Do Redskins Fans Care About Playing the Ravens?

I'm sure Skins fans care about every game, but is a match-up with the Ravens as significant a rivalry as it could be?
Does it even matter?

I think its overrated. They hate us for blocking baseball, we hate them for blocking football. I think it's popular because you get bragging rights to local fans of the opposing team due to the close vicinity.

Well I hate the Ravens with a passion. So much that I would say I would cheer for the pukes if they played the Ravens, thats how much I hate them. I went to school at Towson, so I had to see the bandwagin fans talk trash every day about how good they were when they know squat about the team. I have to hear their fans talk trash about the Redskins when 10 yrs ago, they were Redskins fans. I could give 2 craps about their team, I just HATE their fans. 95% of them are idiots who say they are better "because we are" and have no justification. All they know is that "Ed Reed is awesome". They are white trash and wear purple...PURPLE!!!!!!
OK Im done venting.....but yess this is a big rivalry for me atleast

There is no rivalry with the Ravens. Our rivals all lie in the NFC East. This "rivalry" it more the fact that the city of Baltimore feels inferior to DC --- as it should.

I was born in the District and lived all over the place but my formative years were in Maryland and D.C. I guess I am a minority because I was perfectly content to be a Redskins fan and an Orioles fan all my life. I couldn't care less for the Nationals or the Ravens - I still love my Skins and O's. I have also lived in both city's a an adult and probably like Baltimore better because the population is not so transient as it is in D.C. with the political jobs coming and going and it is easier to get around, etc. When the Browns moved I did not end my love affair with the Redskins - I don't know how I could even in the mid-1990s of 3-13, 5-11 and freaking Norv "team killer" Turner. Just as now I cannot turn my back on the dreadful Orioles for the equally dreadful Nationals and I don't know how anyone growing up a fan of a team could do. For those in Baltimore that were Skins fans and now hate the team - please explain.
I don't see this as a rivalry any more than when the Orioles play the Phillies in inter-league. It's just a quirk of the schedule. But, I would like to ask Ravens (and Vikings) fans how any grown man could walk around wearing purple.

Maybe its more of a rivalry from the Baltimore side? It doesn't really feel that way from the DC side.
Even that seems like kind of a stretch though. Baltimore has its own proud history as a football town obviously because of the original Colts. They've had a SB with the Ravens. I don't see why they would have any kind inferiority thing.

I don't care abou tplaying the Ravens. They're a relatlively new team and they're AFC. The only reason that we should be concerned IMO is b/c they've got a tough, physical 3-4 defense which we usually have problems against.

I think it was more of a rivalry when we played the Colts back in the days.....

This is not a rivalry at all. First, all the Redskins fans I have talked to have said why is this considered a rivalry? I still have no idea. It was made by the media and Ravens fans. Battle of the Beltway, is what the ravens fans call it and they dont even share the same beltway, showing the stupidity of their fans. Ravens fans root for us too lose all the time and I have no idea why. I cant stand ravens fans, ive met a total of one intelligent ravens fan in my entire life, the rest just talk garbage but cant talk real football.

Same for me as well. I think its where we are from (Dayton is in western Howard County). I just hate Ravens fans. They just have this incredibly arrogant perspective. I don't quite know how to explain it, but I have friends that support different teams, and I must say there is something different about Ravens fans, and not in a good way. Ravens fans are always comparing their team to the 'skins, always.
For example, a friend of mine who is a Ravens fan is in a facebook group called "25 Reasons why the Ravens are beter than the Redskins" or something like that. I am in a group simply called "Hail to the Redskins." My friends that are ravens fans will always compare stats, whatever, to the Redskins before the steelers, browns, bengals, whoever.
I think I could rant forever about why I hate the ravens and their fans, but here are a few brief points: Their name and mascot comes from an unsuccesful (during his life) poet and writer who died in a gutter in baltimore after an incredibly depressing life. Their stadium is purple, they wear purple. Baltimore is crap...what is there? The inner harbor? Some dirty water, an old boat, and a few lousy shops?
As a student at Maryland though, what upsets the most is how Ravens fans associate themselves, their team, and baltimore, with the Terps. College Park is literally just outside DC, and is a very Washingtonian school.

thats exactly my problem with them. The other day one of them was trying to convince me Mcgahee is better than Portis but didnt know why, and I just threw Portis' stats, blocking ability, and toughness in their face and they were done. SInce McGahee is always hurt thats all you have to say.
They also think Tony Sirigusa is a god, but real football fans know he was nothing special.

RIGHT MAN!!! I was going to say the same dag gone thing. They don't have diddly doo doo to do with our loop.
No way a rivalry at all and probably will never be. I support the Ravens when not playing us (obviously) because they're in MD and I need them to beat all other NFC teams.

It is funny how I've talked to people for over a year and never even knew they were a "football fan" and all of a sudden - this week those same people are talking crap about the Buzzards beating us, etc.!!!! Amazing how all of a sudden they are huge buzzard fans! These people make me sick. They are not worthy of "trying to talk football with me - let alone bash the Skins" UGH!!!!
Yes...I feel better now.

Any game against the Browns (by any name) is still just a game with the Browns.
I was disgusted by the cowardly manner the City of Baltimore was treated by Jim Irsay and the Colts. That they would then accept benefit from the identical treatment of another city pretty much took care of any sympathy I have ever felt for Baltimore.
The Baltimore Browns are just another team...

I think having more of a rivalry between the two teams would be good. Its obvious from the replies here that many of you don't like the city, why not focus that onto a more reasonable outcome like a football game?

It's not so much the city, but the fans.

Because there's nothing there to spark a rivalry. Just b/c they're close in physical proximity? Pointless. Battle of the Beltways is a marketing gimmick and that's about the extent of it.

You said it. This is no rivalry, just a game we NEED, and if the last few weeks are any indication, won't win. The rivalry thing is getting a bit overrated this season. Dallas comes to DC and beats us fairly easy, and the Giants made us look pathetic on our own field. Rivalries are supposed to be hard fought, bloody hated close games. That's not what I've been seeing lately.

Anybody from DC knows that those from Baltimore (I will refrain from calling them Baltimorons) suffer largely from a condition known as "District Envy". The Sports Junkies on DC radio talk about it all the time. Baltimore residents like to act as the two cities are competitors (business and cultural). but really there is no comparison between the two. They couldn't be closer as far as distant or farther away as far the make-up of the city. If you travel north of Columbia, MD it's like you've traveled 200 miles not 35 miles. Heck, they even have their own accent. I think of Baltimore and Philadelphia having the most in common and as more of a natural rivalry.
With that being said, there is absolutely no rivalry. I could care less, except we need the win. I work with a bunch of Ravens fans and they act like its the Super Bowl.

I was once a huge fan of the City of Baltimore... I was a Redskins fan first, a Colts fan second... I was both enraged and saddened by what the Colts ownership did to it... until they did the same thing to Cleveland that Indianapolis had done to them...
I miss the knowledgeable, blue collar fans of the Baltimore Colts. I can't imagine that they all died when the Colts did...
