Dallas' new stadium- can't measure?

So who is the genius who couldn't figure out that the big teletron hung to low? I mean seriously, no one took into account how high a punter can punt the ball? JJ spent 1.2 Billion on a stadium that has a defunktifed obstacle in the middle of the field. Way to go cowturd. How many times are punts going to have to be redone, because of the ball bouncing off of the very non ecofriendly boob tube?

I hate to say it but that stadium looks amazing. Too bad you can't get a ticket unless you're rich.

It really is a beautiful stadium... but if you can't punt in it, can you play football?

I like that Jerrah has now become an expert on punting and punt trajectory:
"You don't need to [move it]," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said. "I mean this very much because most of your punts go to the sidelines, and you've got to be trying to hit it to bump it. You really do."
http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2009/08/22/vide ... w-stadium/
Also, as an editor, "I mean this very much"? It sounds like he learned English about 6 weeks ago.

If it's even possible that it might get hit in the normal course of play, they should move it. No team should have to rekick because the builders made a mistake like that.

Actually, I hate to give the guy credit, but Jones did something really cool. Since the stadium has a lot of walkways with open views of the playing field, he will be selling
standing room only tickets for $29. So if you can't afford a seat...at least you can go to the game and watch from one of the concourses/walkways.
With 180,000 square feet (17,000 square meters) of free space, the stadium can accommodate more standing-room-only fans than any other NFL venue. The open areas are behind seats in each end zone and on a series of six elevated platforms connected by stairways.

They should tear it down and start over...
Have they torn down Texas Stadium, yet? Maybe Dallas could play their games there.
This has the potential to provide year long entertainment!

I'm not a fan of Colin Cowherd, but he made a very interesting point about the Pies new stadium. Colin said the stadium could become one of the quietest in the league. Teams needs stadiums and fans to be loud, but Jones has ignored that aspect in the design.
He said Jones has made it so expensive, it prices out the blue collar job guy and caters to the career guy and corporations. Career guy takes clients to the games, while job guy takes his buddies. Career guy, with his clients and corporate friends, don't make much noise. Job guy, with his buddies and pals... screams, yells, boos and makes lots of noise.
Another aspect that will detract from the noise factor is the design of the stadium itself. The concourse is so fancy and extravagant, game goers will spend more time away from their seats. The stadium has many upscale bars, lounges and things like an art museum, which keeps people out of their seats and walking around.
Colin used some other venues as examples of arenas that have become quite due to the extravagant designs, and I think he has an interesting perspective. Will it become evident in wins and losses? Who knows. But the argument can be made that louder stadiums tend to inspire and motivate their teams.

The world's largest Jumbotron HD has the potential to keep that massive crowd in a frenzy which is a competitive advantage (see SkinsSeahawksplayoffs) and the fact that its so low means less hang time for punts and better field position for offenses esp late in games. That stadium presents a immense challenge for our men.

Doesn't it cut both ways?

Seems Jerrah also out did the rest of the league when it comes to obstructed view seating.
We've already covered the new Cowboys Stadium's opulent luxury, from the $40 million scoreboard to the $60 pizzas. How about $75 seats where you can only see one-third of the playing field? Thank you, Jerry Jones for all your blessings!

Leave it there! As long as the punters keep hitting it, it will cost them a fortune having to fix the thing every couple of weeks!

Yes, but the home team is more used to it and learn to adapt more effectively. The Red Wings, my hockey team, are known for live boards on rebounds. The goalie, Chris Osgood, hates them of course. But he's a lot more used to them then the visitors so the Wings definitely do better. Even in saying he hates them he says how when he sees a shot go wide he goes right to the appropriate corner of the net.
Other goalies have to remember to do that in Detroit and just do it less automatically. The Wings players also shoot for the rebounds and go to the front of the net, other teams need to remember to do that, it's just not going to be as fast when it's one of many arenas you visit versus where you play your home games.

Why doesn't the commissioner tell Jerry Jones that he can leave the jumbotron where it is, but for every punt that hits it, Jerry will have to pay the punter who hit it $20k.

But you don't get a home-field advantage if the punter is forced to rekick a ball that hits the Jerrah-tron. If it happens with any regularity, I can see the NFL forcing him to move, or even remove, it.

Because the NFL approved the design of the stadium and also the placement of the jumbotron. So they are just as dumb as good old Jerry.

i think its crap that jerry made a such a mistake that not only impacts his team but the rest of the NFC east. in no way should the NFL and by extension the rest of the teams be forced to help him pay for his mistake.

I'm as big a detractor of Jerrah as anybody, and I find his intractability on moving the TV to be unbelievable, but the NFL
did sign off on the design, and the stadium was built within league specifications, so Jerrah does not hold all the liability for this fiasco. That said, it is going to have to be moved. Rekicking punts is not an option, especially during a SB.

Hey, but if they don't move it, that will make a great excuse for not having the SB there!
I didn't even think about that part of it!

Jerry is going to milk this thing as long as he can. It brings attention to his baby.
I read U2 is paying 2 million to move it so they can have their concert there so why wouldnt they just leave it if someone else is willing to pay to move it?

Yeah that's what i've heard too. There have been talks of raising that damn jumbotron after the U2 concert, which is sometime in Mid October.

Just read the NFL's decision about the video boards - I must admit they sound like a fantastic addition - they are 180 feet long and run between the 20 yard lines

- that is amazing.
anyway the league is going to see if these things are a factor and have handed down guidelines for this season only - they will not let them affect a superbowl game for sure

I think that decision sucks. If the officials miss it, you have to use one of your challenges. I don't care who pays for it, the thing needs to be moved.

It should absolutely be moved. Our punter's punts are high and will be affected. While McBriar (ttit's punter) will be acclimated. Not to mention the clostrophobic atmosphere it will create during a sold out game such as dal v WSH; and the hail mary factor, I don't like it all, Goodell is not the commissioner Jones is obviously
