Woah. I'd welcome him back. And that's freaking hilarious...that's a lot of money to pay a guard to cut them soon after.

Offensive guard Derrick Dockery, who was signed to a seven-year, $49 million deal two years ago by the Buffalo Bills, was informed Thursday he is being released.

AFC East blog

ESPN.com's Tim Graham writes about all things AFC East in his division blog.

• Blog network: NFL Nation

Dockery was one of the key prizes in the free agent class of 2007. His agent, Todd France, was able to get him a Steve Hutchinson-type package to leave the Washington Redskins for Buffalo. His seven-year, $49 million deal was the highest salary for a guard at the time.

During the first two years of the contract, Dockery was guaranteed $18.5 million. A change in offensive line coaches may have affected his status.

Dockery, who will go on the waiver wire at 4 p.m. ET, could go to the top of the free agent guard list in free agency.

The 28-year-old Dockery, who played in college at Texas, entered the league as third-round pick with the Redskins and has 77 career starts.

That was probably the best non-signing the Skins made in the last 5 years. (Although the Chad Johnson non-trade is also in the running. :puke: ) It would be interesting to see if he'd want to come back here (with a huge pay cut, of course). I could see him stepping in and contributing.

I'd love to have him back if the cost isn't too high, we need to upgrade our OG in a bad way and I think he's an upgrade over what we have currently.

Smoot ran off and got paid then came back, why not DD.

Maybe that's how "the Danny" plans it

Funny how we get no credit for NOT overpaying him to have stayed.

Robert Royal was released as well but fortunately, we have added talent to the TE spot since his departure so there's not really any room for him.

Skins Expected to Go After Dockery
Jason Reid and Jason La Canfora report:

The Redskins have expressed interest in former Skins guard Derrick Dockery, who was released today by the Buffalo Bills, and, according to league sources, are expected to pursue him this weekend.

That would be pretty sweet if we can get him for what he should have been asking for in the 1st place... I wonder how long it'd take him to supplant Pete. It'll be nice to have him pulling for us again since Pete is kinda slow.

His addition buys us some time on the o-line. We still need to address it immediately tho.

It would be nice to have Dock come back and replce Kendall. He already knows the blocking scheme and has worked with Buges before. It seems like a logical fit.

It might be too much pride for Dock to swallow.

I'd bet he could swallow a lot of pride for $3 million.
