I really think this is the prudent way to run the draft. We get a good player and we get picks, added bonus..Taylor plays in AFC.

My only concern is about Udeze. I hope he lives up to his potential.

I can't imagine Wilfork fallng all the way to 23rd and Starks going ahead of Wilfork. I still think the Skins stay put at 5 and pick Taylor.

That would be great a top pass rusher and extra picks.

I agree - but I don't necessarily think Udeze is the only answer - we still need beef in the middle and Wilfork or Starks would be good here, maybe even dropping to 15th to still get them and pick up another pick...

Then there is Will Smith to look at as well

I can't see us taking an End.
Not when we already have Wynn, Upshaw, Daniels and the much expected occasional turn out of LaVar and/or Washington on the end.

If we went a little further, got a tackle and more/higher extra picks, I'd go for the trade down.

Is Udeze definitely better than Will Smith? I saw a lot more of Smith at OSU than Udeze and I think he's an animal.

I would rather have Sean Taylor.

Sean Taylor is too valuable to pass up for a the 10th overall and a couple of later picks. A top 5 pick is worth more than that. They better back up the Brinx truck to make a deal to get in the Top 5. Add to that the fact the Browns don't take Roethlisberger??? Mock's are tough - but I don't buy this one.

I like this! We should defintely take Kenechi Udeze with the 10th pick! He is a beast! 16.5 sacks last year!!! He is exactly what we need! A pass rushing DE!! Hail to the Redskins!

Sean Taylors are rare. If we don't get him we will have an average to below average safety for years. There's no D-linemen in the draft that are like Julius Peppers. Tradeing down isn't wise. Very rarely does 3rd and 4th round picks turn up to be impact players from the start. Hell, they will probalbly end up in NFL Europe. It will really suck if we trade down and get Udeze and he has only 3 sacks for the year and doesn't live up to expectations. Then watching sportscenter highlights and seeing Sean Taylor punishing receivers in Houston. For our D-line, we should pick up someone in FA, or wait till June 1st. Then just go through the season and see how it goes. If our D-line doesn't improve due to Greg Williams and our better coaching staff, we can focus on the D-line during 2005's draft and FA period. At least we'll have Taylor.

I disagree Brandon - the Dline is crucial. It has been proven too many times by too many teams. We were a lot better vs. the pass than the run - we had "one of the top cover corners" in the league and we got burnt all over the place due to not stopping the run or rushing the passer.

A safety is not as much of a concern as a defensive tackle that can make a difference in every aspect of the game. Wouldn't you hate to see Taylor show up out of shape, hold out due to his ego, and then not even beat Bowen or Ohalete out of a job - then see Wilfork crushing running backs or Udeze eating QBs for lunch?

It is all pure speculation in my opinion. There isn't much on the FA market now as far as reliable DTs or DEs - they are all gone. Joe rated everyone in FA and they went after Griffin and Daniels and passed on Kearse, Wistrom and Berry for some reason. If we could get a 325 pound DT that can not only stuff the run next to Griffin, demand double teams and make the ends jobs easier but also push on the pocket from the inside of the line... he can affect the entire game. It makes the secondary better (less time to throw the ball), it makes the LBs better (when they don't have OL hitting them as they move to make a play due to having to handle a horse in the middle).

I wouldn't say building a very good DL for several years to come would be unwise. Taylor, depending on how he shapes up could be.

It is certainly easier against college WR and QBs, 96% of whom never smell an NFL contract - not even as third stringers then it is against double and triple teams in the interior. I don't care if the talent level isn't there - trying to move 600-900 pounds of men is daggone punishing work. Yet Wilfork and Starks did it. Consistently.

Wilfork also got his weight under control and worked hard for his pro day and looked better than ever. Taylor, according to at least SIX reports I have read, showed up heavy, out of shape, making excuses, quit halfway through and looked like a problem child.

I at least question the intelligence level of someone who does that kinda stuff - it would be like me showing up for a sales job interview in bib overalls with my hair not combed, my teeth not brushed and not wearing deodorant.

I know there were some very disgusted scouts at the Miami pro day.

Taylor would be a great fit and he's defenitely the best player in the draft, but the best Defenses start with the line. I hope we can bolster our Line now and still get Taylor or even Winslow. We have to upgrade our D-Line frst, unless Williams and Gibbs are content with what we have now and who we are making offers to.

I see your point. I wouldn't mind getting a D-linemen in this years draft if there was someone like Julius Peppers, but there isn't. I'm just going by what I heard and read over the last few months, but in regards to Udeze, they said he played alot against weak O-lines. I know we need to look at our D-line, but I just don't see a Kearse in the draft. The way things are going in FA, it seems we maybe going to a 3-4 defense considering all the LB's we're talking to. I look at how Roy Williams of Dallas enhances their defense and I want the same for us.
