LOL Bring him back, seriously. He'd be a good change of pace back for CP. Could he be our homerun hitter?

He's baaaaaack:
Marcus Mason Is Back With The Skins
The former Skins RB and Georgetown Prep product is back with the Redskins, according to a league source, after being claimed on waivers. Mason spent the past two training camps with Washington and was one of the final cuts in 2008. He was signed to Baltimore's practice squad and then later to the Jets' active roster, but was placed on waivers Monday after New York selected a running back in the third round of the draft.
The San Diego Chargers, who like Washington have a deep backfield, also claimed Mason, according to the source, but the Redskins were awarded him based on them having first crack at him based on the reverse order of finish in 2008. Mason will be with the Redskins for the start of mini-camp Friday. He has become popular among fans and last season some were expecting him to make the team after some strong performances in exhibition games, though his struggles on special teams held him back.
The Redskins bring back runners Clinton Portis, Ladell Betts and Rock Cartwright from last season.

Let's hope Marcus Mason never shows his guts for the Redskins

I think the Redskins think this guy will come in and compete and win a roster spot. They already know what he brings to the table, and would not have him attending mini-camp unless they were confident he has a good shot. He sure seems like he could be a change of pace guy, and I think the Skins desperately need youth at the position.

Oh man, I read some of that blog talk... Smoot doesn't get credit. I like him. I know he is getting older but he fills in when starters go down and he doesn't mind being the 3rd corner. What more could we ask from a 3rd corner? He plays hurt. He plays with heart. He is the Evander Holyfield of CBs!!!!! Oh well.

I'm glad that he is back with the Redskins.

Welcome back and good luck to Marcus. If we needed someone to back up Clinton then he would have made the team last year. Ladell and Rock are both solid back-ups and have proven it in regular season games. I always like to see a long shot do well and he has skills as a running back but unfortunately for him the 3rd and 4th RBs on an NFL roster have to be strong contributors on Teams. Hopefully he's improved in that area because he's got competition on the roster already from former Bronco back Anthony Alridge who brings alot of speed to the table and Dominique Dorsey who brings gamebreaking runback ability down from the CFL. Again, I enjoyed watching him last year in preseason and wish him the best.

that would be good. we have a power runner w/Rock and our star runner in CPortis, so a change of pace runner like MMason would be nice(even if its only on returns!!)

Zorn proved last year that Rock won't be in the offensive backfield. He brought in Stephen Alexander instead of giving Rock the rock. Rock is strictly special teams. This results in only having two serviceable running backs.

One of my worries about Zorn was his inability to get talent on the field last year. He appeared scared to pull the trigger on certain situations...hmmm... I kinda chalk that up to him being rookie and kinda feeling his players out, it's understandable.
This year, theres no reason why Mason shouldn't be spelling CP as our homerun threat. The Giants found time for 3 backs, we can too. To be honest, Betts should get the least amount of time IMO. (if mason proves worthy again this offseason)
This year, Thrash shouldn't be starting over anyone. It was inexcusable last year and will be again this year.
And if ARE is our starting PR....my goodness...

Hall, Moss, and Thomas are all supposed to be able to return punts...there's no reason why ARE should be on punt duties this year.

There's no reason for Mason not to make the roster? That seems silly. Anthony Aldridge and Dominique Dosey have the same shot to make the team, if not a better shot.
Honestly though, Betts is a good back, why not use him more? He could get in there to give CP a break.

Because Betts isn't a spell back..he's a feature back. He's got to get a head of steam rolling. I thought he showed that when CP went on IR.

Being a hometown guy I'm glad he's back but.. really now, I'm not even excited about it because we might just mess it up and have him on the practice squad again (I hope not). Like my buddy Vet always says though, it's purely speculation and we'll just have to wait and see. I wish him the best.

Exactly sir, you hit the nail on the head. There aren't enough carries in the game to get him warmed up. We need a guy that can come in there with a different style of running to throw the defense off balance.

Betts has fallen off. Ever since that playoff game in Seattle

Betts hasn't fallen off, we're not using him right. Add him to the list. He's wasting his career here IMO. I'd rather him leave and get some good playing time so that he can run like he needs to.

We should at least get something for him. Don't just let him leave as a FA; he's better than that.
