Yahoo Sports' Michael Silver and WEEI in Boston both report that Tom Brady will miss the rest of the season due to a torn ACL.
"It’s bad," a Patriots team source said. "We’re going to have to play without him." Other sources told Silver that Brady's injury could include more ligament and cartilage damage. Silver is one of the best NFL reporters alive, and you have to trust him here. Fantasy owners should not make a move with Brady until it's confirmed elsewhere though. Obviously, it's devastating news for the entire Patriots offense. Sep. 7 - 7:15 pm et

I don't wish any harm on anyone, but this is as close to happy as I will get to a player injury....

Anyone else see Peter King nearly brought to tears on NBC this evening at the thought of Brady missing the entire season?

Oh, Boo Hoo Peter.

The Patriots are also notorious for misreporting injuries, so until there are several confirmed sources, I'd take this with a grain or two of salt.
Rumor has it Chris Simms is being flown in to Foxborough, though ...

I cannot, for the life of me, understand why QB's (in particular) don't wear protective braces on (at least) their front knee. That is generally the one that gets rolled up. It would offer a lot of protection against lateral forces and against hyperextension. Would have possibly prevented (or minimized) this injury... would have done the same with Carson Palmer a couple of years ago.

I agree. Linemen could use them too. They can make them light enough these days, but I guess most players think it slows them down too much.

Yup, I also liked being told how "everyone" would be saddened by this injury ... let's see ... nope, not so much. I like watching Brady play, he's a first-ballot HOFer but I sure as hell am not sad or upset that the Pats have to deal with adversity.

And so begins the downfall of the patriot empire.

I hope they go 19-0 now, and then we can all wonder if Tom Brady is that good, or if he's that good because he is on an outstanding team.

You know whats amazing is that he got hurt in a regular season game. Not Preseason. I'm so tired of hearing people complain about the preseason. Tom Brady got hurt the first game of the regular season. As far as how long he will be out, I will wait until tomorrow to find out if this article is true.

That would be an interesting debate, but I don't think I could deal with another "run at perfection." I'm fine with them losing a few games this year...

brady was'nt the only reason the pats won 18 in a row last year, randy moss, the o line, and belichik are still there,so don't count them out as dead yet.the 72 dolphins won 10 or 11 straight wothout bob griese, and their qb earl morall was around 40 at the time.

I think they can still make the playoffs, but losing Brady is terrible for them.
I wonder if they'll go out and sign a quarterback like Culpepper, but it looks like they're going to stick with Cassel.

They are bringing in Chris Simms for a tryout.

Boo hoo, too bad, so sad. The best player on my team was murdered last year.

And what, exactly, does that have ot do with Tom Brady and the Patriots?

The guy I was matched up against in FF this week had Brady as his starter.
I was happy to hear Brady got knocked out for the game, but my opponent has got to be killing himself about what to do now.
As far as the Patsies go...couldn't happen to a nicer team.

I had meant it to be a comment on the media coverage. I guess I had to be more specific to adhere to the forum rules. My apologies.
OK, how about this:
Boo hoo, too bad, so sad. The best player on my team was murdered last year, and the media coverage of that event, at least in my non-DC market, paled in comparison to a torn ACL and one season on the bench.
I forgot that most people here are in the DC area. If you lived elsewhere you might have known what I was insinuating. Or maybe not. I'll try not to be so vague next time. Again, sorry.
