until our first preseason game. I know "its only preseason," but I like any kind of Redskins football + watching the guys trying to make the team strut their stuff. I might even make it back out to Ashburn this year to watch the Redskins training camp this year (hopefully no one blows out their ACL this year). BTW, training camp is only 17 days away!

I know... I'm getting excited! I don't have high expectations for this team this year but I'm just glad that Redskins football is coming back.
This stretch of May-July is arguably the WORST in regards to sports. I'm so happy football is just around the corner. The sad part is that it seems like it's over in the blink of an eye every year.

Not if we're there through at least mid-January this year!
I will be at the B-More game so it will definitely be a very interesting way to start off the year.

The shortness of the football season is a blessing and a curse. The blessing is that every game counts, I am only unavailable for 20-24 days out of the year, and I don't get bored of watching soooo maaaaany games like baseball. The curse is that every game counts and if you lose 2 in a row it kills you and you have to wait a week or more to hopefully get revenge.

I can't rationalize this anymore - I have my annual gut feeling that this will be the year the Skins bounce back. I know there is no rational reason to feel this way but I do and Dr. Phil tells me that I need to embrace and accept that.

I expect them to go 7-9, this is so I'm not let down when it happens. LOL If they do better, I can be pleasantly surprised.

So you actually think our team is WORSE than last year... I thought we got rid of the nega-CLL...

I've learned that what I think doesn't matter. I have conditioned myself to expect underachievement so that I'm not depressed by week 10. I care too much and it effects me.

You know me...I can't be Super Bowl bound every year, but I have a positive expectation for our 'skins every year!

Then a season like last year's 6-2, or Norv's 7-1 start happens, and throws your paradigm right out the window.

Just curious folks.. besides winning the superbowl, how far in *assuming we get in the playoffs* would be a real good season.. 2nd round of playoffs? making the NFC championship? or just making it to the SB? My cousin and I were debating/arguing this last night. I told him that I'd be very happy if we got out of the 1st or 2nd round. He said he won't accept nothing but a SB ring. Now I know how we all are here, we all have high expectations.. SB, well anything is possible *see last years Cardinals* and our squad looks to fit the part.. your thoughts?

Honestly, I see the team in a pseudo-rebuild mode. We've installed a new passing game (2nd year this year). We have a new HC. I believe our D has the pieces it needs, but the offense, since we changed O coordinators/schemes, could take anothe ryear or two.
So, with that said, I am not necessarily looking at W/L records (although I expect to be above .500 for the 2nd year of implementation), but rather solidifying the offensive production. I want to see the offense improve noticeably and statistically.

Good points Vet, looking forward to that offense putting up some good numbers

I'm like a lot of others here at this time of year - we all look for the best from our team - I have just been so disapointed so many years in a row where I just feel that the team is better than the record or their stats would indicate. In my opinion we just seem to have become a team that does not seem to play well or with the same intensity as a lot of the other more successful teams
I am hopeful but really think we have a year or 2 more to get this offense 'fixed' and working - I am hoping that Campbell can be a big time QB but I also think he's just a good QB not a great one.
I'm thinking 7-9 but I think that 9-7 is do-able - most importantly to me this year is not so much about the stats or the record but I hope we see some big progress from a number of our younger players
I do not care what the record is, I am most concerned that unless Jim Zorn shows he cannot be a good NFL coach that he be given a decent chance here and I am very concerned that the stupid bozos managing this team (if that is what they do) will fall prey to thinking they just need a better coach because there are going to be a few 'available' next year

Don't forget we're all fans here so improvements in our team is what we're looking for. I value everyone's opinion but it really DOES matter what our record is at the end of the year. Don't forget that we will be judged ultimately by our record in the NFL and if we do go 7-9, 6-10 or even worse (please no).. do you really think Danny would say "well, at least our young guys are playing better"? I don't think so.. but I do agree with you all that we do need better production from our offense.

what if we go 9-7 and play okay but are 3rd or 4th in the NFC East
I understand your point lpj and we are looking to improve and hopefully the final standings and the stats will indicate we are getting better - I am just a little concerned that while we are a team looking to rebuild and hoping to be a contender in the NFC East again, the bottom line however is that there are going to be a lot of coaches with big reputations available and unless Zorn shows he's not able to be an NFL coach I hope that we don't bring in someone who's more interested in some of Dan's money than making our team better.
I really like Zorn and hope he's here to make this franchise great again but he's in for a tough time if he thinks that Snyder will stick with him if we are not just better but significantly better.
Then, next year, everyone can just go back to the same excuse we have here "it's just his first season ... " and "we have to give him time ..... " ... etc... etc... or the really great excuse "our QB just needs some time with this system/coach/receivers ...." etc .. etc .. etc ..

Well, I believe the most important game eacch season is the last one played. That can be a good indicator of the team's general health.
Take for example the squads of 2005 and 2007. Everyone can agree thay accomplished something extraordinary just by sneaking into the playoffs, but, honestly, no one expected them to be competitive entering the next season. At least not with an obligatory change at QB, where much needed to be developed.
Take, in contrast, the team that finished the 2001 season, the only one that Marty coached in DC. Even though the team did not make the playoffs, there was a general feeling that good things were about to happen. I mean, if you can finish 8-8 with Tony Banks as your QB after starting 0-5, then succes cannot be that far away given that the team had a solid D and a great power running game.
As for the upcomming season, as Vet said, I also think the team is "pseudo rebuilding", at least in key areas, such as the Oline, LBs, and WRs corps, all of which makes beating contenders something of an upset. Having said that, it's going to be hard to have a spectacular season.

Last year we finished 1-4 - it's not so much that we lost 4 games but we lost to the Bengals and 49ers whose defenses were ranked much lower than ours and even worse we had trouble beating the Rams (28th defense) and the Lions (32nd defense) - we need a team that wins all of the games that we're meant to win and sometimes beats the teams we are meant to lose to

My hopes are:
1) A wining record.
2) make the playoffs &
3) Win a playoff game.
If we accomplish those 3 things, I will be happy.

I don't want to make it in the playoffs, then lose. If we make it that far, then I'm going full homer and SuperBowl or bust. Look what that mentality has done for the Eagles.

So much trouble, in fact, that we lost the game.

I seriously doubt that the was the mentality of the eagles players.
