How do you miss all offseason with a knee, then finally get on the field Week 2 for only one play and in that one play hurt your ankle so bad you miss at least two weeks of football? That is injury prone to the extreme, it is frustrating because we could really use him this week.

He is one of the players that we sign/draft over the last few years that are never more than a good story.

Very disappointing thus far...but too early to give up on.

I typically don't believe in crap like this but with the reports of Zorn putting the reporters off the practice field this week and having special plays for Dallas... I'm hoping that these reports of Kelly being injured are misleading.

So Chris you think Kelly might play?

Keep him.

Great talent, big, fast, holds the ball. Seems to be getting his play up to NFL level.

Keep him.

I agree, I mean it is only 3 weeks into his first season. Let's talk about this after the season starts next year. True-he has been injured since he has been here but if he ends up playing even 2-3 years healthy, no one will remember this.

He does need to get healthy soon though and be in the lineup by the next home game.

That's just the optimistic side of me that I rarely let out.

How do you cut AND trade the same person at the same time?

I still think keep. I think he will heal up soon enough and contribute, sure we can use him now but we are holding our own with the re-emergence of Tana in the passing game. I say we ride his arse hard for being hurt and make him wanna prove himself worthy of wearing B&G, no free rides here. We gave BLoyd all the chances, why not extend the same to this rook.

He hasn't barely even played, hasn't made an impact, hasn't been healthy for more than 2 days at a time, hasn't done jack.... Yeah, yea, yeah I know.

But I'm freaking excited to see this kid play and hope that he's able to get on the field this week. Zorn reported that he made it through practice and without any setbacks I'm sure he'll see the field on Sunday.

It's interesting listen to Zorn get so excited to see this kid get on the field but doens't show the same excitement for Thomas. I don't believe that Zorn dislikes Thomas as much as I think Zorn knows what Kelly can do. He's seen him in practice and can't wait to show his new toy.

He's going to be a match up nightmare in that slot position. Very few NB's are big enough to chuck a large WR at the line.

WRs rarely make an impact their rookie season. So what if he doesn't help the team much, if at all this year, because when you draft a WR you are looking for a player who can contribute in 3 years. I know someone is likely to bring up Moss, Colston, or Boldin in their rookie years, but for every guy like that, there are 15 good WRs who need a couple years to adjust to the NFL and then make a huge impact. Even a guy as talented as Calvin Johnson needed a full year to look like the player he was drafted to be. Give Kelly some time!

Two rookies are currently in the top 10 in receiving in the NFL. Now more than ever rookie receivers are ready to contribute from day 1 as more and more college teams run pro style offenses. As for your claim that teams draft receivers looking for a player that can contribute in three years, that's just ridiculous. Guys like Thomas and Kelly only sign four year contracts. You don't spend two second round picks on guys that you hope can contribute in three years.

Two rookies doesn't disprove the general rule though, historically -- and even in recent history -- receivers just don't do a great deal in their first season.

AND you dont give rookies 6 or 7 year deals.

But what you guys who are bashing Thomas and Kelly need to understand is, Zorn said going into the season that they will not be a big part of the offense to start out. They wont, and guess what? They arent. And you all are like, they need to contribute more!! and i ask you why? we're 3-1, Moss is 2nd in the league in yards and receptions and 3 TDs. and ARE has almost 200 yards and a TD, plus Cooley is always good and Thrash is still consistant.. Right now i think we have the luxery to give these guys time to heal and learn the system. We arent in dire need for them right away.

To early to say they are busts. Heck it is only the fifth game coming up. Really early if you ask most. I want to see them get some more reps. I am sure it will happen in due time.

According to Zorn, Kelly isn't playing on Sunday.

"He's not going to participate," he said. "He's getting better, but I'm going to deactivate him, I can tell you that right now.

Ah geez its the fifth game and some are already grilling the rookies?

Patience is a virtue. We have waited so long to see a winning team, I am sure we can wait until the rookies mature. Right now we have the luxury of having a functional Qb who is playing the best football of his life. If not for that I would be grilling the rookies as well. Right now the offense is balanced and Portis is much more effective. Teams are no longer stacking the box , Moss is getting more oppurtunities, Cooley is converting third downs , life is good. It can get better but I am going to be patient. By the tenth game I would like to see Thomas in at least 75 percent of the plays. If Kelly is healthy then rotate him in as well.

As long as we are getting production from our veteran receivers, I have no problem with Zorn making these rookies earn their stripes in practice first.

It's the way it should be, imo. Other teams, like Philly, that are incorporating their rookies (Jackson) early on, are basically being forced to use them due to injuries. We've all seen the mistakes made by Jackson to date.

I have no doubt that Thomas, Davis and Kelly will eventually be a big part of the game plan, but making them earn their stripes, or helmet decals, as Zorn previously said, is not a bad way to go about it. Our entire offense will benefit from that in the near future.

yeah i was saying that earlier. Moss is 2nd in the league in yards and receptions and has 3 TDs. ARE has close to 200 yards and a TD. Are receiver are doing more than fine. we can afford to ease the rookies along and give em limited playing time. let em learn the system and get comfortable before they start playing a big role..
