Eagles are going to be tough again this year

The Eagles, in my opinion, did not just improve over last season's team - they are one of the top 6 teams in the NFC East

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/11700585

I know that SkinsFreak thinks we will beat them this year and could even sweep them  after all, as he points out, we swept them last year

I just happen to think that the Eagles are going to be a formidable team this year and personally, I will be very happy if we split with them this season

we are a better team this year than last but unfortunately, we keep making our team better than last year but we just cannot seem to make our team better than most other teams in the league. Most other NFL franchises are adding pieces all the time that keep them competitive with other teams they play and we just don't seem to want to make that long-term plan and stick with it.

I'll warrant that if we don't do well this year, we'll just get rid of the coach again (and the QB almost certainly) and start anew  - but I'll also be very surprised if we make a big commitment to rebuilding - we need some people who know what they are doing to be in charge and be given more than a year or 2 to get things done here.

I can't wait until we play the Eagles. I know they are better on offense but they might have gotten a little worse on defense. Think they are missing a couple of players now :) We owe them many more sweeps. I think we can at least on paper sweep
them. The giants still scare me. I hope we can at least split with them.

Most importantly they lost their leader on defense. Even if he was aging and losing some skill Dawkins was still the heart of that D. I still think the Giants are the team to beat this year in the division. They had a pretty good draft themselves and they really haven't lost anyone except Plaxico.

Plax alone is enough to cause concern. They lack a #1 (as it stands now) and we saw what happened to Eli when Plax wasn't there at the end of the season.

Didn't they also lose Toomer?

As for as I know that's correct as well.

Back to the Eagles, they aren't consistant. They have a lot of talent now, but they still don't have a #1 receiver. Until this #2 back proves otherwise, they have a hole at RB b/c Westbrook can't play full time.

There's issues on the defense if everyone's wanting out, and I think it's more than a tough practice. We'll see what happens, but there are too many question marks for me to say these guys are the team to beat.

That's exactly right. The Giants are an incredibly solid team, but they may be in for a slight fallback because: (1) their o-line has been healthy for 2 years now, which is great luck for them; and (2) their passing game won't be as good with the guys they have now.

Aren't the Eagles the team to beat every year? It seems like every off season the "experts" say it's Philly's year, and then they have excuses made for them.

I think the Eagles got 3 excellent players so they obviously look good. Jason Peters, pro bowl OT. Jeremy Maclin, 2nd best receiver in the draft. And Lesean McCoy, a great running back from PItt. If the 2 rookies produce like they are hoping for then their offense can be very dangerous IMO.

Don't forget Ingram...he was great before the injury...could be a steal if he gets healthy.

Yeah, but Jim Johnson, their D Coordinator, is fighting cancer and he is a huge part of that team. He apparently asked and received the okay for a leave of absence from the team to fight it.

While I don't like the Eagles, and I think the empty display case is great, I don't wish that disease on anyone!

My thoughts will be with him.

Wow, I want to crush the Eagles, but not like that. I hope he beats it.

Hopefully he will beat this. Lots of respect for coach Johnson.

He really is a fantastic coach. Wish him nothing but luck.

Losing Dawkins was huge. Losing Jim Johnson would be the end of that great defense they field. Always loved the way Johnson coached. Johnson has some of the best defensive plays. I wish him the best.

I need to be clear -- I wish him the best in beating cancer, I just hope he realizes life is too short, go play with your grandkids and leave the Skins alone!

i tend to agree with the sentiment that the Eagles, while attractive on paper, have been perennial overrated. I know last year they made it to the NFC, but they were very inconsistent throughout the season, and their defense has taken a few big hits in the offseason (Dawkins, Shepard, Brown (?)). I think this division is really difficult to predict this season. I too think that the Giants are the team to beat, and i fully expect them to acquire a big receiver at some point (Chad maybe?)

I like it when the Eagles appear to have improved. It raises expectations in Philly, giving their fans farther to fall when fate slams them into the ground and crushes them like a rotten banana.

I go the other way. I think Philthy, this year excepted, is generally under-rated. You never see their players on pre-season all-star lists, you never hear about ANY of their defensive players although many of them are exceptional (Bradley, Bunkley, Mikell.) And their coaching staff seems to be very well respected and deep (didn't Spagnuolo come from there? And Leslie Frazier?)

This year, they will fail.

I have a feeling that Sean McDermott will just maintain the same defense that has proven to be so good under coach Johnson - this guy is just another version of the same guy IMHO  and I think the players will play harder for him as he tries to maintain what Johnson started here
