Redskins could pursue LB Angelo Crowell

To replace Marcus Washington at strongside linebacker, the Washington Redskins could pursue Buffalo's Angelo Crowell as a short-term option.

In three years as a starter, he posted 119, 82 and 126 tackles but missed last year when he opted to have knee surgery late in the preseason. Even though he would have been out only four to six weeks, the Bills objected to the operation and placed him on injured reserve. A league source said there's "no chance" Crowell will be back in Buffalo.

Crowell will turn 28 in August. If the Redskins sign him, that would allow them to address their offensive and defensive line issues with the No. 13 pick.

- "Ugh" and "Seriously?" were the responses of those at the combine when told the Redskins might bring Jason Taylor back. It makes no sense fiscally or performancewise. He made 37 tackles (according to the NFL) in 526 snaps (according to The Washington Times). Taylor said late in the season, "This dog can still hunt." But what he wouldn't admit is that the hunting conditions weren't optimum.

If Taylor is back, it's up to coordinator Greg Blache to create situations in which Taylor can be productive. They started moving him around the field late in the season - on the same side as Andre Carter and in a two-point stance over a guard - to increase his production.

"There wasn't ever enough time for him to feel comfortable," coach Jim Zorn said.

- In addition to having high expectations for receivers Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly, Zorn plans to use tight end Fred Davis dramatically more this year. He played only 111 of 1,026 offensive plays as a rookie.

"We're glad we [drafted Davis]," Zorn said. "He's a tremendous athlete. He's going to help this football team. ... It was an excellent pick."

- Zorn said the Redskins' sack (24) and interception (13) totals will improve but defended the lack of pressure on first and second downs by pointing out the defense was eighth against the run.

Getty Images Linebacker Angelo Crowell had 327 tackles in three seasons as a starter for Buffalo.

"We had good athletes and our scheme was very run-limiting," he said. "It's not cautious, but it's disciplined. ... We would all like a much stronger pass rush on third down, and we're working on improving that. We're not satisfied with the lack of sacks and the lack of interceptions. We're going to get better in those two areas."

- Texas defensive end/linebacker Brian Orakpo injured his hamstring during Monday's workout after he was fourth in the 40-yard dash (4.70 seconds), second in the vertical jump (39.5 inches) and seventh in bench press (31) among linemen.

Count on the Redskins attending the Longhorns' pro day in Austin on March 25, regardless of whether they have addressed the strongside linebacker opening.

Albert Haynesworth will be a Washington Redskin

Remember back on December 23rd when I told you guys that Scott Pioli would be the GM for the Kansas City Chiefs before anyone had it? I got it from a very well-connected league source. That source is talking (actually texting) again.

This time around he tells me that the Washington Redskins will break the bank to sign Albert Haynesworth. The Titans could come over the top of the Redskins deal as well, but my guess is that the Redskins will let Haynesworth get the best offer possible from the Titans and then "better deal" it. My source tells me to look for a contract that could break $100 million with an average of $15 million to $16 million per. My guy is almost never wrong and Dan Snyder gets what he wants. As a Texan fan, I would really be devastated to see Haynesworth leave the division ... only, no I wouldn't. Beat it, Haynesworth.

Only Redskins fans could get Albert Haynesworth and feel bad about it.

This overspending thing is blown way out of porportion: its not our money
so who cares if a guy like Albert gets 16 per, we gave Jason taylor 8 just to look pretty.

My bottom line is having the best 53 come Sept. thats it, so getting Haynesworth to me is a huuuuuuge victory for our team.

You mean the best 9 or 10, with 43 scrubs as teammates.

Gibbs4life, no offense, but you would suck worse than Snyder as an owner. It's fine that you're a fan and you just put the blinders on every year and cheer no matter what. Fine, good for you. But many of the rest of us actually follow the teams every move and ponder whether they are using the cap money on players wisely. We ponder the impact of a 15MIL DT who has never played more than 13 games in a season, who has a reputation for taking plays off during a game. Instead of 15 MIL on one player, could we get a decent OLB, OT and DT for that money? What will we do in 3 years, midway through this behemoth Haynesworth contract, when he's turning 32 and just to release him would cost us 20MIL because of the signing bonus? Nevermind Gibbs4life, Hail to the Redskins! Superbowl here we come! (not)

I need some offense rumors. As many holes as there are on defense, they seem to hold up pretty well.

Ok fleetus, without getting into personal attacks, you would suck worse

You follow the teams every move? I have twice your posts and have followed closer than you...just know that.

And if you really knew anything about the team you'd know we need him.
How'd we do in sacks in 08? Qb pressure? how about int's ? for 16 mil a yr we would see significant spike in those #'s

Anyone think Brandon Jacobs mows over Albert Haynesworth like he did Laron Landry?

Our defense needs an intimidator. The closest we have is London and he's productive but not physically intimidating. When we lost Sean we lost a tenacity and ferocity, London has helped that but a guy like haynesworth lines up and says no your not running here and yes I will flatten you.

Fisher4Life, what is your obsession with number of posts, and please
stop referring to the skins as we...you referred to the titans as we on the other thread.

Man Law: you may refer to a sports team as we, given you are invested, emotionally and financially (tickets/gear) - however, you may never refer to more than one team in the same sport as we.

What in the world are you talking about?? Landry is a safety and Haynesworth is a 300-plus DT. That is a stupid comparison.

If we had a run stuffer on the DL we would'nt be counting on Landry to bring down Jacobs at full steam, thats the point.

Thanks dad, can I stay up past 9 too?

Since I was born and raised and live here in Nashville IN THE AFC I do pull for the Titans and when they meet I side with the Skins winning the tie breaker. I used 'We' referring to we the city of Nashville not We the Titans. Point is I've seen with my eyes Albert lead a defense to an almost undefeated season.

Nashville?...Nashville?....oh yeah, I remeber now

That was a wild night

I live in Nashville too, and remember the first 4-5 years of Haynesworth's career when he was constantly showing up overweight and under-achieving. I understand that he was dominant the last 2 (contract) years, but my concern is if he will be dominant for the next 4-7 years. He'll need to be to make a $100 million contract feasable. are there ANY examples of guys his size that were still playing at an elite ($15 million per) level when they were 32-35? If he can't make it through a full season now, what are his chances later? if he can only play 65% of the snaps now, etc...

and yes, if you have 2 favorite teams, you have none dude. I'm so sick of the Titans being shoved down my throat I could :puke:

hopefully this is all just rumor. if not, I think our chances of Danny ever learning are gone. this guy has every red-flag there is.

I didn't know Landry plays on the DL and weighs 300 lbs.

Perhaps it would be a huge and dumb mistake to sign Haynesworth, it could be further proof that we have an insane dictator running the the team and some of us would love that to be proved true.... but you know its kind of nice to look really cool and flashy in the off-season, getting some overprized beast could make us all think happy thoughts about mashing our rivals. Last couple of years we have been all quiet and demure in the off-season it was dull and we ended up losing anyway...lets get with the bling and have fun!
