Redskins WR Devin Thomas was a no-show for the start of voluntary offseason work last week.
Despite the "voluntary" tag, Thomas' absence is a huge red flag after he left the Redskins with a stark impression of immaturity throughout last season. If Thomas is going to turn it around and earn the trust of teammates and coaches, he's going to have to start working like a pro -- and that obviously isn't happening.


Redskins WR Malcolm Kelly (knee surgery) has yet to be cleared for participation in offseason workouts.
Unlike Devin Thomas, Kelly is eager to get to work but his knee won't allow it. While the 'Skins need Kelly as a physical presence opposite Santana Moss, his knee concerns aren't going away anytime soon.

If Kelly can get healthy ans stay healthy, I see some serious potential for him to become a starting WR. He will need to become proficient in the offense and learn all the packages and routes as if he were a 5 year vet, but if he does, look out!

Thomas? well, if you're absent you can't become a starter now can you? 'Nuff said.

I am not happy hearing this news. Hopefully Thomas is working out on his own at least. If he does not show improvement this year, I fear he may be a bust. Kelly on the other hand has just had bad luck with injuries. I hope he heals up.

Hearing this news makes me want to consider going after Michael Crabtree from Texas Tech.

I thought kelly's knee was 100%?! Sheeesh! You just can't believe anything you read these days.

Wouldn't it actually be incorrect to use the plural...Kelly's not a no show, he's not cleared for workouts.

No offense to anyone, but it's labeled voluntary... If they wanted them in they should label it mandatory. It's off season, these guys are prolly too busy spending $$$$ they earned during the season.

Normally I would agree with you. If a veteran like CP doesn't want to attend a voluntary workout I have no problem with it. However, considering that Thomas showed up to camp out of shape last year and didn't produce very much during the season, it's not a good sign that he is missing these workouts.

But the point is that it's voluntary. There's no double standard. You hold CP to the same standard as you hold Thomas or you create animosity. Equal punishment and equal rewards, no exceptions.

I know I previously argued that one player needs to stay out of another player's business, but we all know that will never happen.

That video is from yesterday. The article is referencing the start of OTA's, which was the 16th.

Well, he has been for most of the offeseason I believe. Case in point this article is labeled March 10th:

which is 4 days before offseason conditioning started. So it is logical to me that he was/has been at redskins park. If he wasn't there on opening day I am sure he would have spoken to Zorn about why he wasn't going to be there. I think JLC is trying to stir up concern over nothing. The guy has been putting in his time as far as I can tell.

I hear you FFA - but the fact is even after all the times someone here has pointed out how unreliable the trash from this source is - the same old "fans" here at THN throw some more "stuff" at the wall and hope it sticks before it falls off and becomes the bull's manure it always was.

Yep, it's just typical JLC trying to take another shot at a player or the organization. The fact is, its been reported that Thomas, Kelly AND Davis have been regulars at Redskins Park this offseason. Thomas even mentions it in this video here. And although Kelly can't do a lot of working out yet, he's been there working with the trainers.

It’s early in the offseason, but every day Malcolm Kelly heads to Redskins Park with a purpose.

JLC is just pathetic. Our guys HAVE been there. So what they weren't there a few days last week, they've already notched many hours at the facility. And seeing Thomas catching passes from Campbell tells me he's committed. JLC... what a fake.

Thomas was at Mich St's pro day for the start of voluntary workouts, and I've decided JLC must be a cowboys fan due to the bashing he doles out. He writes-

"the slugfest that features Malcolm Kelly, Devin Thomas and James Thrash duking it out to be the No. 3 wide receiver. It may well be that there is no competition; Thomas and Kelly could struggle just to stay on the field with any consistency -- Kelly for health reasons and Thomas for just being Thomas"

What does he mean being Thomas? WHY DOES OUR HOMETOWN NEWSPAPER EMPLOY THIS GUY?????

What a terrible comparison, Thomas caught passes, blocked, and scored a TD, Lloyd rapped and soaked up MILLIONS. I hope Thomas doesn't get affected by this.

If you've been fortunate enough to watch Thomas chase a ball in the air at top speed, up close, you know this kid belongs in the NFL. By the way, does JLC know he's 21years old? What were you spectacular at when you were 21? answer me that you "Hometown-Sellout"

This happens every year about this time. The sports writers (I use that term lightly.) have nothing else to write about so they, especially JLC, nitpick at any little thing, start rumors and print scoops from "un-named sources" so they can produce something, anything to get into the newspaper.

I read somewhere that JLC is banned from the Redskins building. I don't know if that is true or not but if he is, how can he be a Redskins insider?

I don't think JLC is a Cowboys fan, but he is definitely a Raven's fan. Or, rather, just a Baltimore fan in general.

Man, if true, I'd love to read that one. Hell, if I was Snyder, I'd ban him too, and I've wondered why they haven't in the past. I understand the role of the media and what their job is about, but when it crosses the line of ethics, to the point that it constantly includes blatant lies for the purpose of embarrassing players and the organization, it's time to draw the line.
