Official WR switch? thread

They don't get open deep anymore. When they do they drop it. They drop short passes too that kill drives. They get pushed out of all their routes. They can't go up and make a play or make a tough catch. Get em out. Others on this board have made me notice that you can't blame the entire offense for being terrible, you have to blame one thing. So i'm going with WR. We already have the Qb thread, so someone should start an O-line thread. And a play calling thread. Heck, maybe somebody thinks its the running game.

How about the "Let's end these stupid, repetitive, nonsensical threads" thread? It is really getting old seeing people post the same type of crap over and over.
Our entire offense is struggling. Jason hasn't been great. The O-line has sucked. The receivers have dropped balls and not completed routes. The only bright spot has been Portis. Our D, though they have been good, has struggled at times too. We have hardly any pass rush, and it is not only JT's fault. There is no push up the middle, and he should be on the right side. We give up too many yards at the end of the game using our unpreventative prevent defense. Our DBs have dropped picks. We have missed opportunities.
I hate to hear the ignorant statement that the D did its job when they missed an easy pick 6. The job of the D is to stop the offense and to score when given the opportunity. The DB's job is to keep the receiver from catching the ball and to intercept if given the opportunity. To say that Carlos broke up the pass, so he did his job, when he should have taken a pick for 6 shows your arrogance.
I was thrilled with the win yesterday, but we should have scored more points. I support my skins 16-0 or 0-16. I will continue to support them. We will go win next week and can go into the offseason on a positive note. We can fix our problems in the offseason if our front office acts wisely.
So please, can we stop with these annoying repetitive threads?

Official? Whats up with all these "official" threads?
- The ARE is the main dropping culprit.
- Jason doesn't hit his WR's in stride, thats a big problem.

Remember that pass to Davis in the first quarter against the eagles? Davis was literally all by himself with no one within 10 yards of him. JC stepped up pulled the trigger and missed him by 15 yards, throwing the ball out of bounds. It was embarrassing.
I think once we get a QB, we can talk about our wide receivers. Don't get me wrong ARE is the worst, but he seemed to do just fine in Pittsburg.

I don't recall, but wasn't he a slot receiver over there?

He IS being play out of position here. At best he should be in the slot. IMHO, he needs to be our 4th WR.
If Kelly really shines, we need his big body to be a consistent presecence at #2,
Thomas....I love his fire and determination. I want him in the slot, he has shown to have decent hands.
ARE replaces Thrash as our 4th WR. THat our cut him. Either or is fine with me...

I like the idea as Thomas/Kelly starting and Moss in the slot. Imagine Moss vs nickel backs and safeties

It'd be deadly depending on the QB. Deadly for Moss or deadly for the opponent.

C'mon, you know it's true. I don't disagree with you and it's fun to imagine these things but would it be effective on the field? I dunno. I don't think he'd survive. He's already getting hung out to dry enough as it is. If we have precision at the QB position where he's being hit in stride and not having to wait or have the ball thrown behind him or having to leap for the ball... then yeah it'd be a freaking awesome position.

If I would have posted this is fantasy football, would you have let me have my dream?? I know he would get killed across the middle, but I think he's our best option at slot receiver. ARE drops too many balls, Thrash, well, I don't have to get in to that one. Who else? Davis maybe in a 2 WR, 2 TE set.

I don't want that situation to be fantasy, Id like for it to be real.
Did you see the Bears game last night? They used a big athletic TE at the WR position from time to time. Zorn needs to learn how to use his players better. Davis could be used in a similar fashion.

i believe that thomas/kelly is the future. i also think that colt brennan needs to play the last game just to see wut he can do.. we cant make the playoffs......... i think maybe we should trade moss while he still has some gas left.... ARE is worthless. i think that thomas should be punt/kick returner. moss would be a good slot receiver but he is to big of a name to be a slot receiver.... he can start somewhere else........ kelly will be an awesome redzone target......... thomas has great speed.... he had a 68 yard TD that was nullified by a holding penalty...... the rookies that we drafted are the future of the redskins...... we need to draft some big OL..... i just wish we would cut ARE and trade moss..... or trade them both but you wont get much out of ARE........ brennan showed like he knew wut he was doing during the preseason...... wait till he has 3 years of the same offense(if we keep zorn)... he would be a beast!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah I do. I wouldn't go that far to ask for a jersey but I do enjoy watching the team. I one of the fans that doesn't quite get the hate that is between the beltways. I enjoy watching both teams and will be pulling for the Ravens in the playoffs.

Moss almost leads the league in drops
If Campbell throws behind them and they drop it, thats one thing. But most of the time they just drop balls that hit them directly in the hands.

Is there some type of statistical evidence to where the balls were positioned when they drop them? I'd love to see that.
Most drops I've seen from Moss are high or behind him.

Drop stats are really pretty low. They only take into account obvious drops. Here is the NFC drops.
Calvin Johnson DET 15 9
T-2 Terrell Owens DAL 15 8
T-2 Roddy White ATL 15 8
T-4 Marques Colston NO 10 7
T-4 Rashied Davis CHI 15 7
T-4 Santana Moss WAS 15 7
T-4 Muhsin Muhammad CAR 15 7
T-8 Bernard Berrian MIN 15 6
T-8 Warrick Dunn TB 14 6
T-8 Madison Hedgecock NYG 15 6
T-8 Koren Robinson SEA 11 6
T-8 Steve Smith CAR 13 6
T-13 Reggie Bush NO 10 5
T-13 John Carlson SEA 15 5
T-13 Vernon Davis SF 15 5
T-13 Donald Driver GB 15 5
T-13 Bobby Engram SEA 12 5
T-13 Frank Gore SF 13 5
T-13 Amani Toomer NYG 15 5
T-13 Bobby Wade MIN 15 5
T-13 Jason Witten DAL 15 5
The first number is games, the second is drops. Obviously, a lot more balls have hit moss in the hands and been missed than that. So the stat is usually pretty low. Except for Edwards who has 16
Someone needs to watch ARE closer because he should be on top of this list. Roddy White shouldn't count because he is always open and is always being thrown at. The same is kind of true for T.O. but he also has terrible hands on easy passes.

I grew up outside of DC, went to college at College Park, and then spent the next 7 years in Baltimore.
Pretty much people from DC feel sorry for those who live in Baltimore. People from Baltimore hate DC because they know they live in an inferior town.
I would normally like the Ravens (strong D, running attack), and I respect the organization (it's very well run), but I can't stand the Ravens because...they still have the Brian Billick-stench associated with them. Billick is possibly the most self-aggrandizing coach in NFL history. He's easily the smartest man alive (and possibly the smartest man in history). Just ask him!

Marketing hype as far as I'm concerned. They're AFC so they really don't matter to me in the least. As stated, I do like to watch them play b/c their D just swallows teams up.

I've discovered there is a great deal of hatred coming from Baltimore to DC but not as much in the other direction.

I'm from the southern beltway, I guess that's why I don't see it.

Well, at least in a balanced criticism I agree with your perspective on the WRs. We probably aren't going to see a top-5 season from Moss ever again, and I'd be much happier if ARE and Thrash weren't taking up roster space next year. I love both players as members of a team and as people, but they will not help us get to a Superbowl next year IMO. ARE for his cap hit relative to production, and Thrash purely because of the roster spot.
