Not only is he stealing a paycheck. He's stealing a HUGE HUGE
paycheck.
What are our options with this guy, I'm guessing there is no chance
getting a #2 for him, what team would be stupid enough to do that?

I want to trade for Peppers, or Mario Williams..... stop dreaming.

Nobody's trading for him. Our best bet is that he gets a huge deal to star in a bad action film with Jean Claude Van Damm and he decides to retire.

Between him and Carter they have 4 sacks total. Pure garbage.

If we can get a good DT, then I can almost guarantee his numbers will improve next year. Still not worthy of his huge paycheck, though..

I've been defending Taylor, but it's getting harder and harder every week. The pass rush by the defensive line is laughable and pretty embarrassing.

Vet is right, while I am not defending Taylor at all but I agree his numbers will improve next year with a Haynesworth type player. If you notice now, IF we get pressure from the edges, the QB steps up and the offensive tackles just keep pushing the DEs up the field. Now if we get a stud DT in free agency, then the QB will not be able to step up in the pocket and the OTs will not be able to keep allowing the DEs to get up the field.
Until we get a pass rush from up the middle, our DEs will not be sucessful simply bbecause the QB will step up in the pocket.

I'm sorry to rain on all the hater's parade here but the issues on defense are not the fault of Taylor anymore than the offensive concerns are because of Campbell - this is a team game and when the right guys are playing together out there good things will happen.
A lot of fans here need to have a little more patience - this team got out to a good start and too many fans did not want to accept that it was going to take another year - we are not as good as our early record and we are not as bad as some here are making us out to be.
Taylor needs to have others around him just like Campbell does. Both lines need help and hopefully we will continue to use the draft - quick fixes are part of the reason we are where we are.

I hope so. He looked horribly slow out there last week.

Do you think Taylor would have had the career he had if he'd have played in the NFC East??

Anyone still think he is worth a second rounder?? There were a ton of people on here in love with JT ---- even up to about 2 weeks ago. I said it then, I'll say it now, he wasn't worth a second, there was a reason the Dolphins and the big tuna were getting rid of him, and our front-office, yet again, showed they were the suckers in the room on that deal.

Possibly, yes. He would have become acclimated to it.

He'd be a sack machine if we had good interior DL's, they don't even have to be dominant, they just have to be good...

Since when is JT being double-teamed? I don't care if we had 3 other great D-linemen... unless they leave him unblocked he's not getting there... at least he hasn't shown the ability to win a one-on-one matchup so far... maybe I'm missing something...

I'm pretty sure that defining a defensive lineman as good is intimating that he is dominant. If you do not dominate the players you are playing against then you most likely are not a good defensive lineman.
The reality of both offensive and defensive line play is that it is more important to have players playing together and making the other players around them better than it is to have a couple of "studs" and then a bunch of guys that don't complement the great players.
Good players can only become great players with other player's help - conversely a great player becomes only a good player without help from the guys around him. This is especially important with your offensive lineman and defensive lineman.
In my opinion we have issues with both of our lines primarily because of age and the players are not playing together and executing what they are being coached to do.
I am concerned that Bugel may not be back next year because I do not think he will be as enthused about the changes we have to make.
Conversely I think Blache knows what he needs and I think we will see some youth and some FAs added to our defensive line next year. I also think that Taylor will be more effective with better players around him - let's face it he has to be better than what we have seen this year - I still think he can be an asset with a better suporting cast.

I didn't say he was DT'd the QB simply steps up in that nice warm pocket away from his edge. If we had good DL's that pocket would not be there and the QB would not be able to step up.

ah, I see... well if we had that kind of pressure up the middle, we wouldn't need to pay JT the big money at all... any of our DEs could get sacks in that scenario... that would be nice though, then we could have a defensive end in there that play's the run as well as the pass, and he'd still get sacks because of all that pressure up the middle

LoL, you guys are half empty, I'm saying half full, but at least we're all looking at the same glass. It's not collapsing pocket, just no room to step up, just either hold the line of scrimmage or a yard from it, not like now where they are 2-3 yards off it after the snap and there's a nice comfy pocket in there.

Well, knowing ex-post that he would suffer two injuries, one just absolutely bizarre, this isn't a very insightful question. It's like the commercial they keep running where the guy says, "Ladies, have you ever said, 'I feel fat today?'" Um...duh. If you can show me ex-ante where you predicted that at the time we made the trade I'll be impressed. Otherwise this is just Monday morning quarterbacking.
But moving on from what wasn't known to what isn't known now, no way I would cut him now. I would go into camp next year and if Zorn and his staff feel we've got a team with potential to go to the playoffs and he's healthy again I would definitely keep a guy who can do what he can. If we're in a re-building year or he's not healthy I'd probably trade him for what we can get, which I'm sure would be a lot less then a second rounder at that point, if anything.

Our defense is not the problem - we are not bad and could be better on D but our offense puts both our team and the teams we play in situations that it is very difficult to win.
Our defense is still ranked # 10 gainst the run; # 5 total and # 6 scoring. these are not bad numbers for a team that many consider to be not a very good team

There are still obvious deficiencies in the Defense. Not near what the Offense has, but it is not perfect.

I think that you bring up a good point. I understand the argument about needing upgrades at DT. Without DTs that can collapse the pocket a qb can simply step to avoid an outside pass rush. Our DT's are totally incapable of generating a pass rush. However, JC isn't being double teamed and isn't getting into the backfield, so the argument that he would be doing much better with better DT"s isn't very convincing. If he was getting into the backfield but the qb was stepping up in the pocket to avoid him then that argument would fly, but that simply isn't the case right now.

I have heard this point said before, but seems appropriate here. Part of the problem is he is playing on the wrong side. One would like to think that if you play a position on the line, right or left side shouldn't really matter, but we have seen time and again that this just is not the case. Look at Heyer. He was strong on the left side in for Samuels, but struggled with Jansen's side. Taylor has struggled to adjust to rushing from the left side. They need to try him out on the right side, and finish the season with Carter on the left, or rotate Carter/Taylor, and put Evans and a rotation (Alexander maybe) on the left.

I do agree with the points about somebody to push up the middle too, which would free up some space for Taylor.
