Chicago is reportedly willing to dish out BIG $$$ to get Jevon Kearse even if it means getting into a bidding war with Dan Snyder according to Rumor Central. Sure, we could outbid them, but I hope it's within reason!

Do you think he would really go to Chicago before playing for Joe Gibbs & being re-united with Gregg Williams? I don't think Chicago will be able to out bid us either.

I think he would rather play with us yes, but he's gotta go where the $$ is. I hope Da Bears don't run the price up TOO much is all I'm saying

We will see. I think he can be good. Let's just hope he is healthy.

i think it's safe to say that the bears haven't made commitment to winning in a long time and just hearing those rumors make me think that they are JUST rumors...i mean who have they gone after in the past ten years, KORDELL STEWART??

espn says that the bears are $14.4 mil under the cap as of march 1.

Dont be suprised if the Bears try to run after the high end DE and DT in free agency. Lovie Smith is a defense oriented coach.

Yeah, I don't think we should overly pay this guy...Don't get me wrong, he is worth some good dough, but hopefully we don't over do it in some bidding war..in any case, Kearse is about to be a rich man. haha

a good pass rusher is vital. it means so much to have a guy on the oppsoing qb's mind. it's one position that can completely determine the outcome of any game. i don't care if kearse has been injured, or is expensive, i'd take the risk.

risk or reward :hmm:
i say both too. we need the push up the middle as well.

Let the bears have Jevon. If we sign him it will just kill our cap down the road. He is way too injury prone. There are more fiscally responsible free agents. If he was willing to be signed for a reasonable amount of cash, I would say go ahead. I just see this guy going after the BIG PAY DAY!!

At what price would you sign him?? If hind sight let you see in the future and in two years we had to release Samuels and say Jansen Coles etc, would Jevon be worth it???

he wants to be paid like champ and the skins say no and i will say no.it,s i want to play for the team not the money.but again if it,s going to be too much to handle then i will say no.

yes. we wouldn't have to release that many guys. i think a true pass rusher is one of the most important positions in the game, second to QB. but, thats just my opinion. its going to cost, if you get a good one. but your secondary dosen't have to be top notch when the qb only has three seconds to throw. not having to sign the best corners and safteys on the market will save enough to buy that rush My 2 cents

Going too high is my biggest concern (always seems to be, doesn't it?).

Getting what they want without regard to cost has happened before.

We could take the money we are planning to use for Kearse and probably sign Grant Wistrom, Marcellus Wiley, Daryl Gardner and that Titans defensive tackle. I would personally rather start four good defensive lineman than one amazing end and three other mediocre lineman...

I say let the Freak go...Do not overpay for this guy. I agree with they guy that says four solid d-lineman over one great and three mediocre. I'm sure we could find a solid guy that would cost one-third of what Kearse wants to get. I just hope Synder can keep his checkbook in his pocket.

Don't forget, even if the NE trade rumor is just that - we could trade back a few spots and get Udeze... AND get another pick

From Another Site:

Despite being nearly $16 million under the 2004 salary cap, our Chitown mole says that the Bears will not be in the market for defensive end Jevon Kearse.

We're told that the Bears aren't willing to invest in Kearse the kind of up-front money he's looking for. Published reports echo our story from Monday regarding a potential $20 million bonus for Kearse, but a league source has told us that Kearse could be aiming even higher.

And that number's too big for G.M. Jerry Angelo -- who'll instead remain in the weeds while a potential free-agent bargain at defensive end or defensive tackle emerges, most likely after the initial signing frenzy.

I saw that Luther Ellis was released - might be interesting to have him as depth if we could get him cheap enough... he is a monster run stuffer who has been able to get to QBs in the past and is only 30.

Fine. Let me have Robaire instead. Let me have Wistrom. Don't Kearse me out for not wanting him. It's not disrespect or anything. I'm sure he's All-World at DE. I just want healthy guys there this year. Young and healthy, if I can get it.
