Snyder wants Cutler, not April Fool's.

Washington Redskins: We all know that when Dan Snyder wants something, he’s willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen. He’s a determined owner, and cost is never an issue, which would appeal to the Broncos. The ‘Skins might believe in Jason Campbell as their quarterback today, but this is a risky belief at best. Trading for Cutler would bring them a legitimate player, one who can transform the ‘Skins into Super Bowl contenders. Vinny Cerrato has a great relationship with former Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan, and I’m confident they’ve discussed Cutler in detail. The ‘Skins are like the Jets, limited in assets to trade, and I don’t believe Campbell is someone McDaniels would want to build his team around. However, the determination of Snyder is not to be overlooked, and the fact the Broncos would not have to play against Cutler very often makes Washington a viable option.

http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/2009/04/notes-from-lombardi-where-to-next/

Mike Lombardi of the National Football Post writes that he is confident Redskins owner Dan Snyder has already discussed Jay Cutler "in detail" with former Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan.
Lombardi doesn't think Denver would want Jason Campbell in a trade, but Snyder has pulled off big acquisitions with the odds seemingly against him before. Still, the Skins have only four draft picks. This will be a tough sell.

Why not just hire Mike Shanahan as GM? Then if Zorn sucks it up in his 2nd year, he's there for the head coach job with Cutler as his QB again. He also has coached Portis.

The Washington Redskins are actively pursuing a trade for disgruntled Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler tonight, according to NFL sources.

One source said the Redskins are trying to complete the deal as quickly as possible although at least two other teams, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Jets, are also reportedly interested in acquiring Cutler. The two-year starter became available today when the Broncos announced they would trade him. Denver officials could not be reached for comment tonight.

The Redskins are declining comment.

The source said Redskins owner Daniel M. Snyder has been pushing for the trade in an attempt to finally solve the team's decade-long pursuit of a franchise quarterback.

Redskins spokesman Zack Bolno denied the team had inquired about dealing Campbell.
Another NFL source said a high-ranking Redskins official contacted one NFL team today about the possibility of trading quarterback Jason Campbell for a second-round pick in the upcoming draft. That source said he interpreted the Redskins' overture as an attempt by Washington to put together a package to acquire Cutler.

Bolno denied the team had inquired about dealing Campbell. Also, team officials have repeatedly publicly denied interest in Cutler. Vinny Cerrato, Washington's executive vice president of football operations, said March 17 that the team was not pursuing Cutler and coach Jim Zorn dismissed the notion while meeting with reporters at the NFL owners' meetings in Dana Point, Calif., last week.

If the Redskins fail to acquire Cutler, they risk alienating Campbell, who has been the starter the past two seasons. Campbell said earlier today that he wants to stay in Washington.

''I want to be here, I feel like there's a lot I want to accomplish and that's what I've been working to do, but you know it's not in your control,'' Campbell said. ''All I can do is just keep doing what I'm doing, working hard and waiting to see what happens.''

Wow, they changed their tune quickly.

if we try to get cutler and dont get him... campbell will almost be in the same situation as cutler is. but campbell does not put up as good of numbers as cutler either so i dont kno. i really want cutler. maybe for our 13th pick and jc. cutler would make everyone better. portis would run better then the play action opens up then defenses go crazy. devin thomas should start over ARE if we trade for cutler. he is a monster if he is healthy and gets playing time. like at MSU, he started off slow then took off like a rocket. cutler would have another 4000 yard season guaranteed. i just hope if we go for cutler we get him. i picture him in a jets, lions, bucs, 49's, and browns uniforms and it just doesnt look good. redskins uniform looks good on him. or maybe its b/c all them other teams have ugly uniforms and the redskins have the best colored uniforms in the nfl.

i want cutler so cooley can have a good season and want to come back to the redskins next season. i think if campbell has a bad season the cooley has a bad season then cooley is gone off somewhere else where every time we play the team he is on, he will kill us :(

I don't think the Skins would benefit from acquiring Cutler. I am in Denver and have seen this whole thing unfold. With the way things went down between Portis and Zorn last year and the fact that Daniel Snyder will get in your face if you mess up, having Cutler in that situation is another tantrum waiting to happen.

It could get as bad as Ryan Leaf.

I also want to say hello. This is my first post here. I became a Redskins fan in 1983 and grew up wanting to be like Darrell Green, Art Monk, and Charlie Brown. I gloated to my family when the Skins beat the Broncos in '88.

Frankly, I lost interest in them as the Snyder era went on and haven't cared much since he traded Champ Bailey, the straw that broke the camel's back for me. Ironically, Denver has become similar this year. Now I am just annoyed with the NFL as a whole. Hopefully I have someone to cheer for this year. Perhaps I will regain my Hog heritage if Cutler is on board. I do love Portis.

Cheers,

God...

I think Jay Cutler has acted like a big baby through this whole process... so I'm not that wild about acquiring him. Just look at this: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/statistic ... &year=2008

Jason Campbell
COMP% 62.3
RTG 84.3
TD 13
INT 6

Jay Cutler
COMP% 62.3
RTG 86.0
TD 25
INT 18

So how much better is Cutler really? Is he any better at all? He's like a year and a half younger... so it's not a big difference, he's a couple inches shorter and he arguably performed worse last season than in 2007.

Cutler was also sacked 11 times, the second fewest in the league while attempting the 2nd MOST passes! (Behind only Drew Brees.) He had all day to throw all year and even though his running game was lacking, he has a pro bowl receiver, a good rookie and a cadre of veterans... what does Campbell have? 38 sacks, no WR help and no running game in the second half.

Jay Cutler is not that great and would not represent an upgrade on Jason Campbell.

We'd also have to pay through the nose to get him and really mortgage our future when we have other needs like OT, OLB and more.

Rotoworld: Campbell offered in trade today

The heat keeps getting dialed up on Campbell not being a Redskin much longer.

http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playernews.aspx?sport=NFL

The Redskins reportedly offered Jason Campbell to an undisclosed team for a second-round pick on Wednesday.

The offer was probably contingent on Washington getting Jay Cutler from the Broncos with the pick as part of a package, which might also have included the No. 13 overall choice. The Skins have made it clear that they aren't committed to Campbell by balking at a long-term contract and now this.

I don't know why. Cooley is a great teammate and hard worker. The guy had one TD last year. I love Cooley as a Redskins but I would not be heartbroken to see him go. The WC offense doesn't use the TE that much anyways and Davis is bigger and more of an athlete, I am sure he would be a fine fill in, especially if getting rid of Cooley meant bringing in Cutler.

The only difference to me is that his arm strength could have helped us score a couple of TD's last year (underthrows to Moss.) :P

I think he would take more chances and we would score more TD's but he would throw more interceptions as well. I would be happy going either way (Campbell or Cutler) as long we don't lose one of our young prospects along with Campbell (Cooley, Thomas, Rocky Mac, Landry, etc.)

I don't know how good Cutler is but if its true that there are 6 teams in the hunt for him then he cant be that bad. :)

Put another way, if we put Campbell up for trade would we get six teams banging on the door?

Cutler and Haynesworth ? that would have to make us a contender this season

Time to call off Snyder. Cutler is acting schizophrenic. He asks for a trade and now this:

Forget the numbers, watch them play and youll see the difference. You could also argue that the receivers didnt have a good year because Campbell couldnt get them the ball. Campbell never throws the ball unless he sees the receiver sitting their open. Good QB's see the receiver getting open before they finish their route and release the ball early so when the receiver breaks the ball is already there. They dont have to sit and wait. They also fit passes into tight spots which is something Campbell has yet to show he has the confidence to do. I am not saying he cannot develop and beast at those attributes but why take a risk when you can trade for a guy who already does all of that and has a much quicker release (WC necessity).

Not sold on this one ..

Assuming the undisclosed team is not Denver, then we end up with the #13 plus a second rounder , to offer for Cutler. The Bronocs then end up with #12 and #13 plus second rounder but no QB. So they could maybe trade up and get Sanchez/Stafford.

I would think that Campbell plus #13 would be better for them. They could then trade up and get a non-QB if they wanted.

At the end of the day, the Broncos are probably gonna come out as the loser as far as QB is concerned, no matter which team trades for Cutler (unless its the Lions and the Broncos think either Sanchez/Stafford is a better choice than Campbell)

All very confusing, but helps to keep the interest going until the season starts

The question I ask myself is this ..

Would a Cutler-led skins be more of a superbowl contender then a Campbell led one?

I believe the answer is yes and I think Synder is right to go after him.

The FO gets more surreal every year. Seriously.

Cutler is Jeff George take 2.

As far as the deal as a good idea - JC17 is a great young man and an average middle aged quarterback. JC6 is a lousy young man and a franchise quarterback. Last time I checked, average QB's with character like Big Ben, Dilfer, and Brad Johnson win SBs with great teams built around them. And franchise QB's like Brady and the Mannings win SB with their arms and great personal character and team leadership.

What you don't see is QB's like Jeff George winning anything but the admiration of fans who love strong arms more than strong character.

Remind me - how did Jeff George work out when Snyder went and got him and kicked out Brad Johnson? Oh, yeah, George was a disaster and Johnson won a superbowl. The winner in this deal may just be JC17.

With the evidence of J-Camp being offered for a 2nd rounder to another team, may be it's the Browns.

I could see this happening:

Redskins get: Jay Cutler

Browns get: Jason Campbell, 5th Rounder (140) from Broncos

Broncos get: Brady Quinn, 1st rounder (13) from Skins, 2nd Rounder (36) from Browns

I could see this happening. The Browns were mentioned as a fake trade scenario, but I think this makes sense. The Browns have two 2nd round picks, so they could spend one for Jason Campbell.

Good point, from what I've heard, Cutler was a trash-talker and with the way the team crumbled in the final 3 games of last season, he didn't look like a vocal leader.

Talks getting serious, What is Cutler worth?

The fact is we are known for giving the farm for manure. I want to see what you guys would be happy with. If we trade for Cutler what kind of deal will make you excited, what kind of deal would cause a little discomfort, and what deal would make you make you shake your head and say "hear we go again". BE REALISTIC!!

I would be excited if: we traded Campbell and Cooley for him.

Slight discomfort (but a little excitement with Cutler) if: we traded Campbell and a 1st round pick

OUTRAGED: if any players or picks were added to either of those offers.

Campbell plus the #13.

If we are NOT inteested in Cutler then I think the FO should come out and say so, for Campbell's benefit if for no other reason.
