This might be a little clearer. For example, since Samuels contract was reworked last year, if he were to be cut after June 1 his cap number will be about $9.5 Million. The remaining amount owed on his contract would be accelerated to the '10 cap, about another $9.5 Million.

Doesn't matter if it's clear if you read it wrong. according to the link...
Samuels will cost $9,378,000 against the cap in 09 - to release him would cost $9,492,000 or $114,000 more than what he'd cost to keep. Maybe this guy rounded his numbers up but it pretty close to what I posted.

But because the CBA hasn't been reworked or extented there is NO June 1st impact to the 2010 salary cap when releasing players after that date. In other words no matter when a player is released ALL dead money will count this year

This is so cool. Clearly we can cut them all and fit under the cap. I was so worried about that.

The Skins are about $4M over the cap today with about 45 players under contract. If they cut everybody they will shave about $6.5M off the cap. That's $2.5M under the cap and more than enough to sign ALL four of our draft picks. Then they can be cut and the team should break even :D

so, it looks like we could be about 24M under the cap by releasing:

Rabach
Springs
Taylor
Daniels
Washington
Griffin

...that would let us go after Haynesworth, D Hall and Dansby (who I think would be a great replacement for Marcus Washington)

But wouldn't we still be on the hook for the pro-rated signing bonuses...do we know what kind of dead money it will create like 1nik said with no CBA it will all be counted this year??

P.S. Snyder + Jones+ no salary cap =

These numbers include the unallocated pro-rations being due at the time of release, so this group would free up about $20M (minus the seven million already on the 2009 dead cap). And would have no impact on 2010 figures.

Restricked Free Agent - currently not under contract but should be tendered before Free Agency starts

So becuase they have no CBA in 2010 and all money to include pro-rated bonus count in 2009 that means no dead cap money??

No pushing dead cap into future years like the Skins like to do. They'll have to pay as they go unless a new CBA deal is done.

Posts: 5,662 Current Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2009

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In this thread, CrazyCanuck and I will periodically update the Salary Cap status of the Washington Redskins. As players restructure, resign, are signed as free agents, drafted, cut, and traded, we will do our best to keep the community updated on the cap implications of each transaction. This thread is also designed to house analysis and insight regarding the Redskins' likely course of action in free agency and the draft. The salary cap can often provide an indication of the team's intended approach to free agency - aggressive vs passive, etcetera.

In short, the numbers in the table below illustrate that the Redskins are currently $3.0 million over the cap. The moves listed below illustrate how The Warpath expects the team to operate in the offseason.

KEY POINT: The scenario presented below assumes that no new Collective Bargaining Agreement is reached, meaning 2009 becomes the Final Capped Season. Under these rules, the Redskins will be severely limited in their ability to clear cap space via contract restructures, primarily attributable to the 30% Rule (The 30% Rule). If a new CBA is indeed reached, it is assumed the 30% Rule will not apply, and the Redskins will be capable of clearing enough cap space to go on a major free agent spending spree (if they so choose).

Numbers presented below are in millions:

Quote:
Current Status
2009 Cap Fees for Redskins' Top 51: $119.3
2009 Redskins Dead Cap Money: $6.7
2009 Redskins Cap Total: $126.0
2009 NFL Salary Cap: $123.0
Current 2009 Redskins Cap Room: ($3.0)

Expected Contract Restructures - savings(hit)
Andre Carter: $0.83
Antwaan Randle El: $0.59
Laron Landry: $0.42
Santana Moss: $0.31
Phillip Daniels: $0.28
Casey Rabach: $0.18
Devin Thomas: $0.12
Total Expected Contract Restructures: $2.1
2009 Redskins Cap Room after Contract Restructures: ($0.9 million)

Expected Roster Moves - savings(hit)
Cut Marcus Washington: $4.5
Total Expected Roster Moves: $4.5
2009 Redskins Cap Room after Contract Restructures & Roster Moves: $3.6 million

Expected Contract Extensions/Renegotiations - savings(hit)
Shawn Springs (paycut or extension) $3.0
Jason Taylor (paycut or extension) $4.0
Total Expected Contract Extensions/Renegotiations: $7.0
2009 Redskins Cap Room after Contract Restructures, Roster Moves, Extensions & Renegotiations: $10.6 million

Expected Signings - savings(hit)
DeAngelo Hall ($4.5)
Pete Kendall ($1.5)
Anthony Montgomery ($1.0)
Kedric Golston ($1.0)
Demetric Evans ($1.0)
Reed Doughty ($1.0)
Kicker ($1.0)
Ethan Albright ($0.83)
Rookies ($3.5)
Players Removed from Top 51 $5.3
Total Expected Signings ($10.0)
Warpath’s Projected 2009 Redskins Cap Room: $0.6 million

Other Ways to Reduce the Cap Number:
·Cut or trade Shawn Springs instead of extending/renegotiating (clear another $3 million)
·Cut or trade Jason Taylor instead of extending/renegotiating (clear another $4.5 million)
·Cut or trade Phillip Daniels instead of extending him (clear another $2 million)
·Cut or trade Cornelius Griffin (clear another $3.6 million)
·Cut or trade Casey Rabach (clear another $2.3 million)
·Cut or trade James Thrash (clear another $0.85 million)
·Get players to agree to push 2009 & 2010 base salary into 2011 without receiving additional money up front (pie in the sky)
·Get players to agree to actual cuts in pay (keep dreaming)

Quote:
Notes:

·Brandon Lloyd counts $5.3 million in deadcap space.

Summary of Executed Transactions:

Actual Transactions vs Expected will be monitored here.

Washington Redskins Rookie Pool Allotment:
When available, the rookie pool will be posted here.

Unless the Redskins can restructure contracts in a creative manner, a manner of which I am not aware, then I anticipate the Redskins will be very limited in Free Agency.

If it came down to it, I'd rather have haynesworth than D Hall, we have a logjam at CB (dont forget tryon) and pairing Haynesworth with Monty would be nice.

Sorry if i misunderstood what you were posting, but your response begs another question.
Since the CBA has not been reworked and there is no June 1st impact to the 2010 cap, does this mean that any players released, the prorated bonus money for 2009 and beyond will ALL be applied to 2009?
Example in Samuels case, (I am not picking on him for any reason by the way) he is still owed $9.483 million in pro rated bonus money, not including the figures you posted above. So, if he were to be let go, would that mean he would count over $18 million on the 2009 cap?

The Dancing Bear, Honestly ...I don't know. I'm not the CAP guru. I really don't think we would have to count his 2009 and 2010 salary together as a penalty if we cut him. I beleive it's just keep him a 9.3 or cut him at 9.4 and lose 114,000 dollars. I think the new rules keep us from exstending the players contracts in some manner for this year alone. Then in 2010 we can sign who we want for however much we want for as long as we want cause CAP will be gone.

I'm not sure where you are get $18 million from, If the Jun 1 rule were in effect Cutting Samuel after Jun 1 would have saved the Skins the $5M this year and they would have $4.378 million in dead money this year and $5.114 million in dead money next year

I listed it would cost the Redskins $113,667 to release Samuels, Here's why: I'll round the numbers up

His total cap hit in 2009 is $9,378,000 because his basy salary is $5 million there is a $2,978,000 pro rated signing bonus money due plus he has $1.4 million in pro rated option bonus money due. If he is cut he won't get the $5 million but the 2009 proration would be due along with $3,714,000 in signing bonus proration that is currently spread out over the next four years and the last hit for the option bonus ($1.4M) that's set to hit in 2010. If you add up what he's been paid that hasn't been accounted for as of yet you would get $9,492,000 or $114,000 more than it will cost to have him on the roster.
