Who will be the Final 53?

Redskins.com is saying the Skins have few questions about the final roster, they're also saying "our talent rich" roster "leads the NFC" while they ponder whether or not Jason Campbell is a "franchise QB"... I mean, I love the Redskins, but what a bunch of nonsense. Let's not drool over the team just yet.

QB (3)-

Jason Campbell is entrenched as the starter and it seems Collins is going to be his backup (which I think is a mistake.) Then Colt and Daniel are going to duke it out to the wire to see who's 3rd string.

RB (3)-

Portis and Betts will be used more as a 1-2 punch this season and Cartwright is a good 3rd guy and returner. Mason will probably not make the team, though we did have to dig pretty deep for a RB last season.

FB (2)-

Sellers is back and as a draft pick Eddie Williams looks like he has a shot as a backup.

WR (5)-

Moss, Kelly, Randle El, and Thomas are locks and I think Marko Mitchell is the guy here. Hackett looks like he knows the offense so maybe they go with 6 but no more.

TE (3)-

Cooley, Davis and Yoder is nearly a no-brainer unless they cut Yoder which they may to carry Williams.

OL (9)-

Samuels, Dockery, Rabach, Thomas and Heyer are definite starters with probably Bridges, M Williams, E Williams and Rinehart as backups.

DL (9)-

Daniels, Griffin, Haynesworth, and Carter are locks. Golston and Monty are backups for the DT's and Jarmon, Wynn and Alexander can join the rotation as well.

LB (6)-

Orakpo, Fletcher and McIntosh lead the way with Wilson, Blades and Thomas backing them up.

CB (5)-

Hall and Rogers are locks. So is Smoot. Tryon and Barnes can round out the CB's.

S (4)-

Horton, Landry, Doughty and Moore. That's not a bad group.

ST (3)-

Smith, Suisham and the Red Snapper (Albright).

That's 52 guys right there. Say we release Yoder and keep Hackett and one of the LB projects (Glenn or Henson) and I think we've got a really good team.

One alilbi..I don't think we keep two FBs on the active roster. Rook hits the practice squad which leaves 51.

That leaves the possibility of 4 RBs, but I doubt it. I really haven't seen too much out of anyone else.

Westbrook has improved, but I don't know if it's enough to warrant a roster spot. I also recall hearing Grant's name more than once (DB).Dixon we can consider, but he prob hits the practice squad.

Does Wynn beat out Buzbee? I haven't heard either's name this pre-season.

I think your list is right on... I think the last spot could still be that quick change of pace "Sproles" type back we were looking for like Dorsey... Mason is probably still on the outside looking in, and Alridge is done if he can't get on the field... whoever it is their obviously going to have to be able to return kicks or cover kicks, or both...

Buzbee had a sack, if I remember correctly.

I also think the list is pretty accurate....and I also think we will go with a 4th RB either Mason or Dorsey. I could also see us cutting Wynn in favor of going with a 6th WR and that guy being Hackett. The reason for this is the 4 definites (Moss, Kelly, Thomas, ARE) have not proven to be very durable.

Will Montgomery Makes the team. He is the back up at center and unless he gets knicked up and we bring back Pete Kendall, Will Montgomery will make the team at C.

I also don't think we will keep two active full backs on the roster.

If we keep 6 wideouts it won't be Hackett and Marko because neither play special teams well. Hackett doesn't at all and Marko is just learning, so that spot would have to go to a special teams ace.

So I think that spot could go anywhere to the best special teams player, whether its Dorsey on returns, one of the safeties or westbrook, or a linebacker on coverage.

If we keep 6 WRs, I would imagine that both or at least 1 are here  - who are the other 2 WRs that you would keep with ARE, Kelly, Moss and Thomas?

I remember Joe Bugel saying they will keep 10 OL on the active roster.

I'd be pretty upset if they keep Wynn over Buzbee. I mean, we already have Daniels, Carter, and Griffin as the veteran presense. We don't need another old guy who is way passed his prime.

I'd prefer we keep Rob Jackson over both of them. Also, in regards to an extra o-lineman, Lorenzo Alexander has shown the he's very versatile too so we can keep a young o-lineman on ps and give another place to another position.

Jackson hasn't really shown much to warrant getting a roster spot.

I thought I read that Alexander has been awarded to the defense.

Washington Times is reporting that Will Montgomery is a "near lock" to make the team. If this is the case, then Rinehart is gone.

Dude, you've got to be kidding, right? Marko (and Orapko) have been the highlight of the pre season so far. The guy has good hands and is a BIG dude (red zone). I know some will say we already have 2 biggies, but so far they have not done much to establish their "cred."

Screw TEAMS. I know we'd like to have someone help in this regard, but I dont see R Moss, Owens or Fitzgerald playing TEAMS.

I see potential in the kid. So let's stay with him and see him flurish during the season

How do you figure? I say Reinhart is more of a lock than Montgomery.

Monty would be a backup center, Rinehart was a 3rd rounder a couple seasons ago. No way he's released. He's a lock to make the team.

After watching the third Preseason game, here is who I think (hope) makes the final 53.

QB: (3) Campbell, Collins, Brennan (I think they gamble that Chase will slip to their PS and that they get one more year to make this decision)

RB: (4) Portis, Betts, Mason, Alridge

FB: (1) Sellers

WR: (5) Moss, Kelly, Randel El, Thomas, Mitchell

TE: (3) Cooley, Davis, Yoder (but I'd like them to go with Agnone for youth)

OL: (10) Samuels, Dockery, Rabach, Thomas, Heyer, Bridges, Rinehart, Montgomery, M. Williams, E. Williams

DL: (8 ) Carter, Haynesworth, Griffin, Daniels, Alexander, Golston, Montgomery, Jarmon

LB: (6) McIntosh, Fletcher, Orakpo, Blades, Wilson, Thomas

CB: (5) Rodgers, Hall, Smoot, Tryon, Barnes

Safety: (4) Landry, Horton, Doughty, Moore

Teams: (4) Albright, Suisham, Smith, Cartwright (lets face it, he's not a RB for this team)

edit: Forgot Montgomery on DL; dropped Jackson

Pretty good list. I'd be shocked if they keep both Alridge and Mason - that's 5 RB's including Rock. I am rooting for Mason to make the team. More likely to keep a linebacker who is a special teams demon than a 5th RB, I think.

Special Teams - Smith. Took me a second. I thought his last name was "Punter" :)

The more comfortable choices IMO:

QB: (2) Campbell, Collins

RB: (2) Portis, Betts

FB: (1) Sellers

WR: (4) Moss, Kelly, Randall El, Thomas

TE: (3) Cooley, Davis, Yoder

OL: (7) Samuels, Dockery, Rabach, Thomas, Heyer, Bridges, Reinhart

DL: (7 ) Carter, Haynesworth, Griffin, Daniels, Alexander, Golston, Montgomery

LB: (5) McIntosh, Fletcher, Orakpo, Blades, Wilson

CB: (5) Rodgers, Hall, Smoot, Tryon, Barnes

Safety: (4) Landry, Horton, Doughty, Moore

Teams: (3) Albright, Suisham, Smith

That's 43, leaving 10.

Need 1 QB, between Brennan and Daniel
1-2 RB between Cartwright, Mason, Alridge and Dorsey
1-2 WR between Mitchell, Hackett, Hagans, Eloi, Shelton
2-3 OL between M. Williams, Montgomery, E. Williams, Clark, Batiste
2-3 DL between Wynn, Jarmon, Jackson, Dixon, Buzbee, Skolnitsky
1-2 LB between Fincher, Thomas, Henson, Glenn

Depending on above, could also add a FB or TE from Williams, Agnone

I think the following:

QB: Brennan
RB: Alridge
WR: Mitchell
OL: Montgomery, M. Williams, Clark
DL: Jarmon, Dixon
LB: Fincher, Thomas

Alridge can do KR and PR, which gets him the RB spot over Mason who is a better RB but is more like CP and LB in style and not a returns guy. I think he gets the spot over Dorsey because of his NFL experience. Cartwright loses out to youth and greater flexibility, unfortunately. This changes if ST coaches are not happy with the ST blocking and tackling and Cartwright has to be kept for that reason. Then we have Cartwright and Randle El on KR and PR again this year.

I don't think Rock goes anywhere, regardless of who they keep otherwise. They don't have anyone else proven as a kick returner. I could see them giving someone else the duties and replacing Rock next year, but it doesn't make sense to go into the season without a proven guy who can catch the ball and not fumble on returns. I'm hoping for Mason over Alridge, but that's based on seeing Mason play for the last two preseasons, not on any judgement about ability.

Good list overall, but we won't keep 5 rb'S. Mason is gone.
I think we'll only keep 9 OL's, either W. Montgomery or Edwin Williams is gone (Williams to PS?)
I think we keep a 7th LB since 2 of ours will also see time at DE, My guess is Glenn is the 7th.

A few interesting names of players and comments from the team have popped up recently.

Undrafted LB Darell Young has impressed and very well could make the team.

Vinny made some leading or suggestive comments yesterday about who might make the team. He mentioned Mike Williams when commenting on o-line depth and said there's a good chance of keeping five running backs on the roster.

Gone:
Chase is gone, I think.
Westbrook tried, but he won't make it
Tryon.....not so sure
Glenn is gone
Eloi, and many other receivers are done (except Marko)
Aldridge is done

Tribe -- nothing personal, just wanted to keep the board from being cluttered with similar topics. We'll try to keep the cut predictions in this thread.

I'm not sure I agree with your list though. I think Chase and Alridge have a legitimate shot. I think the team will keep five CB's, so Tryon and Barnes should be good to go, in my opinion.

I'm kinda interested in positions like DE and LB. What will happen with Wynn, Rob Jackson and Buzbee. At LB, you have to consider guys like Thomas, Young and Henson.
