Suisham

Does anybody know if Suisham has a leg injury? Seems odd all of the sudden for him to be struggling with FG attempts in the 40 yard range when I've seen him kick 50+ yarders before with seemingly no difficulty. Just curious what's going on.

No, he is terrible and always has been. I am not sure why so many people think the guy is a good kicker. Did you see one kickoff barely made the 20 yard line. Who here did not know he was going to miss that 40+ yarder?

Maybe he just has problems kicking in Seattle? Remeber that chip shot he missed in the playoffs last year?

Coming from a previous Kicker here and having a friend who kicked in College, things are not always as they seem in the kicking game. On the miss yesterday, the snap was off and went into the ground. The timing was off and that is why that kick was missed. The kick either last week or the week before, he was kicking into crazy swirling winds.
As for kickoffs, on strategy is to kick it short to say that 20 but you have to kick it super high so that it gives your team time to get down there to wrap up the guy around the 20 - which is what they did. I think he was tackled at the 21. The other thing that can happen is the guy runs backwards and you actually tackle him at say the 15, which almost happened if one of our guys can wrap up there.
I hope this helps even though its still not frustrating. But, a little insight from a kicker.

I am also very upset with the kicking this year. I can understand if the holding is poor, but if that is not the case, Suisham is absolutely overrated. I cannot understand why we can't get a decent kicker. We haven't had a good one in ages.

You've got to be kidding me right? He is on his 3rd different holder of the season. Let me guess you expect a kicker to be 100% right?
He has had a couple of shaky kicks the past few weeks, but besides that the guy is automatic...
There is no way you can be upset with 21-28, unless you have unreasonable expectations from your kicker.

Whatever your opinion of Suisham, something's definitely different the last couple weeks... for the most part I think he's been pretty solid... he always seems to be in the neighborhood (no shanks), and he's even been able to hit a couple crossbars and uprights... that's not easy to do...

I'd be more worried about the pathetic punting, as it seems we've gone from the frying pan into the fire this year.
Then I'd be worried about the inability to score TD's.

I was thinking that his leg must be tired or injured. This is two games in a row that Suisham has hit the cross bar on mid range kicks.
That was until I saw the the side view replay of the kick. That kick was plenty long and high enough until it got into the endzone and then you could see the wind knock it down. It just was knocked straight down.
His kick offs going to that endzone were very short, but his kicks to the other endzone were significantly longer.

I wouldn't be too concerned about our kicker, let's examine our punter who leaves much to be desired!

I don't even know who the punter is. When the Redskins get in the position where they have to punt I have already left the room in frustration.

Let me enlighten you, well a little
We have this guy called Placekicker who might be having an identity crisis

Anyway - he is not one of the better punters but he has not truly blown a punt ..... yet
I have a feeling that we will be seeing some kickers and punters at Redskins Park next year.
Suisham has not been as bad as some here have implied - he has not been as good lately but to imply that he is not a very good kicker is very harsh in my opinion. We are at a time where he is going to have to pick it up on his kickoffs and he is definetly going to need to get more comfortable about making everything inside the 40.

I've noticed it also. Although this year is worse then past. The only thing I can think is different form previous yrs is the holder. Didn't Gibbs use Collins or someone else. Gibbs usually prefered a QB in case the ball coming from center was a dud. Then the QB could try to pass it or for when he decided on any possible trick play. Zorn for what ever reason prefered a punter to hold the ball. I think it's time to switch back.

Didn't he work out all spring...he probably just has a tired leg.

Well the stats indicate otherwise. Of 31 qualified kickers, Suisham is 30th in field goal percentage.

He makes everything inside the 40, it's outside the 40 where it starts to get dicey. And the kickoff thing has already been explained.

I guess you didn't look close enough at the Stats:
* Of the 32 teams, we rank 29th in FG percentages at 75% (21 of 28)
* We rank 18th in the League in pts scored on FG's and extra points
* and finally, we have attempted 28 FG's (tied for 2nd most) with the fewest being 15.
The Giants have been lights out with 25 of 26 made (96.2%) for 109 points.
On kickoffs, we do really well covering our kicks. We rank 4th with opponents average field position as the 20.3. (Pitt, Buff & Jac. ahead)
So looking at the numbers, Suishy has not been bad at all. Not to mention there are things in the kicking game that are not factored like high kicks to give time for our guys to get down there as I've previously mentioned.
I'm not saying that there isn't room for improvement. I would love Suishy to be 100% and having every team have touchbacks every kick. Just saying he doesn't suck.
Hope this clears things up.

I still have a pretty good feeling about Suisham. We have stronger needs than to worry about him IMO. I think he'll come out of it.

Maybe he's got a tired leg from kicking that 100 yd FG in the pre-season video?

No, he is terrible and always has been. I am not sure why so many people think the guy is a good kicker. Did you see one kickoff barely made the 20 yard line. Who here did not know he was going to miss that 40+ yarder?
Yep....he sucks!
Can't even make a 42 yrd FG!

Suisham is garbage. 21 of 29 on field goals is not good at all. No other kicker in the NFL has missed more kicks than he has this season. We need to bring in some kickers for tryouts.

Not sticking up for him, but on that particular play, the high snap cost us. He's not good enough to adjust

*waits for the Swishy defense force to initialize.
Swishy is the most consistent and best kicker we will or have ever had. Love him and don't deny his greatness. That miss, the miss last week and the miss that would have greatly helped us against Dallas don't matter because...he's just the best ever and we should just be grateful.
