New England Patriots Signed free agent offensive lineman Corbin Lacina, who had been with the Minnesota Vikings; acquired defensive tackle Ted Washington from the Chicago Bears for a 2004 fourth-round draft pick.

Kansas City Chiefs Announced the retirement of tackle Willie Jones; agreed to terms with free agent quarterback Scott Covington, who had been with the St. Louis Rams.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Signed defensive tackle Anthony McFarland to a five-year contract extension.

Houston Texans Acquired fullback Deon Dyer from the Miami Dolphins for a 2004 conditional draft pick.

Detroit Lions Released running back Rafael Cooper, fullback Reggie Holts and tight end Tywan Mitchell.

Chicago Bears Signed punter-kicker Pat Dunne; claimed fullback Jason McKie off waivers; waived wide receiver Andre Forde and cornerback James Thornton.

Cincinnati Bengals Waived defensive tackle Mario Monds, tight end Derek Smith, fullback Terry Witherspoon, center Dustin McQuivey, linebacker Rodney Thomas and wide receiver Adam Ziesel.

Denver Broncos Agreed to terms with coach Mike Shanahan on a three-year contract extension through 2008.

New England Patriots Released cornerback Otis Smith.

Washington Redskins Placed defensive tackle Brandon Noble on injured reserve; waived defensive back Rashidi Barnes and punter Brent Bartholomew.

New York Jets Placed guard Tom Nutten on the reserve/retired list; signed Cedric James; waived defensive backs Deshaun Hill, Will Hunter, Kevin Knight and kicker Danny Kight.

Houston Texans Announced that fullback Jarrod Baxter will miss the season with a sprained left foot.
