Skins Mock draft contest (picks 1-13)

I'd like to start a mock draft contest. The rules are, 1) you can submit your mock anytime between now and 4pm EST on Saturday April 25th. 2) you can edit your mock post as often as you wish so long as you don't edit it after noon on April 25th. 3) submit picks 1-13 regardless of the teams picking in those spots. So even if picks get traded, you simply have to have the right player name in the right draft position. 4) Points are awarded for correct picks. The points are weighted slightly for the top picks.

It is usually a little too cumbersome to ask everyone to do a mock of all 32 1st round picks. So I thought, since the Skins pick #13 (assuming no trades  ) that 13 would be a good place to end the mock. Who cares about #14? We're off the clock from then until round 3 anyway.

Here's a blank format that you can copy and paste into your post to start your mock (just to save you some typing time) Points awarded for each pick are in parentheses. If the Skins end up picking in the top 13 as expected, their pick will be worth 75 points. So if the Skins pick 13th, the perfect total score will be 500. if they pick elsewhere, the perfect total may change.

This seems like a cool idea, fleetus. If you don't mind me adding a little incentive, let me say this: Anyone that posts a mock, I will post in the blog section the morning of the draft. The winner of the contest will get a guest blog spot at the time of his or her choosing, good for one year.

That means if fleetus wins, he can pick any moment in the year following the draft to post his thoughts on any topic he so chooses, and it will go out to google and anywhere else as web content, rather than a message board post.

Anyone wishing to submit a top-13 mock without participating in the blog aspect of this can just add a note to their respective post stating they do not wish to have their mock posted as a blog.

If the overwhelming majority of THN members don't like this idea, let me know here, and we can leave it as a friendly, bragging-rights type of competition. I just thought it might be cool to add a little prize at the end, and some recognition for anyone that puts in the work to take part.

Fleetus, Im not sure if you got my PM but I think the total should be 500 if the Redskins pick is worth 75. You have the Skins pick listed as 25 and the total with the pick being 25 is 450. So if the pick is suppose to be 75 then I think the total should be 500?

I also think the NFL Draft this year is at 4pm not 12pm. I didnt know if you had 2) of your first post 12pm because of that or not.

Dont take this post the right wrong. I just noticed those 2 things and thought id let ya know.

I explained this in the original post.
So if the Skins pick 13th, the perfect total score will be 500. if they pick elsewhere, the perfect total may change.
450 is just the regular total before we know where the Skins pick. Remember, they could trade to anywhere in the draft. if they traded to #1, for example, the total would be 475. Anyway, I deleted the 450 so it doesn't confuse anyone else.

I see what your saying now. Where the Skins pick is worth 75. So the total can be anywhere from 450 to 500 depending where the Skins pick in the 1st round.

Earlier, the 450 then the 75 in ( ) had me confused because I thought you meant the 75 was in the 450 already. Which had me lost because I thought it was 500 max.

So is the deadline to change going to still be noon even though the draft starts at 4pm? I just need to know in case I want to make a last minute change.

Oh, no let's change it to 4pm. Most years the draft has been around noon, hence the deadline. Will edit original post for 4pm EST.

Sorry, I can't help it

picks 1-13 by themselves are worth 450 pts total. As an interesting wrinkle, I thought I'd make the Skins pick worth the most, since that pick is the one we are all most interested in. So, I made the Skins pick worth 75 pts.

So, the 13th pick is worth 25 pts usually. If the Skins pick at 13, it's value will go up to 75, an increase of 50. So the total will also increase from 450 to 500.

If the Skins traded down out of the top 13, then the total would stay at the orignal 450. Hope this clears it up.

thanks, some of us are a bit slower than others.

If we want to come back and edit before the draft, should we just edit our original post? I've never been a message board user til I found this (awesome) site, but I've noticed I can edit posts. I'm not sure if there is a time limit for that though.

cool idea by the way. anything draft is good.

3. Kansas City, Aaron Curry LB
4. Seattle , Michael Crabtree WR
5. Cleveland, Mark Sanchez QB
6. Cincinatti , Eugene Monroe OT
7. Oakland , Brian Orakpo DE
8. JacksonVille My surprise pick that happens every year.
Percy Havin WR
9. Green Bay, B.J. Rajii
10. San Francisco, Aaron Maybin
11. Buffalo Bills, another shocker, Sean Smith, S/CB, Utah
you heard it here first!
12. Denver, Vontae Davis, CB, Illinois
13. And now for my beloved Skins.
Andre Smith would make perfect sense here. But, this is the Redskins front office we are talking about now. Since when has our front office made sense? :D
So I say it will be Ray Maualuga. Definatley going to be a USC trojan who gets drafted bank on that.

Since I started this contest thread, thought I would give full disclosure by showing my changes. As of today, I've made a lot of significant changes. It definitely sounds like there will be at least one trade inside the top 13:

1. Matt Stafford, QB, Ga.(50 pts.)
2. Jason Smith, OT, Baylor (50 pts.)
3. Aaron Curry, OLB, E. Car.(40 pts.)
4. Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech(40 pts.)

11. Aaron Maybin, DE, Penn St.(25 pts.)
12. Tyson Jackson, DE LSU (25 pts.)
13. Robert Ayers, Ten. (25 pts.)

This is a hedge bet because I'm thinking the Skins could be at 9 picking Sanchez or 13 picking Ayers.
