WHAT IF COLT ......

....beats out Jason during 2009 training camp? Any thoughts on that. The Skins are NOT high on re-signing Jcam (as of now)....
What are tho possibilities that Colt can OUTSHINE Jason during off season training....?
It’s evident that Campbell needs to have a strong season in 2009 to secure a long-term future in Washington.
Campbell is scheduled to become a free agent after the 2009 season.

I think JC will be on a short leash next year..not sure if CB was Zorn's guy...but for better or worst Zorn is married to them and their play will have a big impact on his future with the Redskins

I think if Colt is really, really impressive in training camp, there's still no way he can win the job from Campbell.
He can shorten the leash, and if Campbell struggles badly he could possibly take over mid season... but the players love Campbell... I don't know what kind of support Colt has.

I remember hollering at the TV because we drafted Colt. I wanted Booty, Josh Johnson, or Andre Woodson...
Now Woodson is on the Giants practice squad, and Colt looks like he may be slightly better than Booty or Johnson.
IIRC though, Brennan was a straight Zorn pick... and for some reason I trust him with QB's.

Just my thoughts: I think Z saw "something" in Colt during the draft, etc.... and took a shot. This will be a FULL off season for the Z man. He can better access his QBs.
Maybe Colt reminded Zorn of himself....raw talent, hard worker, persevering, and an underdog.
Remember, Z was undrafted from Cal Poly Pomona, started the Seahawks Franchise, became rookie of the year during his first year.
Talk about underdog....

The only reason I ask is because I don't think it's fair for Zorn to be judged on his success with JC. JC was not his pick I do think he was brought here mainly (as OC) to mentor JC...I think Zorn deserves better.

I agree with the top part. Snyder and Cerrato probaly want JC to succeed because he was their pick and they took 2 WR's and a TE for him in the draft last year. But I think that if Zorn likes what he sees out of Colt in training camp and if JC and the team are doing bad by week 8 or 9, that he will give Colt a shot for the last part of the year.

I agree. Colt is the best QB in the history of DC. Didn't anybody else see him in those preseason games? He was almost as good as Danny Wuerffel!

JC will definitely fail if the "genius" HC continues to try to make him into a 6'0, short-strided QB. JC, IMO, is not suited for the quick step drop and throw. He's big and lanky and would be better served in an offense that takes advantage of his height, legs and strong arm. Not him crouching down to 5'5 to get under center and then try to get out quick to make a quick throw.
If Zorn is this great QB coach that everyone claims he is, then he should be able to adjust for JC's lanky stride and throwing motion. JC has the ability to learn and make adjustments, hence, the drop off in his fumbling but to try and make him into a smaller quick step QB is only going to make it worse for him. CB is smaller and probably better suited to run what Zorn is trying to run. But he ain't ready or even close to being ready....

Jcam may not last past the 2009 season.... read between the line as Vinny is speaking:
"I think that Jason will be back," he said during his press conference. "He's the starting quarterback, you know? And I think what you do is you just go year to year, and you have to evaluate everything."
Later, asked specifically whether the club would pursue a contract extension with Campbell -- who would become a restricted free agent after the 2009 season -- Cerrato said, "Everything's got to be evaluated." He reiterated that it was too early to answer such long-term questions.

What is between the lines? That's straightforward.
I like Jason Campbell, but he obviously hasn't put it all together yet. It's about 50-50 (or 60-40) whether he does or not.
Even his most ardent supporters wouldn't give him an extension now, there's no reason to. Who the hell would throw big money at him next season unless he has a great year in 2009?
It's not like Campbell is going anywhere so why rush an extension? Just let him play 2009 (a contract year is always nice incentive) and if he has a good year, and we win then get him signed up.

I agree this is a business the Skins have every right to take a wait and see approach...or signed him now. If JC has a big year he will be rewarded if not we will part waymost likely. It like the Champ Bailey situation he wanted a contract a year out...Campbell can ask now but IMO he doesn't have the leverage Champ had.

Heh. Actually, I think the fact it's JLC makes it noteworthy. You know that weasel tried his damn best to get anyone...ANYONE to say something rotten about JC. If the punter had said something, he would have reported it as one of his infamous unnamed sources.

Having said that, I don't think Campbell will handle the inmense pressure he will have next year. You must take into account that another veteran QB will probably be here by next training camp. One that surely knows Zorn's system inside-out. Collins will go.
Factor that and you have an enormous pressure for Campbell from day 1.
Hope he shines next year. It will be a very interesting process, regardless of the out come.

Who knows Zorn's system besides the '08 redskins? I think it would be hard to find a quarterback who knows more about Zorn's system than the ones currently on the only team he has ever coached.

It's hard to believe Colt wouldn't start if he blew Jason away in training camp. I wouldn't mind seeing it either.
Yeah he played against backups in preseason, but Colt brought an energy to the huddle that Jason just doesn't. Our offense (yeah yeah, 2nd/3rd string) seemed to play faster and fired up.
