Brandon Marshall "practices"; gets suspended

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Pro Bowl receiver Brandon Marshall, openly unhappy with the Denver Broncos, was suspended by the team Friday for unspecified "detrimental" conduct. The club did not say in its statement how long the suspension would last.

Marshall has asked for a new contract or trade and has acknowledged he hasn't learned new coach Josh McDaniels' playbook. He was held out of last Sunday's preseason game at Seattle.
During Wednesday's warmups, Marshall walked while the rest of the team ran. He punted a ball away instead of handing it to a ball boy and swatted a pass thrown to him. His actions were caught on video and broadcast by KMGH-TV.
Marshall told ESPN on Thursday night he wasn't trying to force a trade through insubordination but that frustration got the best of him.
Marshall, who had 206 receptions the past two seasons, is also upset with what he feels was the team's misdiagnosis of a hip injury that required offseason surgery. He pulled a hamstring during the first weekend of training camp and didn't return until a week ago.
The receiver apparently was held out of practice Thursday as punishment for the churlish display, but McDaniels wouldn't discuss it afterward.
"I'm not going into it," the coach said. "If they're not ready or able, they're not out here."
Marshall's agent, Kennard McGuire, didn't immediately return a phone call Friday. McGuire was out of the country until Monday.
McDaniels said Marshall didn't play against the Seahawks because he wasn't prepared to take the field.

Unfortunately Jake this isn’t true for a player of his caliber. There will be plenty of teams interested in him…I’d love to see him sit out of football for the rest of his contract though

If his attitude and actions are being accurately reported, I think it would be great if he didn't get another opportunity to play in the NFL.

Hope you aren't considering holding your breath...
As DE noted, someone in the NFL will give him a job... there's always a coach/GM who thinks "I can fix this kid".

while we don't have a GM that might think he could get Marshall back on track, we do have a couple of other guys - one that doesn't care about the trouble a player like this can cause and the other who will give him any amount of money it takes
i'm with Hoss - let's get him on Redskins 1 right away

I honestly think that there is something going on here and I don't think that this is all Brandon Marshall fault. This team has fallen apart since Josh Mc Daniels has taken over. I knew that when Jay Cutler had his problems with trust from this team, that other players where going to have the same issues and I believe that Brandon won't be the last player to have a problem with this team

I agree with you. His behavior is certainly unprofessional, but the organization made a host of terrible decisions in firing Shannahan and his staff. And McDaniels just strikes me as smug and arrogant. I think the Broncos are in a race to the bottom right now, and Orton is just between a rock and a hard place. The fans are going to hate on him when it should be management.
Kyle Orton officially has the worst QB job in the NFL right now, and Marshall wants out ANY WAY HE CAN GET IT.

I am not so quick to bash Marshall.
Look at all that has happened in the off season.
A brand new head coach. One who is practically a baby. Comes in to town. First thing he does is get rid of the franchise QB.
It is hard enough for a veteran coach to get respect. Let alone a kid?
At the same time he is not happy with his contract.
I dont blame the guy at all.
Just imagine your long time boss who you are used to gets fired. At the same time you are underpaid and have been asking for a raise. You still do not get it.
Your company hires a new boss. He is a kid half your age. No experience but he is made to be your boss. First thing he does is fire the most productive guy in the company. The guy in the company who makes everyone laugh during work.
Then the new boss decides to change the way things work around here.
A young unproven kid trying to get respect.
Sorry but it is easier said then done.
Bottom line is Marshall has been one of the more productive Receivers in this league. He gets his job done. He is productive.
I would still trade a first round pick for Marshall anyday of the week. He is that good.

I hope this team is not going to continue to make stupid mistakes
part of the reason we have a mediocre record each year is because in the past the people in charge just added talent and not players who make the team better
we still have some issues and hopefully we will learn more about what we need next year and beyond through seeing how this year transpires - thinking "we only need a couple of players" is the formula of the mediocre teams

Hero, I'll have to disagree with you on your opinion bro. Your arguments are well proven but lets be frank here.. the guy is on the last year of his contract right?, he still has a job to do and he's acting like a straight up punk. I mean come on man, punting the ball away instead of giving it to the ballkid? I mean the ballkid dude? his only job is to retrieve balls and marshall is being a you know what to him??? The only thing he's proving is that he doesn't like authority. I'm in a job and if my boss is gone, I'll have to work with my new.. they aren't going to move me just because I don't like him/her ya know? Yes I know NFL is not like day to day jobs but I think you get my drift. Would I like B. Marshall here? Yea I would actually since he's a stud WR but look at the comments his teammates made saying they agree with the suspensions and how tired they are of his nonsense. Sorry bro, but if that's his attitude, he can keep it and I'll take my chances with Santana, Kelly, Thomas, ARE, Mitchell... at least we know they believe in team first.

He'll leave and play awesome for someone. Some of yall put too much stock in his foolery. Sure it's not the way to act but it'll be water under the bridge. Look at Cutler... Nobody in Chi cares wut happened during the offseason cus he's looking might awesome at QB.

And as one of those TV talking heads said last night, if Shanahan was still coach would Cutler be with the Bears right now? Nope. Same holds true for Masrahall I reckon. Sure, there is plenty of blame for those two players but the Broncos organisation is pretty culpable in this too, perhaps more so.
Anyway, as CLL says, what do I care? We've got Cutler and he's looking good.

I can definatley see your point of view. Just wanted people to see things on the other side of the spectrum.

True that my man.. I heard on the radio that more denver players are having issues with the new coach. It hasn't gotten out there cause those same players aren't doing the dumb stuff like Marshall. Gosh, this dude is wasting such good talent. Him and Eddie Royal would help Orton a whole lot.

People said similar things about Haynesworth when he stomped face and look where we are now.

I'm not condoning his behavior but have you seen Kyle Orton play this year? Receivers get paid based on their production and downgrading from Cutler to Orton will negatively impact those numbers. Fewer catches and fewer touchdowns = lower potential future earnings. And he has to look at the sideline and see the guy who chased a franchise QB out of town.
Again, the behavior is sophomoric but it's not totally unjustified either.

The Broncos management totally fouled up giving so much power to a young and smug O-Coordinator. And McDaniels came in there with that "There's a new sherif in town" attitude. I watched a couple of interviews with him, and he was truly a grinning little schmuck. I can only imagine if he displays that type of image in front of the media what he must be like behind the curtain with the players?
The bottom line is that Cutler really is one of just a rare few "Franchise" level QBs in the league, and NOBODY trades away their YOUNG Pro Bowl QB. NOBODY except a smug, inexperienced little egomaniac who hasn't proven anything except how badly he can screw up before his car even cooled off in the parking lot.
Now, McDaniels didn't do this all on his own. This had to be sanctioned by the owner. But I dare say that McDaniels sold Denver a bill of goods on Cassel, and the extreme reaction to this bone headedness should have been easily anticipated.
I don't think Al Davis, as crazy as he has become, would have done what Denver has.
