The Marcus Mason Crowd Can Stop Holding Out Hope

Redskins preseason favorite Marcus Mason has been signed by the New York Jets from the Ravens practice squad to fill the spot opened by the season-ending injury to RB Jesse Chatman. It’s possible that the Jets have had Mason on their radar since he carried the ball 9 times for 55 yards against them in the preseason game better known as Brett Favre’s Jets Debut — he’s highlighted in the NFL.com postgame Quick Take as “extremely impressive” — but either way, he’s off the board.

Everyone who has been convinced that the Redskins were going to realize that releasing Mason was a horrible preseason mistake (and act on that realization by cutting Shaun Alexander and re-signing Mason) can finally let go of the dream. That said, he was a local product (Georgetown Prep!) and seemed like a good guy; hopefully he’ll find some success in New York.

I admit, I really liked Mason and hated to see him go. Even though we all knew the Skins were extremely deep at RB, for some reason, I had hoped there would've been a way for him to make the team.

As far as I'm concerned, he will be missed. Good luck with the Jets.

This is a great opportunity for him and exactly what he was looking for. I wish him the best as he goes to NY.

But. . .we should also keep in mind that he could be looking for work again at this time next year. ;)

This is great news! We finally signed him, and he is playing for our farm club in NY. When he's ready, we can promote him to the big leagues.

Maybe he can help knock down some of Favre's potential interceptions....
