ESPN.com's Chris Mortensen reports that Albert Haynesworth's deal with the Redskins is effectively for four years, $48 million.

The $100 million figure looks good to his agent's potential clients, but Haynesworth isn't likely to see the last half of the contract. Haynesworth is due a $29 million "poison pill" in salary and bonuses in 2013, his age 32 season. It's possible that the contract will be renegotiated down the road, but the important number for Haynesworth is the $41 million in guarantees.

Actually, that's not bad...

we won the garuntee money bidding war, and at the same time, let Haynesworth know, that at 32, hell have one more shot a pay-day, either from us or someone else if we release him before the "poisoned pill", but only if he plays up to the billing. This gives us the player we wanted, and gives him the incentive to keep playing hard, which was a concern once he got a fat contract.

I thought the options were Haynesowrth or Hall, Dock, Jason Brown.
I would not have wanted to win the bidding for Jason Brown if the price was 7mil per year anyway...so we actually got both set ups...we just keep rabach at center instead of signing Brown.

Starting to warm up to this....still some work to do though.

if we get the right guy, or the right package in a trade for pick 13, I will consider this offseason a success.

Actually, there really wasn't a bidding war over money. John Clayton reported that all six teams involved were offering the same amount in guaranteed money. It finally got narrowed down to the Buc's and the Skins and Clayton said the Skins organization was more attractive to Haynesworth.

The Giants were one of the six teams trying to get AH. They already have a stout defensive line and we've seen from them what a great d-line can do for your defense and your entire team overall. Could you imagine having to face the Giants d-line twice a year that included Haynesworth?

Glad we got him and Mort's article putting the contract into perspective makes it a little easier to stomach.

Come on guys. You can't actually believe that AH was going to get $100 mil? I miss living in DC because of the smart people but you guys are making me think twice. You can't tell me John Clayton clued you guys in...I just won't believe it.


This may be the best free agency the Skins have had in 10 years. We got one of the best D lineman in the game today. Bar none. Jason Taylor and Carter are going to have a field day. I'm not even going to get into how great Landry is going to play. Has anyone really heard of Kyle Van Denbosh before Haynesworth? And before anyone gives me the BS about grabbing players on their way out of the game. Albert is 27 and Hall is 25.

We get Derick Dockery back to help out our O-Line and we secure Hall. He had more picks in half a season than our whole team. We release often hurt vets in Washington and Springs and gain the cap space to make some great free agency moves.

Now the question is the draft. At 13 I'm still hoping we can scoop up one of the 4 OL that can start next season and be solid. If not I think we can get a
GREAT linebacker with pick 13.

this is a great off-season for a skins fan living in the Philly area... I live in northern DE now, but seeing all these headlines is great... seeing Dawkins leave has already got fans fuming... they also traded Sheppard, and could possibly be losing LJ Smith, Runyan, Thomas... i think all these players got tired of the Philly front-office antics...

at about $3.8 million right now NFLPA site still hasn't updated but $3.8 is in the ballpark, if I'm wrong then they have more than that. The draft picks will eat up more than half of what's left but there is still enough to do another Dockery type deal.

I don"t think that will happen, the contracts that were reworked this year were done in a way that if the player doesn't produce they'll lose out on a big payday next year and may not even make the roster, Samuels is the only one safe (untill next off season anyway) This is Taylor's last year, he has nothing to gain. Casey Rabach's contract could free up $2.3M though

I feel like that every off season. I'd like the season to be a success.

So are you thinking that Taylor's contract will stay the same even though he has reportedly thought he did not play to the level of his contract last year?

I guess what I'm asking is that IF he does stay (AND if the Redskins bring him back) he might be inclined to give us a better effort this season because there is an incentive in that contract for him to do so?

That makes sense in at least 31 locations, I doubt Redskins Park is one of them.

I guess we can put this into the Danny's "see what I learned" file

- we (this is the 'royal' we) signed Taylor who was only recently the NFL defensive MVP and with a great history of playing without being injured - to everyone's amazement he gets injured plus he's asked to play in a position that doesn't suit his talent, oh well - we'll give him another year and he'll be fine.

- then we sign a player with a bad history of injuries but we put an injury clause in the contract (that will help the defensive backfield play better ) - maybe we'll play him in the DT position and he won't get injured like he always did because this is a team that thrives on players reversing their form from their previous years in the NFL
