Do you think Campbell will be back in 2010?

I believe he will not be a Redskin.

The writing is on the wall after the whole Cutler thing. Not having a new longterm contract at this juncture is not a good sign.

He will be playing with immense pressure this upcoming season and, from what I´ve seen these last two years of him as a starter, I´m not sure he will cut it.

What do you guys think?

Your right. If I am JC and even if I have a great season I would test the market. I think he has more class than me though so lets see.

It's all in one persons hand at this point and that is Mr.Campbell himself. Campbell should have a better but i'm not saying a really good O-line this year (damn I hope Samuel's can stay healthy all year).

All the info that I have read up on Campbell and watching him myself there is one area that he still hasn't over come in the Nfl!!The truth is Campbell still sucks at reading defenses and audible at the line to make the correct call.

I can remember the 6-2 stretch at the beggining of the season Jason was making the NFL film room anatomy of a play or whatever it was called lol. Showing how he made the right audible and big play. The saints game comes into mind. http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d80acb49e

Fast forward to 4th Q audible= call 67 yard bomb to Moss if campbell can adjust and make the right call against the real tuff defenses then watch out, but the Saints "D" isn't exactly known for being tuff.

Very nice skinpride1. The problem is -All it takes is one - Awe shucks to wipe out all those, that a boys. This is the problem that fans have even with some former Redskins greats like Brian Mitchell.

Unless he has a 1991 Rypien-esque season, you can be he's packing his bags in 2010.

I said in another thread by accident this is a tall order. You ^^^ are exactly right though this is going to be one great season or nothing.

Until the draft is over there is no guarantee he'll be back for 2009 :)

2010? no, I cant see the OL being any better than last season so he wont get anymore protection

I do not see the o line much better either but I do think we just got younger with Dock. He is a brute with the run and he did upgrade but it will not make a huge difference.

The key to JC's success is the durability and longevity of the line. Then he can show what he's got. I think with Dock back (Kendall didn't do that bad last year) we have a better chance to see it as long as we address the RT position. Remember, this is year 2 of JZ's offense, it will be a lot more comfortable to EVERYONE, including JC.

Well said and I agree. I still believe we will see a much improved Campbell this coming season.

And I agree with both of you.. I believe he'll be fine and we'll give him a new contract as a result. I'm rooting for him like crazy too. Cool

That's possible, but to address the topic of this poll, I don't see him coming back in 2010. If he has another mediocre season, the Skins won't resign him. If he has a stellar season, I bet he walks in free agency and doesn't look back.

In my opinion it's 50/50 that he will earn a new contract, and then it's about 50/50 on if he would even want to return after earning a contract... so no... I put Campbell's chances at 25% of returning.

No. He'd improve with a better line but even with that I don't think he has what we need to go far.

Well, that's certainly possible.

Interestingly, a similar poll was held in Austin, Texas recently and the results were overwhelmingly in favor of JC making the Pro Bowl and getting a long-term contract extension.

The only thing he has left to improve is touchdowns.

If he throws 20-25 touchdowns this season, and doesn't slide on the things he did well last season, I think he'll be back.

His most telling stat from last year was the number of times he was sacked. They got him 21 times in '07 and 38 times in '08.

Of course he fumbled the ball 13 times in '07, and turned it over a total of 19 times (11 INTs and 8 fumbles lost) while in '08 he fumbled 7 times and only turned the ball over a total of 7 times (6 INTs and 1 fumble lost)

I think the media tried desperately to turn Campbell into Cutler (crybaby demanding a trade), by trying to get him to express displeasure with the team, but in the interviews that I watched, he didn't seem all that shaken up by it.

The only thing he really needs to improve stat-wise is his touchdowns, but the coach needs to trust him to throw the ball inside the 20, and his recievers actually need to catch the thing when it hits them in the hands.

I hate those INT stats so much.. they don't take into account our WR's tipping the ball into the air for an easy pick.

our O line is a little bit better now.
It could be much improved after the draft.
It is the second year of JZs O.
It is the second year for our rook wide outs.
CP is healthy.
Our D is sick.

All things considered, it seems JC is set up for an improved season.
An increase in TDs will help raise his stock but only a run deep into the playoffs will allow him to make big cash in free agency. So the only way he will leave after next year (or before this upcoming season) is a trade for a different qb.

If that is the case, I would need to see evidence of a qb that we both want and can get at a minimal loss to really believe that JC will not be back in 2010.

In summation, he will have an improved 2009 season. More TDs with similar other stats. He will resign and JZ will have one more chance to get us deep in the playoffs in the 2010 season.

After that all bets are off. players will be getting old and we might see a restructuring of the team.

Insufficient information. It all depends on the CBA.

If the CBA is extended, Campbell's a free agent at the end of the season. If he fails, he's not much use as a backup in Zorn's system, but if he succeeds, the Redskins can't afford him. There won't be cap room to use the franchise tag, and the trade talks make it pretty unlikely that Campbell will take a discount to stay. It wouldn't surprise me to see him end up (and do well) in TEN or NYJ.

If the CBA isn't extended, Campbell's a 5th year RFA and back with the team. Barring career-ending injury, there's no way that Campbell's so bad this year that he won't be worth $2M next year to squat on his rights.

While I do think Campbell has been unfairly villainized as the only problem on offense, I think he will be on his way out after next year. I think the skins will consider him as having run his course, and see what Colt can do. I also don't see much more promise for the offense next year, so i don't know how he will improve a whole lot with whats around him.

I must agree with skinpride1 about my take on jason Campbell. Since Joe Gibbs-to-jim zorn, Campbell has shown an ability to pick up on the three offensive playbooks in 4 years. But that's all he brings to the table. He has yet to show us he can decisively read the defense. He has yet to show he can decisively executed a learned offense. The weight of this season's record is shared by the O-line and campbell indecisive-long-windup pass. whose accurate release is probably only 2 seconds faster than Leftwich. I still like colt brennan chances at showing what he brings under-center!!

JC is in a rough spot. Why do the Redskins continue to put players in a bad spot. If JC does well in 2009 we lose him b/c of the front office. So that puts JC in the drivers seat. If the Redskins push to get a QB in the draft then JC will gone in 2010 done deal 100%! If the Skins show that they want to build around him for 2009 then the Skins have a 50-50 chance of signing him to a long term deal IF he has a good season.

We are a team that plays very well as a team defensively - we need to find a decent punter, kicker and someone who can at least kick off deep enough - we also are not a very effective team offensively.

I do not think Campbell has been "villianized" and I do not feel he's that big of an issue with the offense's inability to score last year - to me that was more a result of:
Zorn not trusting his QB
Zorn not having a very good plan for this offense
An offensive line that cannot play to the level required.

Zorn needs to step up big time this coming season but with all of that we still have an issue with the age of our offensive line.
I think Dockery will help and hopefully we get in a RT that is a future great at the tackle position.
HOWEVER, Im afraid that will still not be enough for this offense.

In my opinion Campbell is not the problem but he is also not good enough to make it to the level we should have as both our QB and "leader".

I am not worried that Campbell might go to another team and help them be good - he's a good QB, he's just not good enough. He might as well stay here and be our back up - he can even compete for the job as it is going to take the next future great QB (be it Brennan or someone else) some time to play effectively anyway.
