QB is JC's no matter what....

The Offense is set to start JC.
The offense is set for starter at running back (Portis)
The offense is set for starter at #1 WR, not #2 WR (MOSS#1, ??? #2 )
The O line is set all except the Right Tackle spot.(Samuels LT, Dockary LG, Rabach C, Thomas RG, ?????RT)
And there is no question who the tight end will be (Cooley)
and the fullback is set (Sellars)
What summer time / Preseason competition will prove to put the team into the playoffs and # 1 in the division???
I know this poll is only the offense and only those positions but those two positions have given the offense problems all of last year.
Anybody know anymore key competition ie defense or special teams that might get them in the playoffs and on the way to a superbowl? It should be something to watch all summer.

I think Jansen is going to be the guy at RT this season, and I think he will do well, as long as he stays healthy.
I'm hoping that D. Thomas will start the season as the #3 (slot) reciever and work his way up to swap positions with Randel El at #2.

ARE gets the nod to start at # 2, I think thet will happen.
Thomas should get plenty of looks out there this summer. I don't know if he could push past ARE to start the season or if this offense is ready for that yet yet.
Thomas, if he does well may surpass ARE on the depth chart in the Two WR sets by game 4, it will make for a more productive quick passing game so lomg as everything clicks.
Alot of the offense will come together via the line play and JC's ability to throw the quick passes accuratly. That I think coupled with the run will create some deep balls to stretch the field alittle.
I never seen ARE go deep much he does not seem to fit that role.

I have high hopes that one of the two rookies will push for the number two WR slot. I think we need it.

I understand being positive and all. But, what makes you think the competition between right tackle and number two receiver is going to determine the Redskins being in the playoffs?
If JC stinks it up? It will not matter who is playing RT or Wide receiver.
Also I just do not like ARE as a starter for this team. I much rather test out Kelly and Thomas since we drafted the rookies in the second round. We might as well see what the young guys can do.
I put more of the blame of last year on Jason Campbell. There were many times when he had time and just made the wrong descision. The quarterback position is the one which will determine our fate next season.

I remember in Zorn's first press conf. as head coach he called Randle El the classic slot reciever, that's how we would ideally utilize EL, of course we were banking on higher character than Devin Thomas to emerge at WR #2

Just seems that JC had decent numbers last year and if the skins improve one of if not both of those positions then he will be that much better. The play calling and rythmn of the offense will be better. I saw in the second half of the season the defenses taking over games due primarily to the play of the oline and reciever play. The QB position is not changing it is going to be JC's,
The oline will play better as a group pass blockng and run blocking this year, The right tackle spot is in question. Heyer is stepping into an offensive line that has improved intior lineman, Jansen too.
The recievers are a year older and wiser, Thomas is a great athlete and can create after the catch and I hope gets open.
I think with the two positions being sured up JC will only improve without them then sure he will have to improve and to overcome the lack of protection and solid line play and a reciever that lacks the ability to make big plays in the open field. As long as The skins get the same play out of the line and recievers this year then I do not see JC making them that much better.

I was watching the NFL Network today and they had a segment on the Redskins and Campbell. One of the things they showed was that JC did not throw to downfield receivers in critical situations. In some of the segments, JC threw to the only open receiver in others, there were open receivers downfield.
Maybe a second year in Zorn's system will change him but I doubt it.

so then when we play better at qb that will help. who is your favortie to start at right tackle and would it not help for JC to have a better target, I suppose the offense is good so long as he throws 4 passes every six quarters extra instead of his usual pump fake tuck and run. I hope so to, It will be nice if he hits Kelly or Thomas on some of those this year.
I agree JC will start I also agree that the improvments at the online will be the key that is because JC is starting.
My main point is to hope the better line will improve the overall passing game. I also hope to count on the pass catchers to catch.
My vote for the most important competetion of the preseason is RT.
If Jason Does not let it fly on some of the crucial downfield passes then yea that is going to make it a little difficult. not impossible.

Question: Is there a feeling at Redskins Park that there is an open competition at starting quarterback or is it Jason Campbell’s job no matter what?
-- Jerimy C.
Gary: This is really another Colt Brennan question. The answer: it’s Campbell’s job no matter what. I’ve said it before: the only way Brennan sees regular season playing time in 2009 is if Campbell and Todd Collins suffer serious injuries or are spectacularly bad.
This is from the mail bag from redskins.com
I just look foward to Jansen layin it down again for the Skins this year he has been good over the last 10 years if he can get it done
Man would that be nice.
I guess you can't bring back the mans youth....It would be sweet to if the new wideouts get the ball at least 35-50 times Thomas or Kelly either one.
Appearantly they do not have Thomas competing to return punts either. Seems like it would be nice to see him or Kelly play not to mention Davis, I hope the two tight end sets make it too, anyways, Like stated before this is the #2 season of the Zorn experience who knows what will happen they even have mentioned hall coming from the defense to give it a go.

That's because he doesn't throw the long ball well. So he is very tentative about throwing deep, and more often than not, he will dump it off to

ey, throw it away, or just take the sack, rather than trying to hit a fairly well covered receiver. He needs more confidence in himself and his receivers, and to just take the shot. He needs to stop thinking about it, and just play.

Good video put together by NFL.com analyzing one of JC's main problems last year. Can't count the number of frustrating times he would checkoff underneath on third down passes. As John Madden used to emphasize on MNF, if you don't get it at least to the down marker you're coming off the field. Can't tell if this is a problem of lack of confidence or situational awareness, but is nonetheless a major concern.

I often wonder about the continued speculation about Jason Campbell. I seriously doubt that Jason Campbell will be a Redskin at the beginning of the 2010 season whether he has a great , good or bad year. I hope for a great year.
Jason campbell has not been treated very well by the Redskins front office as he has not demonstrated to the Redskins front office that he is capable of being the type of quarterback and team leader that they believe they need. The front office certainly has not seen fit to 1) offer a new contract and 2) has made much publicized efforts to acquire a replacement. One cannot miss the meaning of those two facts.
I do give Jason Campbell an extraordinary amount of credit for his handling the of the situation. He has done so with class. But I truely do not expect him to remain with the Redskins after his contract is up. He may say that it is possible but why should he re-sign with the team that has made it apparent that he is not what they want? I hope Zorn or whom ever replaes him has a Plan B.

Probably all the WRs will be in and out throughout the game and there's not gonna be a true competition like the one that's happening right now with the Tackle position.

As OJ Simpson once said to Howard Cossell, "You have a firm grasp of the obvious".

at first i was thinking that DT should be the slot because he has the body for it, can take hits and keep running etc. but ARE is effective at the slot. if DT can sun efficient routs and can work on timing with JC this offseason he could be a vaulable #2. ARE is small and it is tough for him in the slot but he is also able to twist, avoid tackles and get extra yards. maybe ARE is supposed to be our slot and DT our second wide out.

Do I understand the poll correctly? People think the competition for our #2 WR is more important to the team's playoff chances than the right tackle??? That's just crazy talk.

It's not crazy if you think that the RT situation is being blown out of proportion.

It's also important to note that whoever starts at RT will be below league average. Its possible that a WR could come in and do well, if given the chance. So WR could be more important.

I'm an optimist but I honestly cannot say that I think that anything we do this off-season will result in our winning the division this year.
I'm looking for improvement and I'm hoping that everything goes well for us but this team did not look like it was close to contending each week at the end of last year and I do not see the offense being as good as we need to be.

Doesn't sound very optimistic to me.

I believe the offense will be fine and wasn't real far from decent last year they blew a few plays and if your taking everything into consideration you mean to say JIm Zorn or the offense will fail to progress next season to play better football.... I think is wrong.
To be optimistic is great to be honest is another. I have a great deal of faith that with the little bit they have added to the o- line they will be able to move the ball and sustain drives, I mean to say that Cambell will come through.. and the playcalling will be better and help the execution of the offense.
