters is very encouraging. With the Giants a little banged up, I'm more optimistic about the opener. They'll have to be better than last years opener.

This may seem slightly off topic, but I need to bring it up. Did anyone watch post-game live on comcast? Greg Blache is a complete ass to the media. Ive never seen a more abrasive, rude, unprofessional interview by a coach. I think Zorn or "The Dan" needs to explain to him that his profession exists only because of the fans, and the fans want these questions answered. The media are simply doing their jobs, nuff said. What a moron.

I actually don't like the idea of keeping Colt. That taking a sack when a field goal from a reasonable distance could have won us the game was frankly too raw for a high school QB with a year of experience. There's no way he hasn't been instructed not to do that about a thousand times already and to me show a serious lack of judgment and discipline.
His scrambles do not excite me. He never breaks for daylight when holes open as Campbell consistently does, but rather just runs around in the backfield looking for someone to sling a wild pass to and hope for a miracle catch. I absolute hate his style of play and don't think it will ever bring us anything but an occasional thrilling play followed by almost certain defeat.
The TD pick of his short pass was a fourteen point givaway via a first option shot to a receiver who had no daylight. The announcers were kind to him, as was Zorn. If I were Zorn, I could cut Colt today and take on
the RB who proved himself time and time again in the first half. I don't remember his name right now because I am old and stupid, but the guy has earned a spot for two years in a row now and should be given his due. Simple justice, as well as great move for the team. Both Portis and Betts are getting old. We need the guy to spell Portis and back up both Portis and Betts.
