Your First Post on THN

I think it's funny to look at what people said in the past. So I thought it would be fun (and to lighten the mood) to see some of our first post on THN. I remember mine very well..I was so pissed..it was after the Boys 27-0 blowout of us in 03.

I'm sick and tired of going to the games and seeing so many fans of the opposing team there! If you don't want to go to the game give up your tickets. I drive a hour and a half to all the games. Don't tell me it's to cold, don't tell me you had plans, if you get tickets plan on being there, if not give or sell them to a SKINS fan!!! We say we want a winner, but we don't support it. Yesterday was a great example, had to be at least 30,000 Boys fan there. Way to much blue!!

I really don't think that we have a problem if CP goes down. I think Betts proved that last year. And we have Blaylok for Betts' breather if needed, I think we're deep at RB. Don't get my wrong, I want CP to stay healthy. I think he's more explosive, but Betts is a workhorse. I'm sweatin that D-line and to see if JC can come out and shine in his first full season starting.

After having lurked for almost a year, I was bored in the off-season, and decided to give this message board thing a try. I've been hooked ever since.

Deadskins wrote:I've heard Gardener and a draft pick for O-gun, but never Samuels. Samuels would be too much to give up, but we would take no cap hit on a trade. A trade means the other team assumes his contract. I think Samuels will bounce back this year under the tutelage of Joe Bugel. I'm hoping for the Gardener scenario since I've never been convinced about him anyway, and we are deep at the WR position.

This is also my first post but I have been reading these boards for 2 or 3 years now. The content is the best I have found on the internet and this is where i come for most of my redskins news. Thanks all!

I think it's a little too early to be looking at stats and thinking playoffs. I agree that we have some good stats, and some not so good, but I think they are currently only as telling as our next opponent.

J.C. has averaged 200 yards per game through the air against defenses I would categorize as better than the Giants. He's had twice as many dropped passes as overthrows (not an official stat, but that's how it's looked to me).

He adds a new layer to our running game, which only helps our passing game. If Caldwell works out and becomes a solid number three reciever, we have a lot of weapons on our offense for defenders to cover. I see a lot of room for trickery this season.

They've already started setting it up with fake reverses. One of these times that fake reverse will be real, and could be an option-play by Randle-El and we know he can throw.

We saw an option play last week against Philly, that turned into Portis chewing up quite a few yards.

We've got four games in five weeks to get our timing down to a science before our major test against New England. If we can beat the Chowder Heads in week 8, then I'll start thinking playoffs, and Superbowls. Hell, if we make it to week 8 at 6-0 I'll start thinking playoffs at least.

January 18, 2004,

BossHog was explaining his thoughts on why Franchising Champ Bailey, and then moving him, could pay off...
Gibbs had Casserley, and he's the king of posturing... gotta rub off.... and it's good business.

To which I replied...
Don't know about that... While Casserly was the king of such maneuvering, it's just not Gibb's style... He is not likely to play such games. My suspicion is that if Gibbs says it's settled, it means that he has evaluated Champ's character, and (finding it above reproach) has decided that he is a Gibbs type of player. I'd bet that Champ is starting on the corner at FedEx next fall.

Oops...

Here's mine:

Skinsfan55 wrote:I was wondering about Coach Gibbs, all I know about him I saw on ESPN classic. I heard a lot about us drafting Kellen Winslow and I think that would be an excellent selection with the 5th pick, but some people say Gibbs uses the TE to primarily block... but a great coach adapts to the talent available, just like Gibbs did when he was a pass first type in San Diego but was forced to run when he came to Washington (more ESPN)...

Anyway, how do you see Gibbs running the Skins next season, will he make due with Canidate and/or Betts like with Joe Washington or Timmy Smith? Will he accept that the Redskins are primed to be a passing first team?

BTW, Countertrey I wish we'd kept Bailey. I like CP a lot, but that wasn't a really good trade for us.

I feel like I've made this argument for different corners several times the past few years:

Fios wrote:Bailey's growing chorus of critics seem to have forgotten that the Skins had NO pass rush this year. Unless you count Smith jumping offsides or blowing past a running back in a pathetic attempt to tie the sack record. But give any NFL QB as much time as the Skins did and he will shred any secondary. Did Bailey struggle at times? (Buffalo is a particularly egregious example) Yes, but that is a testament to our horrendous d-line, not his skill. And Champ, like Smoot, played hurt this year.
Champ does need to rethink his salary demands but losing him would be a huge blow.

And another because I always liked this one:

Fios wrote:Regardless of who the Redskins draft, regardless of whether they somehow had the best draft in history, the "experts" at ESPN will say the following:

<insert name here> was a solid if unspectacular pick whose choice fails to address a need/creates a position battle/was simply too costly given what the Redskins gave up to get him ... the Redskins passed on <insert names here> who, while not the flashy pick Dan Snyder seems drawn to would have been a much better fit/addressed a need/a better character guy ... in summation, the Redskins deserve a C-/D+ ... what's that? ... how many of us have been NFL GMs?... um none, why?

This is about the time when the Post will send some poor intern to the casket where Sally Jenkins sleeps (she avoids the light at all costs, something we can all be thankful for) to wake her so she can write yet another piece on why signing Neon was a mistake and then go back to eating small children.
That, in turn, will make Pastabelly very hungry.

Tommy: Yes, I'll stick with my prediction that the Bears will beat the Redskins. I'll even go a step further: I'll say that they'll score 23 points on one touchdown by the offense, one score on either defense or special teams and three Doug Brien field goals."

In response to a post quoting a Bears writer who said before the opening game of the 2005 season:

Me wrote:Considering the Bears couldn't score on us last year, what makes him think they can do so this year?

Oh right. Kyle Orton is Peyton Manning.

Yeah. Bears scored 7 in that game.

Neophyte TCWest got his feet wet when he wrote:Hello. First time poster, long time fan. I rooted for Monk in Syracuse, and became a Redskins fan when they drafted him. Here's my thing. I don't want Kearse, Gardner or Sapp. Jevon, despite his familiarity with our new DC, would still need a year to gel with LaVar, and they both have the same free-lancing issues. I think Williams can do the job with the three LBs we have now. The money is better spent, IMHO, on the front four. I don't want Daryl to come back. I feel that he isn't what you'd call a "Gibbs-Type" player. (Please don't bring up Dexter. I know. Gardner is no Dexter Manley.)His one year here with us was okay, but he was playing for a new contract that year. When he got it, and went to Denver, he went right out and got himself in trouble (plus injured). I wouldn't want Corey Simon, either. He got himself hurt tonight in the game v. the Packers. He's fat. He got six or seven sacks this year because of the people around him. No, if I have to take an Eagle, give me Kalu back.

I will post a few pics for those that are interested. Got his picture with Jon "The Rock" Jansen, Arrington, Champ, Matt Bowen, Ramsey and Gibran Hamden.

I also was fortunate enough to meet Dave Fiore. I was very impressed by him. I was standing in a crowd of autograph seekers. There were several children and a few adults. Time was running out and he told us he would do the kids first and then come back for the adults if there was time. Most players just stand there and sign whatever is put in front of them, even though it's usually an adult pushing a kid out of the way.

By the way, I am trying to start a Jon Jansen fan club. I have created an MSN group page to start gauging interest, so if you are interested please join. I contacted his agent about making an official club, although a week later, I haven't heard anything back. Please have anyone you know that might be interested, The more interest I can show, the better the chances. To join, please follow the link below:

No, that went by the wayside fairly quickly. I did, however, use that connection to get an interview with big Jon in 04 after he got hurt, so that was cool at least.

Here's mine. It was frustrating. I was arguing that Gibbs overvalues time in certain endgame situations. I ended up in a tussle with Hogster. He and others kept telling me we pass a lot in 3rd and 2 and I kept trying to remind him and others that I was talking about endgame situations and the value Gibbs places on time. Words were being put in my mouth like crazy. Very frustrating.

I have found Gibbs to be weak in time management since returning. You have all seen the wasted time outs. But there is more. Before I go on I say Gibbs is an excellent coach - but no one is perfect - not even me! Anyway, QBs make bad throws, runners, cough it up, and refs make bad calls. I need Joe to recognize a weakness and work on it. I will not say we lost the game because of what I am about to explain but it's one of the reasons. Running on 3rd and 2 with 2:40 left was a STRATEGIC ERROR. If there are 50 seconds left it is the right call. An unsuccessful run takes it down under 10 seconds before we punt. If we are at midfield running MIGHT be the right call. The extra 40 seconds burned compared to a clock stopping incomplete MIGHT matter if we are about to punt them down to their 10 yard line. But when a punt gives them the ball at midfield, 40 seconds out of 2:40 is not relevant. Heck, they left us almost a full minute as it was. Given the field position, TIME WAS NOT A FACTOR AND GIBBS SHOULD HAVE GONE FOR THE BEST CHANCE AT A 1ST DOWN AND NOT THOUGHT ABOUT TIME AT ALL.

For the record, I thought Gibbs II's time management absolutely sucked. I know I argued that more than once here.
