My guess would be that between free agency and the draft is just about the only 'down' time when it comes to NFL coverage. That and the May - July stretch. So the guys who cover breaking news are going to take their breaks then.

He's been looking a little peaked lately anyway. Everybody gets vacation time.
Believe me, though. He's ambitious. He'd leave Jennifer Aniston nekkid in a skinny-dip if an NFL scoop came over his blackberry. I swear it...it could be some nonsense like, "I've just received word that Terrell Owens had a mole removed from his left buttcheek just this morning, and is awaiting test results. No word yet on how this will affect his speech."
Me? I wouldn't leave Jennifer Aniston nekkid for an incoming asteroid, but my ambition died at age 38. : )

What's up with Adam Schefter, alumnus of Bellmore Kennedy High and one of the NFL Network's most recognizable figures?

Schefter hasn't blogged on NFL.com since March 3, hasn't appeared on "Total Access" since March 6 and now is nowhere to be seen at the owners' meetings in California.

All Schefter would say about it Monday was this: "I’m under contract to NFL Network until the middle of August, and I’ve been very happy there and I’m hoping we can work things out."

Hmm. OK, so it appears there is a lack of an agreement on the financial terms of a contract extension. From what I have heard, this involves a quite substantial gap.

But why the mysterious disappearance from the network at the busiest time of the offseason?

The NFL Network's statement on this matter: "We are moving forward with the talented staff who will be on NFL Network and NFL.com during the 2009 season."

I guess he's not coming back to NFL Network... they need to draft a new guy with all the inside scoop. Maybe he got traded to ESPN.

Who knows anymore....!!!

Adam Schefter went missing from the NFL Network sometime about a month ago, and there were rumors that he was holding out for a million dollar contract.

Several league and industry sources have told us that Adam Schefter, who still is under contract with NFL Network, will join ESPN later this year.

Thanks 1nik......... wherever did you get that link? I tried a Google search and got nothing...... The mystery of "where's Adam" is slowly being solved. I like Adam's reporting:

The bad news for the NFL Network is that, not only will they be losing a stellar reporter, but Schefter will not be on Draft coverage this year. That guy was a rock star in predicting picks and trades last year.

I can only post my real thoughts in Smack.

To put it simply, almost anyone can do Schefters job so this is not a big loss at all.

Jake, being on TV as a sports reporter is not an easy thing. Otherwise, I'd be doing it for $$$. Adam has charm, command of the moment, insight, and other talent that many current reports lack (I'd like to fire some, if I were in charge).

The insider NFL stuff, sure, might be "fed" to him by the NFL. Regardless, Adam is still a pretty smooth operator when it comes to being a reporter on TV.

I'll just agree to disagree.
