ESPN and its lack of objectivity

Now, I've been beating this dead horse for years but I am firmly convinced the people at ESPN do not like the Redskins one bit. I'm going to start compiling my case against them with this:
http://sports.espn.go.com/chat/sportsnation/story?page=portis-baileyfeedback
Note how even the comments which are ostensibly in support of the Redskins manage to rip the Redskins. Someone at ESPN had to filter through all the messages they received about this trade and they made a concious decision to post those.

those bronco fans are kidding themselves...you can't tell me they aren't dissapointed that they just traded maybe the most talented young running back in the game for a corner back. i betcha they'll be crying ](*,) like little b*tchz when portis goes over 1,500 yards again, 15+ tds and champ has 2 int year and gets burned 4 + times for td's. hell, they'll probably going to be trying to fire their "genius" coach by then.

Fios;
I think you're right on with this. This is what we in Australia call "the tall poppy syndrome" - this is the position that people like to think they can bring us down to! They are very jealous of our franchise and the fan support that is THE WASHINGTON REDSKINS!

I was reading a story by Pete Prisco on SPortsline.com about impending free agency, and he kept sliding in cheap shots about Dan Snyder and how no one would overpay certain players unless Dan Snyder decides to play GM again. It's ridiculous how much the media hates Danny boy.

It is very possible that Champ Bailey is going to be fantastic next year in Denver but I don't see how anyone can deny that Clinton Portis is going to have a hell of a year here. What I think is so interesting about the media's take on this trade is that no one has simply defended the Redskins by saying that Daniel Snyder did not want to pay a cornerback so much money that he would not be able to fill glaring holes on the rest of the team. There is no way we could have afforded Champ's new contract with Broncos and put together a decent defensive line. The irony of the situation is that we in fact saved money on the deal and picked up probably the best back in football.
If ESPN wants to take cheap shots at the Skins then thats fine, but their writers are only hurting their credibility. I truly believe that an impressive season, (i.e 10-6, 9-7) this year will quiet many of our critics. It is just hard not to have faith in Joe Gibbs.

I live in Colorado and every Bronco's fan I know is ready to hurl themselves off a cliff, this is a great trade for Washington!

another glaring example of the haters at espn...just check out the messages they let threw about the skin's on mort's chat:
http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=4897#bottom

those fools are drinking some major haterade -drinking :!:

of course my question didn't make the cut: do you think the broncos overpaid for champ?

I have thrown this question at 'em three times:

"Do you think with the Skins trading their 2nd and 3rd round picks away there is any life to the rumor of NE trading their two first rounders to get Jones or Jackson at the 5th pick? If so, who do the Skins pick?"

There's no real "hater" attitude on that chat -- so far.

I, too, have major concerns about how they throw out so much money to so many people.

They've got to get to a point where they only need 2 or 3 significant additions and not the 8, 9 or 10 they've been doing lately.

if you want mort to read your question you need to start it by saying "i really hate the redskins and d. synder"...he'll definitely put in bold letters on website then. FESPN

Mort just said and I quote:

Jeff D, Alexandria, VA: What's the latest word on Danny-boy's jetliner, Redskins One??? Seems like he may lose out on Kearse (and Kleinsasser never made it to midnight)... Could it be that Snyder won't be able to lure some of the FA big wigs to Ashburn Park???

Chris Mortensen: (1:23 PM ET ) I was always told that they would not go ga-ga for Kearse. They wanted Kleinsasser.

I find that interesting. I wasn't sure if I believed the Kearse thought too much since he was a little injury prone, but I ran with it anyway - seems like the Skins are after someone else which is fine by me :)

I wondered aloud on here what surprises we would have come the latter half of this week...

Matt (Philadelphia): Any chance of the Eagles trading up for either L.Fitzgerald or M. Williams, or any serious interest in T.O.?

Chris Mortensen: (12:46 PM ET ) I went into this day believing the Eagles will work out a trade for T.O. within the next day or two.

here freak, i'll make it easier for you to notice them by pasting the quotes:

Kevin, RI: Mort, how can the Redskins afford all these big time deals? Did the Redskins get a salary cap extension nod? It takes more than a handful of great guys to win a game, you need a whole team.

Steve, Bethesda, MD: Mort - Like many people in Washington, I can't understand why the Redskins would trade Bailey and a number two for Portis. A straight up trade, at best, seems reasonable since premier cornerbacks are almost impossible to find. What is the real story here?

Jeff D, Alexandria, VA: What's the latest word on Danny-boy's jetliner, Redskins One??? Seems like he may lose out on Kearse (and Kleinsasser never made it to midnight)... Could it be that Snyder won't be able to lure some of the FA big wigs to Ashburn Park???

i hope that helps, bud

I still don't see them as hater quotes - the one from Alexandria is probably a skeptical fan as is the one from Bethesda...

Ah well... just my opinion

pleaze, let's not split hairs on what a "hater quote" is...i'm just saying the quotes are slanted to the perspective espn has taken on the skin's in general

To me, and I don't consider stating my opinion splitting hairs, I suggest that something that haters write tends more towards the totally obnoxious... something along the lines of:

"I think that the Danny is gonna shoot his wad and pull in a bunch of worthless names and make his team hurt real bad and put them in salary cap hell cause Gibbs is an old man who can't control the jerk"

The first quote seemed to be an honest question, the second was one that was voiced on here VERY strongly, and the third was more a statement of fact that we lost Kleinsasser and that we may be behind in the Kearse race - we all call the jet Redskins One on here... nothing hating about that :)

you're right, i'm wrong " :moon: " maybe that's a hater quote

I'm totally fine with all three of those -- legitimate concerns

I really think the best pickles are the kosher dills, myself. I had a blue hat in third grade, but I left it on the bus one time, and I never saw it again. I don't know... CAN you make a airplane from macaroni and Elmer's glue ?
They are really good pickles, though.
