Let's just look at Portis for instance as it compares to Bailey, who was traded to get Portis. As I said, Bailey was on the cap ledger for a $6.8 million tender. He moves on, and Portis, who signed an eight-year deal for $50 million -- got an $18 million bonus. Divide the number of years (eight) into the signing bonus ($18 million) to calculate the cap charge for the bonus each year ($2.25 million) and add it to the salary that could be as low as $380,000 because Portis only has two credited seasons. Now his cap charge is $2.63 million, which is $4.2 million less than Bailey was on the books for.

finally. a reporter that thinks before he speaks. :celebrate:

Good, 'cause I won't try to sell it to you. That was a "Broncos-perspective" idea. See, in Denver, great RB's do apparently grow on trees, but great cover-corners are hard to come by up and over there.
I think this worked out for the best for everybody involved. Champ got his money, and we got our threat. (Threat(s) ?)

This will all work out just great for both teams! Denver's system generates great running backs while our system have generated great corner backs (Darrell Green has been our backbone for the last 20+ years and then Bailey after him). So this is a natural fit and trade. Plus look at the money! the broncos not only have to pay him $27 mil over the next 3 years but also have to pay the 2nd round pick they got from us as well. This was a smart business decision on the skins' part.. so was the Kearse non-signing
