Who is better? Kobe Bryant or Michael Jordan

Post by HEROHAMO »

Lately I have been coming home after work and spending some time on youtube battling out my point of views to the younger generation. Personally I think MJ is the greatest basketball player and maybe the greatest athlete ever. Go ahead and give me your point of view.

My argument goes like this in a nutshell.

Kobe Bryant may have acquired most of the same skills Michael Jordan had.
As far as the intangibles are concerned? MJ was a far better leader and competitor. MJs leadership trumps Kobes. That is the main reason he is better then Kobe or was.

Not once have I ever watched Kobe Bryant, and afterwards sit, mouth agape in astonishment saying aloud "did he just (insert incredible athletic feat here)?"

Why? Because MJ had already done it.

Kobe is a great player, and like MJ he's a really lethal closer. However, take whatever skills Kobe has, and make them better. That's MJ.

I agree with your sentiment. Kobe will be remembered as one of the greatest basketball players of all time, but Jordan IS the greatest of all time.

Jordan without a shadow of a doubt.

The Sports Junkies talked about this exact same argument about a month back... go to the June 4th podcast and listen to segments 5,6, and 7.

If anyone picks Kobe, it has to be people that are 18 or under.

I guess most of us agree. Really no debate here then.

I first thought so too Tinco... but I can almost promise the next generation (our kids or grandkids) would probably say Kobe or maybe even Lebron (assuming he wins the big ones). I remember when I was young and Jordan had just started his ridiculously sick career some older folks would say those names like.. Walt, Dr. J, etc... Guess we'll wait and see but as of right now... JORDAN!!!

Watching Jordan play reminded me of when I was in grade school trying to tackle or otherwise outmuscle my dad...it just didn't happen. There will never be another Jordan in our lifetime I don't think.

Jordan is the best, ever. Not only Kobe is not even a top 5 all-time player, his defense is no where near as good as Jordan's was .... though I will say I never saw Jordan drop 81 on anyone ... which is fortunate because, if he did, it would have been against the Cavs.

Jordan was better than Kobe is right now, but it's close, in my opinion. Kobe may end up being better when it's all said and done.

No, it's not close, Kobe isn't half the defender Jordan was. Kobe does not make the players around him better, it's not even a contest.
