Wayne Brady's R&B album. No hint of him taking it lightly. He does have a very good voice and I was wondering when he would focus on music. I guess hosting "Don't Forget the Lyrics" motivated him to get a start on it.

I thought it was the best overall new album to come out this month and that's saying a lot because Metallica, Nelly, and Buckcherry came out with new albums and I love all three. Maybe the better way to put it would be to say I was more surprised/impressed.

I would like to disagree with you on this is the best overall new album for this year. Look around at articles all over the internet and you will see what is the best overall new album. That would be Metallica my friend. Metallica has been through so much as a band and for them to release an album like this in their mid 40's is outstanding. They have been ripped on for many years and people have done nothing but be critical of them but they continue to go out and make GREAT music. Metallica Baby.

Like I said, I love Metallica. But I guess I'm just so used to listenting to hits like Enter Sandman, Wherever I May Roam, Frantic, St. Anger, I Disappear, etc. that I feel that this album is a bit bland ONLY compared to their old stuff. They, as a band, are not bland at all but a lot of their stuff sounds the same and nothing sticks out as much.

Just like Nelly's new album. One of my favorite rappers. But I was dissapointed. Nothing that stood out that much to me like his older stuff did.

Here's the thing. Wayne Brady: VERY talented singer. Excellent surprise! Fabulous R&B. It will never get old. I think one or two of these tracks will live forever.

Same, I am not a Nelly fan but there is some rap I really enjoy. 'All Eyez On Me' by TuPac is a great, great album.

Are you serious?? Metallicas new album is absolutely terrible, Lars kills it by "over-drumming" every song. Whats with all the repetitive snair?? Lose the terribly bad drums and its a decent album, until then I can't even get through it.

I hate a ton of commercial rap but they said rap was a fad back in the 80's...

Sorry - that makes me laugh. Did you just call Sandman old stuff? I consider EVERY song you listed a NEW song - to me, old Metallica is Creeping Death, Fade To Black, Welcome Home Sanatarium, The Four Horsemen, Damage Incorporated, Motorbreath, The Call of Ktulu...

A little perspective... my first Metallica concert was in the spring of '86 in Detroit... it was a big trek for a bunch of Canadian teenagers to get to Joe Louis stadium... we had no idea how special what we were about to experience was... the concert was ridiculous... they did Master of Puppets, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Ride the Lightning, and Welcome Home (Sanitarium), back-to-back-to-back-to-back. They closed with a version of Damage Incorporated that I still think of every time I hear the song.

Seriously, it honestly changed my musical tastes forever.

I don't remember how long after it was, but it seemed like it was no time at all - Cliff died in the accident, and the band changed forever.

Jason Newstead came in for And Justice For All, and for me, that's STILL the band's 'break' between 'old' and 'new.' That was the beginning of Metallica II.

When Newstead left and Trujillo came in - that would be Metallica III.


Sorry for the digression, but I thought perhaps a little Metallica history was in order here...

The new album's not bad, and I'll just add that when Metallica played here in London last year, they rocked the house with many 'Metallica I' songs. They aren't the same without Burton, but Trujillo did a great job and the show was fantastic.

Master of Puppets is my favorite Metallica album, with Sanitarium my favorite Matallica song.

Can some give me about 5 Metallica songs to get off of iTunes? I've never listened to them.

Any of the ones Boss mentions are good for older Metallica. For newer, I personally liked all of And Justice For All, particularly One for the drum part (as a drummer, I like "over-drumming"). I also dig 'The Unforgiven', 'Where ever you may roam" and the new song that just came out. I definitely listen to more old than new, however.

I would suggest just going out and buying the full CDs actually:

Ride The Lightning
Master of Puppets
Kill 'Em All

But for songs... wow, cutting it down to five is just so tough...

Fade To Black is an excellent song to play someone new to Metallica. Ballad-like but gives you a taste of the heavy.

Then maybe Welcome Home Sanitarium, as another slower song that builds, but then you're ready for just about anything... I'd go to the Four Horsemen after that... then you'll have had one from each album listed above...

Then you could venture into Metallica II and grab either One or Blackened off of And Justice For All

Then Unforgiven off of the Black Album and you'll have at least been through the first two Metallicas... sort of...

By no means is that my favorite five Metallica tunes, but more of a 'staggered segue'.

I personally think that it is virtually impossible for ANYBODY to make it through For Whom The Bell Tolls without 'banging your head' at least once.

I'm going to look these up on iTunes and dip my toes in the water. lol

Since ya'll are talking music, I don't listen to too much hard rock but I had to get a single by SlipKnot called "Psycho Social".. that song is awesome.. definitely check it out

That's definitely in my collection, Joe. I've got everything from Jay-Z and Nelly to Anthrax and Metallica, to Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett and everything in between.

I'm totally with you here on Metallica. Ride the Lightning is one of my favorite albums of all time...and Master of Puppets is right there with it. While Justice wasn't anywhere as good as those two, it was still palatable...but then Black (or whatever it's called) was just such a disgusting drop-off from the previous 4 albums. Metallica doing love songs? Really?

See I love old school Metallica, I am in complete agreement there but I just don't see 'the Black Album' as a severe drop. It's not as good as their old stuff, certainly, but it was a decent album. I would even go so far as to say 'Loaded' and 'Re-Load' were OK. 'St. Anger' was utter garbage.

Metallica did some decent stuff in the early '90s. (note word "decent"). "Enter Sandman", and "Nothing Else Matters" were good...

since then? Yeah, pretty much.
